"We mentioned that we wanted talent choices to feel more flavorful and fun, yet more meaningful at the same time."

"We’d rather have a simpler design with a lot of depth, than a complicated but shallow design."

"We’ll still have room for extra flavorful talents and room for player customization, but we can trim a great deal of fat from each tree. The idea isn’t to give players fewer choices, but to make those choices feel more meaningful. Your rotations won’t change and you won’t lose any cool talents. What will change are all of the filler talents you had to pick up to get to the next fun talent, as well as most talents which required 5 of your hard-earned points."

This for me, does absolutely not match with the new trees. That's what makes it just that extra annoying.

What does this have to do with what I said? I stated my personal opinion about how *I* wish the trees were...

From a design standpoint, the 31 point requirement prevents any of the hybrid specs that developed and caused unintended playstyles that required talent removal/redesign. Anyone remember dual wielding elemental shaman with Mental Quickness before Blizzard patched and moved Mental Quickness deep in the enhance tree?

That's what I'm referring to. I can conceed there's about 20 points in the elemental tree I would consider "mandatory" and 5 in the enhancement tree - I guess the remaining 11 are supposed to feel "flavorful." Some are, but most are just meh.

Was just confused at how the two tied together.

Though I do agree, wholeheartedly, that there aren't many optional talents. Though, trying to plan my spec for lvl 85 and I find that I'm agonizing about where to put about 7 points, but in the grand scheme - 7 pts out of 36 isn't much.
