When to start looting?

I wish i can not loot all the bodies when i run instances. The only reason i loot the bodies is for the cloth (tailoring and first aid) for blue/greens (de for enchanting), and for the money. I wish there was a way not to pick up grays and whites (well maybe some whites like cloth and suck, but not food, what is my 70 rogue going to do with lvl 15/25 food?). What i do is dropped of the toons in a safe place to get xp, kill all the guys and loot them. Only the way back to get the toons i drop all the stuff that i don't want. Sometimes i wish there was no confirmation asking if i want to drop an item.

I loot everything..... Need to get the epic flying on my 70's still.......

I set looting to free for all and loot with my main. When my main gets full, I pass to my one of my shammies until empty. Wash, rinse, repeat. I only go back to town to get new skills every two levels.

I loot everything.
- Give all your toons 16 slot bags
- Put it on free-for-all
- Use auto-loot to speed up looting.
- Loot with your main
- Whenever all your mains bags fill, trade full stacks and greens to one of the alts.
It helps to have one alt with enchanting to DE all the greens you get along the way.

In my server, prices are very over inflated right now. I've managed to rack up 200g+ on my lvl29 mages just selling crap in the AH. Especially the new BOE blues in SFK & WC.

Sure, you can still make more on a 70 doing dailies, but who can't use an extra 200g.

all those grey things... they make my repair bill

personally these options:
- master looter
- loot treshold : rare
- non main : pass on loot

this way, the main gets all the loot, and still can divide interesting stuff to alt's.
full bag = trade alt

I stop looting when power leveling in old world instances: RFC, SFK, and SM. And when I have a bank alt full of sub 50 enchant mats.

I start looting in BRD, LBRS, Scholo/Strath just for the Enchant Mats. These are needed to overcome the 275-300 Enchant skill ups.

Definitely loot all of Outlands. Also, it's better to have your alts/noobs to train even 1 skill point in their chosen professions. This way, when rare recipe drop, they can loot it even if they aren't maxed in the trade skill yet.

To clarify how I will be leveling, I'm running around with warlocks and shadow priests, and dotting everything to death. The goal is to be killing non-stop. I won't be spending much (if any) time in instances. Each time I pause to loot a corpse, I'm delaying leveling. The sooner they hit 70, the sooner I can start making real gold. Consider how much /played time it would take to loot every corpse from 1-50, and even if you do great at the AH, your can just jump on the 70s, do a few dailies, and you've made more gold than you possibly could while leveling.

I still don't know what I'll end up looting.

Me either, though I tend to level slowly with my group and am not focused on leveling speed, which is what the OP was interested in.

I would say that it depends on whether or not you have an enchanter in your group. If you do, start looting for greens when you are in SM, if Small Brilliant Shards sell well on your server. I always looted everything and would just DE most of it and bank it. Later on I finally decided to start selling the stuff on the AH and made close to 2,000 gold in a week (I had a LOT of enchanting materials :P ). Also, from level... 40ish?... on up, I always came out ahead on money after I repaired and sold my grays/vendor trash. Considering that I've paid for four level 40 mounts and will be paying for four level 60 mounts and four level 70 mounts, every copper counts.

But if it's a case of leveling speed > everything-else-no-matter-what-etc, then I wouldn't loot anything until I started Outlands instances.

Looting anything other than DEable stuff in SM:Cath while powerleveling is foolish, in my opinion.

The cash from all the grey/cloth crap is just not worth it. Looting nearly doubles the amount of time a run takes! Spend 30min on your main and get 8-12 hours worth of SM:Cath cash....

Yup, gold is easier at 70.

30 minutes doing SSO quest in the Isle is a lot of gold compared to spending 5 minutes looting every clearing done in SM:Cath during the boosting days.

Even in BRD or LBRS, I only loot with my Shamans when the Paladin is sitting and drinking for 20 seconds + auto runs to the next pull. Move with the keyboard, loot with the mouse. It works out.

But in Outlands, I can't pass up on the possibilities of stuff I will use at 70.
