Gold from farming heroics?

Hi all,
so this week has been spent pretty much exclusively farming badges in heroics. Being new to 5 manning heroics (or anything for that matter) I have had many wipes which get expensive for the higher geared toons. My question is, is there are way to make gold from these runs or will I just have to bite the bullet and run dailies?
So far the only drops what I have been using has been frostweave and borean leather. I have had 2 epic weapons drop which auctioneer lists as worth about 1.5k each but I think I will keep for my lvl 71 rogue when he hits 80. I also have chanters DE'ing the drops I do not need but with all the gear upgrades I have been keeping those mats for enchants to new gear.
Anything I am missing here for making gold?

After you are bascially gear saturared, money is pouring in since you can sell your disenchants, buy gems or orbs via badges and sell those too.

A long time before I am gear saturated lol. At the moment it is taking over an hour to run the shortest heroic, it is getting faster but still a long way to go to get all the badge gear I need :P

You make decent cash doing the random ones, selling heavy borean leather and imbued frostweave bolts. Try to do WG when it's up and buy epic gems with honor, then sell em. DE what you can. The prices on everything have gone down because of the patch but it should spring the other way soon. Especially as people start replacing more gear and needing enchants and enhancements.

If you can DE all blues you will not use, epics you will not use etc.... you will make over 16k from gearing your characters (if both pve + pvp gear)

Once gear saturated you "should" be able to make about 1.5k an hour or more from heroics.

Before i "claim" this is true i'm going to say that this is just based on pure math and economics.

Most servers have the following prices (from what i've seen)

Infinite Dust: 2g per
Greater Cosmic Essence: 15g per
Dream Shard: 25g per
Abyss Crystal: 35g each
Frozen Orb: 15g each

Using the RANDOM DUNGEON FINDER system and assuming you have an enchanter in your group able to DE the items from bosses.

210 badges for pve gear (not including off pieces) + 290 for pvp gear (not including off pieces) = 500 badges. Most instances give 6 badges from the new system... i use this as an average, though some give 5 and some give 7 about 80% give 6.

500 badges/ 6 badges per run = ~84 runs

We're going to assume that you get all 6 badge runs because this is the average. Meaning that you get 4 blues from bosses + frozen orb + 1 epic from the bosses. 13 gold per character for the end of the instance (65 total per run) We're going to also assume there are two greens per run with an average item level of 77 (meaning a better chance to drop 1-2 greater cosmic... about 62% i believe.. about 33% for 2-5 infinite dust though this seems to have been doubled according to about 15 of my friends on average)

This puts green average value at... about 16 gold per.
I also assume there is about 10 gold worth of greys/sellables per run or so

65 x 84 = 5460g
84 * 4 = 336 dream shards (25 g each) = 8400g
84 * 35 = 2975 g
84*15 = 1260g
84*2 = 168 greens *16 = 2688
84 * 10 = 840

Total value: ~21k gold

This does not take into consideration if you somehow manage to get a hilt, or BOE epic like bell trinket etc.



JUST realized i went through that explanation for nothing and answered the wrong question.

MOST servers orbs = 200g each
If you are gear saturted... you SHOULD pull 3 heroics per hour, ATLEAST 2.5 (we assume the same things as above)

Assuming 2x hours of 2.5 runs per hour (i'd honestly say 3, which i'll prove once i can)

20 * 25 = 500 (dream shards)
5 * 65 = 325 (gold from instances at end from 2 emblem thing)
5 * 35 = 175 (abyss crystals)
10 * 16 = 160 (de'd items for enchanting materials)
5 * 10 = 50 (random drops, greys etc)
5 * 15 = 75 (frozen orbs)
10 * 200 = 2000 (crusader orbs, at 6 average per run and 5 heroics that is 2 per character = 10 total)

Total gold: ~ 3300
Total gold per hour: 1650




None of the above includes silver/gold made from mobs and is purely based on drops. So more money can be made if you get a better than 2 greens per run average or an epic BOE item OR boe blues that can be DE'd as well (as boe blues don't sell well at all)

Those AH prices are very server dependent, for instance Frozen Orbs were listed last night on AH for 7g and Infinite dust listed at 1g each on my server Uther. Whereas Crusader's Ordbs were listing for 350 - 400g each.

