Starting Toon For Future MB Setup
Hey guys. So I'm just starting WoW (have played other MMOs and multiboxed pretty heavily before) and I'm trying to decide my starting class.
I'm only going to buy 1 account to start with and level that for awhile to learn the game, make some gold etc before moving onto MBing 5 accounts.
So I need a starting class that will be good solo for some time before moving into a 5 box. I was going to go with hunter as I hear they are easy for new players, good damage, they do suit me and I read they're pretty good 5 boxed. But after I upgraded my account to paid last night I made a death night for the hell of it today as my first play through (aside from minor tinkering on trial account earlier) and it wasn't that big of a deal. I'm thinking of revising my first thought and making my first toon one that will be part of a trinity setup. First thought is obviously paladin but I want something that will be good solo survival as well as good damage for a starter and pala kinda sucks (at least what I tested at low levels).
So DK seems like they can be very good damage but can they be good survival at the same time? When I played DK in the starter area his damage was good but the survival didn't seem that great. Just that occasional 20% heal. If I have to change to a tank spec that doesn't do good DPS to get survival then that's pointless.
Additionally of great importance (perhaps the most important aspect for a starter toon) is that as soon as I feel I'm done getting used to the game and am ready to 5 box I'll be making the other 4 accounts. I'll then want to make the best use of RAF as i can so I want a class that will also be great for running 4 RAF'd toons through dungeons on that main. I've watched videos of mages doing it with AOE's but can a DK do it? Do they have good AOEs to run leveling alts through dungeons?
So to boil it all down first they must be good at solo for awhile as I level the first one. Second importance is good AOE (and maybe heals for the alts but maybe not that important) for running alts through dungeons like I've watched in videos. And lastly good as part of a trinity setup.
Though now that I think about it I guess it doesn't have to be hunter or DK they just need to serve the first 2 roles first (good solo damage/survivability) then good at running alts through dungeons. After that any role that will work in a trinity setup is good (someone that can tank well or a great DPS).
Yeah as much as I try I can't write short threads hehe. Thanks for reading.

I'd suggest playing a tank if you plan to 5-box tank/healer/3 DPS, as most people seem to drive their team from the tank. Paladin is a good one to start with. Alternatively, a high-level BM Hunter with AE-focused talents would rip through any lower level content.
I'd also suggest if this is your first time playing WoW that you don't use RAF. There is a lot of good content at lower levels and you level at a decent rate just by doing instances; even faster with heirlooms which a new player could fund with a single WoW token purchase. You'll also learn to play the game. Legion gets you the opportunity to grant level 100 to one character per account if you want to skip to the end-game.

This. Honestly multiboxing is far more fun leveling 1-80 than anything else, so RAF just cheats you of the good parts.

Well if it's fun leveling like that then I'll try it afterwards but I also want to get them all to endgame to make gold with which to buy legion and game time first. I'm not about to drop some (additional over 1 acc) $300 on this game (4 legion plus game time). I might buy 1 legion for the first account. Then I'll probably make enough gold to buy the other 4 accounts. Although if I can get the 4 battlechest accounts for just $10 each I might do that (by using the 50% off in the login page, not sure if i can do that though). Or if they have one of those 75% off sales...
I'm also a very quick study and I've played MBing in other games with up to 8 accounts with tank, multiple healers, various DPS, various CC etc etc and with a far less capable MBing program than Isboxer (used hotkeynet in anarchy online which is also a far less MBing capable/functioning game than this). So I'm really going to enjoy the extra power and function WoW will grant me.
PS: Oh and you said a hunter can rip through lower content. Did you mean AoE? So a hunter could drop all these low level mobs as quick as the mage in this video? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xwi8aq65lF4

I'd go hunter. Great dps, great soloing, good survivability. My current preferred multiboxing team is 2 druids (guardian, resto) and 3 hunters. Really enjoying that right now. One hunter would probably really help carry the group when leveling, though I'm not sure the exact mechanics of powerleveling these days.
