Is there a thread devoted to people who might want to start multi-boxing, but have no clue about it?

I've looked around the site for a good bit, maybe I've just passed over the starting newbie thread.

I was just looking for info on how much it would cost to get this up and running, how many computers I need, etc etc.

Sorry if I'm being dumb by asking this question when the answer should be right in front of me!

theres a whole wiki for it, theres also a newcomers section with multiple multiple stickies, its very easy to find.

The Wiki is a good place to start.

Ok, There have been a few lost souls threads recently, I am going to have to look at the forum / wiki with fresh eyes and see how it has changed...

maybe we can optimise the experience for the newcomer.

yep it has changed a lot since my day... there are too many global stickies obscuring the relevant information in the Beginners section.

the faq has been lost among all the other informative stickies that don't help a newcomer looking for information on how to start.

There is also a "Wiki" tab at the top with a huge green "?" icon next to it...

That wiki main page has at least two incredibly useful links called "Getting Started" and "Multiboxing 101" that are very easy to find...

tbh though the actual threads in the beginners section are about specific issues people have and are not that informative until you have a basic understanding.

Xzin's thread seems to have been lost (from the forum, it is in the wiki) and many of the useful stickes have obscure subjects (for those very new to the community)

I was starting to get a little ticked off with everyone asking for help before reading up and decided to find out why we get so much of it these days.

look at the forums with fresh eyes and it is a bit of a mess. I think we need to promote the wiki as the source of information for the new starter.

One problem with the site is the "Wiki" button.

While people that have been around know where it is, someone new to the site will easily glance over it.
The button itself lacks any information other than it is a Wiki. Changing it to a flashing graphic (or something eye-catching) and making it a litle more descriptive would help.
There is a LOT of information on the first page for a new users to take in (including a lot of links)..anything to draw more attention to items you think people should know first would be a good start.

I'm not sure if it can be done with the forums, but putting a direct link that "looks" like you are going to a forum might also help. The more ways to get to the Wiki, the less chance people will have to look over it.

Sometimes people search so hard for something, they miss what's right in front of them....My keys come to mind. :P
But it doesn't mean they aren't looking or putting forth the effort. That being said, there are some people who just refuse, and there's nothing that can be done for them.

It would be funny if it was possible to add another button into the Message editor that would auto-populate a response with "n00b" information and links.

agreed mate, but I think we also have to make it easier for them to find the info they need. Of course this could bring down the wrath of the community to anyone who doesn't a least take a look at the big flashing look here for multibox secrets link
