That's a tough story. I'm glad you got out of it without any bans.
But I have one general question:

Am I, as an ingame player, required to read the chat ?

After all, you can turn it off by simply switching to the combat log instead. Is it stated somewhere in the EULA that customers have to read what other people write ingame?
Seriously, what if I decide to turn it off, because I don't feel like reading 12-yr olds' comments? Will a GM-whisper somehow pass through anyway? I mean without any addons.

Any thoughts?

i agree with this. definitely a bit odd. i believe they interact with the character in question before banning.

in shadowbane, the GMs would appear as a huge, disembodied head... it was awesome! (people would start chanting 'big head' when they knew a GM was there). first time i saw it, it totally freaked me out (more like scared the crap out of me). one moment, you're looking across a courtyard, the next... a huge head is looking at you

Now that would be killer. A huge freakin head like the one that shows up in the Reliquary of Souls fight. Even better, have it pop in and introduce itself in a zone-wide yell like Kazzak does and be visible so that everyone could see it in all its 10-story-tall glory. :P

I've had accounts banned during Blizzs banning sprees (not without cause, but still a bit harsh for the offense).... They already decided what their actions will be before they contact you, they only make ontact to see if they get a response. No response means it's more likely you're a bot, and more justified to ban. 30 day bans exist also, but are precursors to permabans.

Are you on US or EU realms?

Because if you're on a US realm, I feel fairly confident that Mimic and Prototype are not actual GM names, since I can find those characters (50+ for both) in the Armory - which should imply they aren't real GMs. Did they have the nifty new Blizzard logo by their names or regular tags?

Also, according to the Penalty Volcano (http://us.blizzard.com/support/artic...rticleId=20221) I don't see 30-day bans as a possible punishment and in all my days of reading the Cust Serv forums, I've never heard of one being handed out.

when i tried to log in...The email came from bliz and it had their little logo. Like i said i've talked to a few GMs for varying reasons, only 2 since i've been boxing and the first guys was only a few days ago and was really polite and profesional. These two were...well, not so much, Prototype wasen't too bad, but Mimic wasen't too nice, i guess he just didn't have a clue as to what i was actually doing, it's the only thing i can think of...

Maybe he was a noobcake GM.. just started working there. Regardless.. they are the customer service for something that you pay real money; and I don't think Blizz would condone it. It's a business and it should be conducted in that manner. He can throw tantrums on the general forums not when he's at work.

Not to be a dick, but where do you get your information from? Do you have any GM Conversation screenshots confirming your statements? Do you have a link confirming 30 day bans?

It happened to me, I'll see if I still have the email from Blizz and I'll post it, that was 3 years ago though... Go to any of the WoW hacking sites, you will see where ppl where given a 30 day ban and then permabanned within an hour after.
