5 Hunter Viable Again?

No, no, no... Learn to search! This comp and the healer+4xHunter variation died at the end of Burning Crusade.

The point of this thread is that with the talent rearrangements and such, it may be possible for hunter pet groups to accomplish a few things they couldn't before. Time will tell.

[edit] I just 3-manned Slave Pens at 65 with BM hunters. One pet died when I got feared into two other groups of 4. And they're wearing the warlock cloth heirlooms. They're much improved over pre-4.0. We'll see how it goes as I level.

I leveled up 4 hunters and a priest to 80, I regretted almost every bit of it.

The melee range thing is just horrible. i.e. they start swinging melee weapons instead of shooting.

The 4x snake traps and 4 pets were fun, but trying to take a tower or hold a tower in AV for example, was just about impossible.

Lol exactly. Hunters are that class that gets buffed to seem viable and then cold reality hits you in the face. It's the one set I wish I had never wasted time leveling.

Arena Wrath gear rating requirements has been removed. Except i277 weapons. So over gear it now if you have Honor Points

Which wrath gear do you mean? Only some wrath gear can be bought at e.g. belf veteran armor quartermaster in Orgrimmar, but those are same as before the 4.0.1 patch. All other wrath gear seem to still require ratings...

No only shoulders and weapons do. Cmon man keep up with the patches!


P.s. Just because you can overgear heroics and complete them does not mean you will have any success in cata. In fact I will go out on a limb and say that hunter teams will clear no heroics in cata until the next expansion is already being beta tested. If that floats your boat then go for it.

Just thought I'd add this bit of info from the latest beta patch:

"Crit immunity for tenacity pets

The change to Grace of the Mantis is a minor one for the vast majority of gameplay but a huge one for extreme soloing or pet tanking. Raid bosses have a 5.6 percent chance to crit their target, and Grace of the Mantis only reduced crit chance by a maximum of 4 percent. In Wrath, hunters managed the extra 1.6 percent crit reduction for their pets by stacking resilience gear. With the changes to resilience in Cataclysm, that is no longer an option.

Now, however, hunter pets will once again be able to attain raid boss crit immunity. This leaves the door open for extreme pet tanking in Cataclysm."


Will it work? Not sure, I guess people will have to do some testing, but it looks like we won't have to stack resil gear to achieve a simple crit-immunity.
