They do it because sometimes they can actually sell it at this price. Sometimes markets dries up and someone might need this item now and don't care for the price.

I did it with light leather at some point. I listed some stacks at 130% of the normal rate with my other stacks at 100%. I got some of the 130% sold due to the low supply one evening.

Also it messes up the numbers in Auctioneer.

They do it because they're trying to skew the price that addons like Auctioneer calculate because it's based on averages. Many people blindly buy or sell at Auctioneer recommended prices, so they put in a number of auctions for commodities at drastically inflated prices to skew the average higher, hoping to sell their non-insane listings at a higher price as a result.

You'll also see people putting up stacks of hunter ammo for the standard price but only 1/10 of a max stack, taking advantage of people that buy without paying too much attention.

Lots of shady behavior on the AH overall.

If you want free money you can also camp a toon at Halaa in Garadar. Every 30 mins the weapon vendor restocks 3 each of [item=30568]The Sharp Cookie[/item] and [item=30570]Arkadian Claymore[/item] Total purchase price 3 x 11g = 33g.

    Total profit per 30 mins is: 3 x (0,75 x 1,5 x Greater Planar Essence price + 0,22 x 3,5 x Arcane Dust price + 0,03 x 1 x Large Prismatic Shard price) - 33.

    With prices GPE = 25g, AD = 5g and LPS = 10g, total profit is 161g.

If you allready know your way around the AH and you want to speed things up A LOT., then the Quick Auction addon is incredible. It can automate your entire posting and auction canceling once you set things up right. So if you allready try to make money with certain markets i'd definitely suggest you try it out. (aslong as you're not on grim batol! )

Everywhere i read people use both, i'm far from an auctioneer pro, so i'm not exactly sure what QA offers what auctioneer doesn't. I do know that once i set up prices for items i can just click "post" and QA does:
    1. posts an item on a fallback price if there are no other items of the items i want to post.
    2. if there is an item allready on the AH it undercuts that item with a set amount of gold/silver/copper.
    3. It doesn't post an item if there is an item allready on the AH, which is posted under a set threshold price.
    4. you can set how many auctions from an item you want max on the AH, the size of stacks, duration.

And it does all that with 1 click on a button, once you set those options for the items you want to post.

So aslong as you make specifc profiles for groups you can post glyphs combined with craftables epics on a single click. Where both use about the opposite settings. (cheap & bulk vs expensive & rare)

i'm starting off in the glyph market, let's see how it goes. It does look promising though.
Especially with Quick actioneer i can automate a lot so i takes only a couple of minutes to cancel & repost.

I believe it is Appraiser in auctioneer, for automating the auction listing.
I don't think there is anything for automating the cancellation of auctions.

You can set, so you won't have more then "x" of a given item listed at once.
You can set the bid price to be a percentage of the buyout.
And then set the buyout to be a fixed amount, or based on currently listed prices.
Set how far (percentage) below you should undercut a competitor.
And the most you'll undercut below market price.

Not sure if one has a better interface, or is easier to use.
It sounds like they both offer very similar features.
I found a gold making guide, which was actually videos, which was basically play the auction house.
And it had a couple of hours on tweaks and settings for auctioneer to make the most gold.

These days, I tend to just do dailies, until I'm bored with them.
I have three teams that can run them in a given day.
My route is 1150g in about an hour, so that's decent coin.
But dailies are pretty boring too, x1 or x3.

I wouldn't be suprised if Appraiser can do the same, i went with QA since that seems the most user friendly for massposting glyphs.

With Quick auctions you can press a big red "cancel" button at which it will scan the AH for your glyphs who got undercut. Once it scanned them all you get a pop up with a "start" button and QA cancels all auctions that got undercut without any second action from you required.