Um... if they are selling for DOUBLE what i stated... then you'd make... over 2k gold an hour. JUST from the orbs. (because you get 10 in 2 hours)

So... all the rest of it is basically free extra money.

But like i said, it's prices based on my server experience. It is very server dependent. (example... illidan has tailoring items that sell for 250g each... where they are 80 on most servers)

Why are we always think the mats we get from farming are auto-sells. I post my enchanting mats onto AH. I get under cut constantly. Took me days to sell a few shards, if I am not there to camp the AH. (just post and leave, come back the next day). Same thing with the gems I transmuted. The glyph I made. If I don't watch them, they are not sold. So I don't buy the 1k gold per hour from heroics theory.

Takes time to trade, and takes luck to sell.

It's best to save your mats and sell in bulk, find bulk buyers or use the mats yourself on enchanting scrolls. Certain things do require time to sell but there are many many things that do not. It also depends on WHEN you post the materials. If you post them during prime time then of course you are going to be undercut. It's that amount WORTH per hour, it does not mean instant sales. Nothing in this game instasells and you can get undercut on anything no matter what the market is. This is something that could be brought up about any type of farming unless it is sales to NPC.

I thought I would mention that disenchanting materials are based on the item type; armor or weapon. Armor will more often DE into dust (75% of the time) where weapons will DE into essence (75% of the time). Given how poor the material market has become on my server (actual sales, vs. listed price) I've found it's often equally profitable just to vendor the greens.

I have to say I must be doing something horribly wrong because I'm almost to the currently attainable, non-raider gear cap and average only 2 heroics an hour, unless I get a lucky string of the fast ones (UK, DtK, VH). For the most part, unless you're consistently getting the harder heroics just doing the random dungeon finder should cover the bulk of your repair / wipe costs. This takes about 1 week to acquire enough badges unless you are talking about the 10 you get from the quests for unlocking the new instances etc. They do sell for 2-5k per server so if you manage to get 5 of them it could fetch a good profit.

two heroics per hour isn't exactly "slow" per say... it all depends on your team makeup. But i've had experiences in CoT with a LARGE margin of time etc. Keep in mind this is with pug groups and NOT boxing. This was also pre t9 dps as well where shaman in t9 should be able to pull 5k easy... and if you have 4 dps pulling 5k each and are not able to down things VERY quickly then there is something incredibly wrong. But not everyone uses shaman.


Edit: back to the point of undercutting. Keep a list of people who undercut you, and give them a marginal amount of materials for about 80% of the price... they will almost always take the deals and resell. This is because most people who spend their time undercutting others are ones who have a lot of gold themselves and just want quick turnaround.

I have 2 T9 geared shaman's in my 5 man group and on trash they are capping around 4k. Granted I still need to tweak their click macro's and one of them just got the Quel'Delar mace but I doubt that's going to make up your theorized missing 1k.

Anyways I've gone astray from the original post.

The point I'm trying to make is that it sounds like this is Crowdx's first 5 man team and as such we've gotten a bit off point by suggesting methods to maximize gold with a fully geared team. I'm sure there are other 5-boxers who would agree that gearing up your first team is a totally different experience then gearing up subsequent teams. Ideally as long as you're breaking even on repairs at the end of the run you've done well.

Crowdx you did mention that you found 2 BoE weapons that you were thinking of saving for your rogue. One thing you might want to consider, depending which account your rogue is on is that once you get your first team geared up you could sub your rogue into a dps slot and get them "free" upgrades from the various heroics. Essentially taking advantage of the gold now and getting the rogue weapons through alternative means later. I speak from experience after stashing untold amounts of gear into the guild bank, only to have it replaced quickly from heroic / emblem upgrades.

I never believe this ah crap :P gotta remember your pricing@ your own price or getting undercut. If you post more then 2-3 of something its prolly not going to sell before someone else can put one up under at least your last auction.

I am bascially making hardly money off the ah these days since like most stated due to the vast supply you get so often undercut it's not even funny and most materials are so dead cheap that I rather stock them for the time being.

