5 Hunter Viable Again?

After looking at the gimmick Cata boss fights, i though it might be easier to get some pvp gear first to start heroics. Then i realize there are no more Arena points. iLevel264 pvp gear can be purchase with Honor Points. Are there any other restrictions? Spirit Beast and talent has some healing abilitys. I am not really up to date on pvp. I have been boosting my teams for Cata.

I have some hopes that they will be able to do at least some instances with the pets tanking. With the zero-cooldown Misdirection thing it has possibilities, though I'm expecting them to put a cooldown on that before too long.

As completely OP as my 3-hunter sub-group is right now in at-level BC content, it'll be interesting to see how they do in NR instances. The skeptic in me says "BAH...they won't scale...don't get your hopes up" but the wishful thinker in me says "just...maybe..."

Let me kick the wishful thinker in you in the nuts right away. Hunter pets can't tank heroics, period. Even if you have 5 of them.

The point of this thread is that with the talent rearrangements and such, it may be possible for hunter pet groups to accomplish a few things they couldn't before. Time will tell.

[edit] I just 3-manned Slave Pens at 65 with BM hunters. One pet died when I got feared into two other groups of 4. And they're wearing the warlock cloth heirlooms. They're much improved over pre-4.0. We'll see how it goes as I level.

Yes, when you grossly overgear content, you can do nifty things...

I leveled up 4 hunters and a priest to 80, I regretted almost every bit of it.

The melee range thing is just horrible. i.e. they start swinging melee weapons instead of shooting.

The 4x snake traps and 4 pets were fun, but trying to take a tower or hold a tower in AV for example, was just about impossible.
