Default 4 hunters and a healer

I'm planning to try out a group with 4 hunters and a healer as master. Which healer class is best suited, I'm currently thinking druid or a priest? When playing dungeons I guess my four pets will do the tanking and aoe healing is nice to help keeping them alive. Which class has the most effective aoe healing?

Tbh I wouldn't recomend that set up for dungeons, especially if you want to get to high level.
Hunter pets can tank but not wotlk bosses they'll get 1 shotted

Linked below are some threads to help you do your research. (Some of them are quite old, so be careful with the conclusions).

You will be able to do normal mode instances all the way to L80 with no problem. Heroics are out of the question unless you outgear the content significantly, which leads to a chicken/egg problem of how you're going to outgear the content without being able to run heroics (answer is likely BG honor rewards, but this team is not a super BG team).

I'm going to throw out some links, but AT THE CURRENT TIME, I would not recommend this group composition. If you absolutely must bash your head against the wall, I'd recommend a druid healer. Wild Growth is nice for your swarm of pet-tanks, and HoTs plus healing buffs on the pet mean a continual stream of big heals which helps mitigate the low health pool and low tank-ability of the pets. Normal mode stuff will be quite fun and is very doable in WotLK content.

This comp was one of the most fun comps I've run to level up in instances. I shelved them within a month of getting them all to 80, however. It's not a great PvP team and it's nearly impossible to PvE with them.

If you're dead set on running some hunters, I'd recommend a Tank+Healer+3xHunter setup.

There's a good reason why most of the Healer+4xHunter threads died off 1.5-2 years ago. Be forewarned,

I stand sort of corrected but also not :P It must have been some hard work to run 80 dungeons with pets
I did actually mean heroic bosses when I said 1 shotted
if you are going for it then GL to ya but if so I'd say deffo go with the tank+ 3 hunter an healer idea would work well I think

As has been mentioned, don't be surprised if you simply fail at heroics due to pets not being able to tank as well as real tanks. There ARE people who tank heroics with their pets but don't expect to be able to gear yourself up in purplez fast with that group.

With that in mind, I would personally prefer a shaman or druid for healing duties. Druid for now, though after Cataclysm I might change my opinion to Shammies with the buffs they're getting. Druid is a better pure healer, IMO, but a shaman brings more group buffs and wipe prevention to the table.

    Default been there, done that

I leveled a priest and 4 hunters as my first team. The priest gives you amazing aoe heals which makes managing the pets a breeze.

All through the classic world and outlands I had very little trouble with dungeons. They were almost trivial with the 4 tanking pets and 4 ranged dps you just chew up stuff. Wotk is a whole different animal. I had trouble doing all of the dungeons at level or a few levels beyond them. I was unable to clear any of the dungeons when I was supposed too.

The saving grace of this setup is that it is hellish fun in AV

I'd suggest a Pally tank, a Shaman healer, and 3 BM hunters with dps pets. That setup gives you the mico-management free totems (clensing totem is awesome), some decent aoe heals at range, and a tank that can take a punch. The aoe tanking and aoe hunter abilities are real nice for synergy too.

Since the end game is all about heroics and emblems, don't do what I did and level 2 teams to 80 just to get into the heroic game.

I'm also a big fan of using instant healing-over-time spells, at higher levels which is most powerful; the priest's Renew or the druid's Rejuvination?

Druid is a better choice, multiple rolling HoTs of different kinds plus you buff your team better for DPS with MOTW.

Please do not plow ahead with 4xHunters+Healer... Heed the many warnings that have been given already. You hit an amazing brick wall in WotLK for PvE, and the BG capability of multiple hunters is exceedingly limited!!

You do not see any more chatter about this comp on these forums for a good reason. All the fans of this team have long since moved on when WotLK hit (myself included).

I played druid and 4 hunters to 80. Everyone is right, once you get to about 80 its very hard to do this compand virtually impoossible to do heroics. Fun comp for a while, but in wotlk it just dies.

4 hunters / priest was my first team to 80. pretty much spot on=p. I abandon'd ship to play around with dks and pallies. I actually did finally get full PVP gear with my hunters...(mostly thru WG and such). and they are sort of amusing in AV...but no, they are not very effective, really. and even with PVP gear, they still suck at instances. I never tried a heroic with that team, tbh, based on my experience in regular dungeons, lol.

that said, they are a really fun team to run around with. But yeah, at 80, well, theres a pretty effective wall. lol. I still occasionally log them in and do daileys and the like. running past a whole bunch of wold mobs shooting them once and letting your pet taunt off you and kill them is fun =0. But, you said you wanted to do dungeons...which isn't gonna happen in wrath.

ah, the memories. they are fond.
