    I reinstall windows every 6 months.... always better to have a clean install, windows just craps all over itself and gets broke.

    Technically you can keep an install of Windows through pretty much anything. Practically, if you change the motherboard chipset, you should do a clean install, and if you don't have the technical expertise to make the judgment for yourself then you should do a clean install. And upgrade installs of Windows suck, to varying degrees depending on the versions involved.
