Rarity of Golden Sansam and Arthas Tears are RIDICULOUS

Seriously... this is ridiculous. Between 5 of us we only have 20 stacks of sansam and one of arthas tears... /sigh Any suggestions?

Over 2/3 of the way there. Plan is tomorrow to do 8 hours of heroics, and 10 hours on tuesday. Finish gearing out my shaman and get about 15k gold or so to spend on herbs/other mats like frost lotus etc.

Pretty sure golden sansam, blindweed and mountain silversage are pre-outland herbs that just happen to also spawn in outland.
I think you'd have more luck finding them in azeroth.

Arthas' tears always seemed so useless compared to the other herbs, always had so many of it and nothing useful to make from them. But good for leveling for sure. There are certain criteria for their spawn locations that would help you find them.

I farmed 2 stacks of arthas tears in one WPL run.. Also got a lot of dreamfoil and plaguebloom there. Mountain silversage and golden sansam took me ages to get though :(

The amount of spawn points probably doesn't match with the frequency they spawn if you compare outland to Azeroth. That might be the problem. I'd try Azeroth indeed.

Make adepts or onslot exlier from 300-315 ....

Then exiler of mastery at 315-320

then exler of dracionian wisdom to 335 or mad alchments potion

I love you sam. No homo! But that still only cuts out the amount necessary for 300+. You need 50 per char for 275-300... i mean there are other options but still.

The options for this area would be...

45 stacks of plaguebloom & 45 stacks of icecap + 30 stacks of golden sansam + 15 stacks of mountain silversage
75 stacks of golden sansam + 37.5 stacks of mountain silversage
75 stacks of plague bloom + 37.5 stacks of mountain silversage
There are also the stoneoil potion things but that requires like 2 stacks per char... so thats 60 stacks of that. That would be just as tedious as farming the sansam. I don't know how many fishing attempts you can get per hour but...i assume it is a max of 3 per minuet. So around 180 casts. If you were to get one every time you would not even get 1 stack per hour.


Edit: i already have X amount of sansam, so i'm going with the 30 stacks of fish option. I just bought 10 stacks on the AH and am starting to level fishing. Faster than trying to get the herbs.

Very much similar to what i did. Getting Alch maxed out quicker....but using more expensive mats to get there actually worked out better than waiting for the cheaper mats on the Ah or grinding for them imo.

Golden sansam is 100g per stack on my server, or more. And there really is never any up. So regardless of the price i would have to farm almost all of it

i follow this path 275-300:

-275 to 280 -> 5x Superior mana potion (10x Sungrass - 10x Blindweed)
or (good option for me)
-275 to 280 -> same 280-285 - elixir of the sages

-280 to 285 -> 5x Elixir of the Sages (5xDreamfoil - 10xPlaguebloom), it s orange, turns yellow at 285
-285 to 290 -> 5x Elixir of brute force (10xplaguebloom -10x gromsblood), it s orange till 290
-290 to 300 -> 10x Greater Fire/frost/nature protection potion (10x dreamfoil -10x elemental fire/water/earth), it s orange till 305 or 310, not sure when turns yellow, but sure over 300.

i need (using only elixir of sages, avaible at 270, if remember right, for 275-285) 20 dreamfoil - 10 gromsblood - 30 plaguebloom and 10 elemental.
i buy greater prot recipes 10/20g max in ah, and 10x elemental fire/water/earth 10/20g for all in ah.


for arthas tears: i go in WPL, Andorhal, point west then north then west then Andorhal, and wait some time for respawn (15/20 min).
fast tour, Arthas tears really common there, meantime can collect some stacks of plaguebloom and (few) dreamfoil

Badges = gems + de + trash etc

I sell gems for 100g per (ametrine/dread) and i can get upwards to 10 per hour (3 heroic minimum)
thats 1000g
200g from just the LFG tool
3x frozen orb on my server = 150
about 100g or so in enchanting mats
this doesn't include trash gold etc

So i can make about 1500 an hour or so, still undergeared. If i were like niley (he does 4 heroics per hour according to him) i would get more mats etc. My best hour was 3x AN in a row (it takes me just over 6 minuets for this instance at the time), nexus, and Gundrak. At the time i wasn't killing anubarak in AN though because i was being dumb and using fire elementals and they disrupted my view of the ground too often. So it was 6+7+7 badges... so 20 total. If i had been able to do anub it would have been another 9. I now can do ALL of an in under 12 mins or so. I still had 6 minuets left when i did it earlier.

On my server, the bottlenecks seem to be...

Stranglekelp, Sungrass and Netherbloom.
With a few other herbs being rather expensive, but plentiful.

I'm basically doing one toon at a time.
Financing the alchemy with a combination of dailies and gems from the other toons.
I have a list of how many of each herb I need.
And then mail left over herbs, from the last alchemist to the next alchemist.
And track how many of each were mailed.

Then, any that I'm short on, I buy if available, even if the price sucks.
But also check the AH daily for every herb I use, and buy anything that is relatively cheap.
I've got 8 of my desired 30 alchemists, so don't really care that I currently have 401 Felweed and only use 40 per toon; it was cheap so I bought a lot.

I've dropped one of the teams from doing dailies.
So am now averaging around 1.25 to 1.50 circuits of my daily route per day, between two teams.
And am making 900-1000 a day from gems so far.

