Memory usage

Hi,

I noticed that each instance of wow is taking around 5gb of ram which seems way too much to me. (using isboxer)
I then ran 5 instances of wow not via isboxer and each one took around 3.8gb of ram. This also seems more than usual, but can't really say.
This is in Ashran, flying above stormshield looking down. I have a macro that changes display settings when swapping windows, so only one instance can actually see something, the rest just see blueish fog. This does nothing to mem usage, it doesn't go down on the instances with lower settings.

First, I'd say that that's pretty abnormal memory usage (with or without ISBoxer). I just tested my own game client outside of ISBoxer and I can't even reach 2GB with plenty of settings cranked up at 3840x2160 using the 64-bit game client (which is normal for me).

Second, I don't think turning down settings frees up all that much system memory, and I think the game client is going to use a set amount of memory no matter what you do, which is why we normally tell people to budget for 2GB per game client since that's the most you should probably ever expect to be using.

As for your memory leak, I wouldn't really know where to start looking (outside of Blizzard's own forums) since I don't think I've ever experienced a memory leak with WoW, at least not that I can remember.

My guess is it's some addon(s) that have lots of cruft in settings. Over the years, I've always seen my client usage and performance improve remarkably when I have to reinstall and wipe out my settings. Typically, it's stuff like addons that save tons of settings or data that tend to be primary offenders. Mine have been auction house addons and two unit frames addons (Bulldog and one other I can't remember).

Might be completely irrelevant to your setup but that's been my experience. Worth checking, anyway. (Just don't forget to backup your WTF folder in case you bork something during debug.)

Yeah, I try to load addon sets and only enable what I need at a given moment for this reason.