I bought a few epic recipes which droped down in prices since 3.3 and hope to making some money out of them.

VERY dependant on your server - enchanting mats go quick on mine, but dream shards, good luck. I sold into an idiot trying to corner the market, but last I looked, they were headed for the vendor price, so I have a couple of stacks. Orbs, both kind, have been falling, but slowly - I think they're selling into the mass of TOC patterns like Merlin's Robe and Razorplate that are all over our AH right now. Lots of people are looking in trade for these patterns to get them made, so I think that's what's going on with the orb market.

BC enchanting mats, however, are a GOLDMINE. Every enchanter who's leveling needs them, and some pre-Wrath enchants still sell, and sell lots. Mongoose goes for 400 gold on my server (and that's less than the mats will sell for), and I just got Steelweave from Heroic Magister's Terrace (I'm sightseeing with my team), and it *sells*. You should be able to clear 5 BC heroics in no time, and get an average of 4-5 abyss crystals, 5 primal nethers, stacks of large prismatic shards, and stacks of dust and eternals - and the occasional pre-Wrath Darkmoon cards (that sell), BoE weapons and gear, the occasional world Epic drop, and if you farm Heroic Sekketh and Magisters, you can get the rare mounts. One hour a day is getting me 500g for everything, at least - more if I make enchanting scrolls from the dust and shards. Mongoose takes a LOT of abyss crystals and shards, but they're ridiculously easy to get. On full Kara run should get you stacks of everything, and it's an easy run with 5 80s - I had a little trouble with Snow White, but everything else was dead easy.

Anchuidon is a farm fest at 80. You can run all 4 in no time, then run labs again, in under an hour. Tempest keep the same, if you have the keys - and getting the key is maybe 3 full runs of mech and bot to get to honored? My Mage can Arcane Explode through most of it. The only dicey moment I had - and a funny one, was I accidently pulled about 20 mobs in Heroic Magister's at low mana on everyone, and my mage got smooshed. But I killed them all! :)

Throw a movie on, and farm BC dungeons for an hour, then do dailies for an hour- you'll have plenty of money.

If you have a JCer, miner, and alchemist, make epic gems every day. It's guaranteed income right now. Mine sell within 5 minutes of being posted, this last week. Pots and flasks are big money as well, in quantity.

You have to look at the market. There's a flood of wrath enchanting mats on the market, especially dream shards, from the new roll mechanic. enctanted scrolls are more rare. There's a flood of saronite and titanium on the market, along with orbs. Forget that market, you'll never catch up. Concentrate on pre-Wrath - if you mine, Thorium and Mithril, and to some extent BC ores, are selling for more than cobalt and saronite - thorium goes over 100g a stack easily - and the last time I went to get some in Sith and elsewhere, for the first time I saw no bots.

Feed the profession powerlevelers. It's easy money - one hour of work is all you need.

Speaking from actual, current, heroic multiboxing experience it's tough to make gold right now. Enchanting mats sell for almost nothing, aside from greater cosmics. You'll get enough from trash drops to pay your repair bills, and you'll get some badges as well. I think I net about 20g each toon per heroic, and maybe another 50g total in greens that I can sell or DE. So a net total of 100g - 150g for the group. If you run every heroic perfectly with no wipes, maybe you can make more. Since I usually don't sell the enchanting mats, I think I walk out of heroics with basically the 13g or whatever quest reward.

You may end up 3k-4k overall, but on bosses you should be like 4k-6k roughly depending on mechanics.

Just with lightning bolt spam you should easily pull 4kdps on trash and 4-6kdps on boss with cooldowns and heroism. Im lazy and havent set up click macros but just use lightning bolt and have lightning bolt glyphed. I do have a moonkin providing the 13% magic damage buff but I would assume that your DK would be specced to do that if u dont have a druid.

As you can see theres still a lot of room for improvement on gear. Dont settle for 3k dps in t9 gear :)

I probably mis-spoke. I have 3 pieces of t9, but a lot of ilevel 200 gear still, including a 200 weapon and shield. I'm only at about 2k spellpoints. So I do see my dps going up and heroics are getting easier. I just just don't see my gold going up more than about 100g a day per account after getting about 50 badges a day.