Kind of a slow pace, as I dropped the dailies as much as possible.

Check the AH as often as you can.
And buy in bulk as much as you can, that is a good price.

I have 4 people herbing for me nearly 8 hours a day. Thats why in about 3 days i went from having almost nothing to having over 20k herbs =P

Do as many arcanite transmutes as possible. Arcane crystals are going for under gold each on my server, thorium bars are also cheap. I get a bunch of points out of this.

Dreamfoil is cheap enough that I use the dreamfoilx3, silversagex1 recipe for several points.

I got the rest in 1 week. Tomorrow i'm putting 16 hours into farming for the money to get the frost lotus, eternals, and saronite bars.

What are you going to do if Blizz decide to remove the cooldown from the epic gem transmute. This is not an incredible stretch given the latest PTR notes.

The only alchemy cooldown to EVER be removed was the one from x-mute titanium. The rest of the cooldowns are intact down th x-mute mithril/truesilver.

Have you started collecting the mats for the Transmute Mastery?

Swamp of Sorrows, and then roll into burning stepes is a good idea for herbs to get you up to 300.

just an observation, but with that many epic jewel transmutes per day you will likely find you singlehandedly drive down the price of epic gems, especially as there are so many sources of them.

Dont get me wrong they are good money makers, but still...

I see the transmute cooldown being removed for the trades where the materials are used to craft gear.
The logic seems to be, you can grind heroics over a weekend, and gear a toon out.
But you cannot get similar level gear from crafting your own stuff in the same time.

I honestly don't think they'll remove the cooldown on the epic gems.
But even if they do, we're towards the tail end of the WotLK expansion.
We'll have several toons at 450 skill levels, which is a short hop to the 525 skill cap (assuming +75 skill cap, in Cataclysm).
I'd expect there to be a cooldown on the Cataclysm cloth, metal and gems for the first 80% of that expansion.
So even if we're out of luck in this expansion (which remains to be seen), it is preparation for the next expansion which will be out relatively soon.



I was talking with my competition for gem sales.
There are two of them, but the one who agreed to not undercut me if I didn't undercut him, when either of us was the lowest price seller...

He's very interested in bulk purchases of uncut gems.
He seems to think the market can handle 30 additional transmutes daily, long term.
On my server, cutting a gem adds 30-40g to its sale price.
Selling in bulk, at 10-20g below market price, for non-Cardinal Rubies.... gets him a 50g profit per gem and makes me 100g profit per gem.
Cardinal Rubies are funny, in that the mats cost the most.. so this is the least profitable transmute, and then while the final cut sells better then any other gem, the profit on the cut (over the uncut epic gem) is also the lowest.
It also takes me off of the market, and I'm running a lot of gems at any given point, in competition with his.
Also, I don't need to manage inventory and worry about undercutting.

Not sure if I'll go for this, we haven't finalized anything yet.
Still, 5-10 mins to log the assorted teams in, and make cuts, then mail COD.

The math behind prospecting makes prospecting actually bring the price of materials for cardinals down to around 10g per gem over long periods of time. This plus whatever the eternal cost is. I found someone so interested in buying my cooldowns he gave me 8k gold to finish leveling my characters in exchange for 39 majestic zircon over the next week.

You aren't doing 30 like myself though so i'm not sure you will be doing that. But doing gem x-mutes every 20 hours for 30 characters will net about 1.3 million gold in 1500 days.

Something that you bring up is the market being able to handle all those extra gems per day. When playing on a super high pop server the market will not adversely be affected for 30 extra items being introduced into the market per 24 hour average.

You know it's a lot cheaper/easier to just do the potion mastery quest and then pay to change to transmute. Cheaper too I think.

That would be like... 12 botanica runs + 12x the ring of blood + the nightmare vine + the dreaming glory.

I mean it would be 150 dreaming glory + 150 nightmare vine.

Yes it would be cheaper, but also more time invested. Plus i got them in bulk for cheap like 40g per. So it wasnt too bad.

Primal Might - Patch 3.0.2 (2008-10-14): Removed the 20-hour cooldown.

BC Meta Gem transmutes also had a 48h cooldown, reduced to 1day in patch 2.1.0 and then removed altogether in 3.0.2

Mith>Truesilver / Iron>Gold used to be 48 hour cooldowns, dropped to 23 then finally to 20h in 2.4.2, when all profession cooldowns were reduced.

Removing and reducing cooldowns is not unheard of.

Most of these were done in 3.0.2 which is a whole expansion after they were introduced. So sure they get reduced or taken away, but seeing EPIC GEM cooldowns getting removed before cataclysm would simply RUIN economies. It's one thing to remove cooldowns that will help people actually gear up alts, i guess you can say the same for gemming that gear but the infrastructure of many economies on many servers are based upon gem and enchanting materials, it's been that way since BC. Not to mention epic gems were only released 2 major content patches ago.

You will never beat farming samsam and stuff in outlands regardless of your mount speed.
Outlands is a transition zone, where they put that there just so you could get to the right level in the 2 1/2 levels you spend there.

You dont go to outlands to farm those herbs which is why he thinks they are so rare. I farmed dreamfoil / sansam and silversage for at least a year in vanilla for raids, if you know the routes its not more then 20 seconds before your on another spawn
