    Introduction
My name is colin. I've been boxing since early burning crusade and have always been more into the financial aspect of this game than anything else. Raiding is all well and good but whats the point if you can't afford all the new toys that come out with every content patch to put you one step above the rest? Over the years i've made tons of in game gold most of which was through single characters and during BC i never really took boxing seriously other than for the PVP aspect of it.

Since i've been boxing again in WOTLK there has been one goal in mind... Hit 1 million gold by cataclysm. So far that gold isn't close to being reached... I have about 40k gold to my name but i have spent far too much gold on things that were necessary. I've powerleveled enchanting, jewelcrafting, paid people to help farm herbs to level 32 alchemists, given gold to friends for helping power level through dungeons, 9 hilts among other things. I've accumulated about 500,000 gold in less than 3 months not even going 100% at it just going about my thing day to day. Now yes most of that was from alchemy as i invested my time to do that but as of recent i've come to the conclusion that optimization of profit through heroics and basic AH manipulation is what will yield the highest profits for my time and still help me reach that 1 million mark by cataclysm.

    Why heroics?
They make you the most money... Period. It's not even close.

    Basic heroic info
There was stuff here, i will add it back at a later date when i restructure my posts. It was just quoting some people who posted here and personal experiences etc etc....

As Dungeons give 4-8 badges with the LFD feature. Though there are far more dungeons with 5-7 so i will be using the average of 6 badges for the numerical values. I will also assume you are running while holding wintergrasp as it is most profitable to do so due to the stonekeeper shards.

    Every heroic is worth approximately:
    6 Emblem of Triumph
6 Green Items with the average worth of 6 gold per
5 Blue items with the average worth of 6 gold per (BOE items included here)
    1 Purple Item
    25-75 gold in silver/trash drops
    Decent amount of Frostweave Cloth
    16x stonekeeper shards.
13g per toon from LFD feature
    1 Frozen Orb

So this means for every 10 heroics you get. (2.5 hours worth)
    300 emblems of triumph
    60 green items
    50 blue items
    10 purple items
    ~500 gold from trash
    750 stonekeeper shards
650g from LFD feature (5 toons)
    10 frozen orbs.

At face Value this is worth.
    300 emblems (discussed below)
    60 green items (360 gold)
    50 blue items (300 gold)
    10 purple items (200 gold)
    500 gold from trash
750 stonekeeper shards = 5 gems (gem prices discussed below)
    650g from LFD
10 frozen orbs (Used in optimization)

Total: ~2200 gold worth of items NOT INCLUDING emblems or gems.
~700 gold per hour. Before Gems and usage of emblems and frozen orbs

    Emblem Usage

    Gems
Uncut gems (as of 4/28/10 on illidan)
    Red: 100
    Blue: 100
    Yellow: 95
    Purple: 75
    Orange: 75
    Green: 50

Cut gems (varies based on cut)
    Red: 110-135
    Blue: 110-140
    Yellow: 100-130
    Orange: 85-110
    Purple: 85-110
    Green: 50-100

Assuming all honor (5 gems worth) is used on red/blue gems
    Uncut Value: 500
    Cut value: 550-675

Assuming all emblems are used for orange/purple gems
    Uncut value: 2250
    Cut value: 2550 - 3000

Purely using JC will net you about an extra 3250 gold per 10 heroics.
Selling gems uncut will net you approximately 2700 gold per 10 heroics

    Runed/Crusader Orbs
300 emblems is qeual to the following

    Runed: 17 (rounding up) = 1400
    Crusader orbs: 20 = 2200

Unlike gems, the value added for these items are quite a bit in conjunction with other items these specific values will be covered later.

    Frozen orbs
    10x Eternal Fire: 160
    10x Eternal Life: 130
    10x Frost Lotus: 150

    Crusader orbs: 1.6667 = ~183
    Runed orbs: 2.5 = 200

Alchemy can put the frost lotus to good use. Eternals and orbs are used in crafting recipes. These will yield higher overall profit with professions.

    Blacksmithing
    Crusader orbs
Assuming you have 20 crusader orbs.
The cheapest and best selling would be the bracers. The chests also sell well, but personally for me the cost to profit margin is not good enough to warrant making them (sell for 600g more, cost about 600g more to make >_>)

Cost to make: 4 crusader orbs, 8 titansteel bars, 20 saronite bars
Cost in gold: 0, 520 (65g on illidan), 32 (saronite bars, not ore and smelted which would be cheaper)
    Total cost in gold: 552
    Sells for: 1500-1600
    Profit: ~1000 gold
    4 crusader orbs = ~440

This item doubles the value worth, 6 gems uncut = 450, cut = 600. Overall profit. ~ 500 over JC

Takes 2 days max to sell

Cost to make: 4 crusader orbs, 8 titansteel bars, 12 Eternal Life
    Cost in gold: 0, 520 (65g on illidan), 120
    Total cost in gold: 640
    Sells for: 1500-1600
    Profit: ~900 gold
    4 crusader orbs = ~440

    6 gems uncut = 450, cut = 600. Overall profit. ~ 300 over JC

Cost to make: 4 crusader orbs, 8 titansteel bars, 12 saronite bars, 1 eternal fire
Cost in gold: 0, 520 (65g on illidan), 19.2(saronite bars, not ore and smelted which would be cheaper), 16
    Total cost in gold: 555.2
    Sells for: 1500-1600
    Profit: ~1000 gold
    4 crusader orbs = ~440

This item doubles the value worth, 6 gems uncut = 450, cut = 600. Overall profit. ~ 500 over JC

Takes 2 days max to sell

    Runed Orbs
ALL items cost: 6 runed orbs and 5 titansteel bars

    Total cost per: 300
    Selling price: 1300-1900
Profit Margin per item: over 1000 gold.

If you are a BS... your frozen orbs go to this. PERIOD. I normally can sell tanking or DPS boots/belt in under 2 days for 1750 gold a 1400g profit. IT IS A GOLD LOSS TO DO THIS OVER GEMS UNLESS YOU CAN GET MORE MONEY.

Simply put... look on the ah for low priced frozen orbs, even if they are 20g per that turns to be 80g per item

Cost to make that way: 780
    Sells for: 1300-1900
    Profit Margin: 550+ gold

    Enchanting
Simple... look on AH, find expensive recipes, get them... make them on w/e scrolls you need to and put em up.
Alternately infinite dust can be used for tailoring.

    Tailoring
Normally i can end up with 1-2 stacks of cloth per heroic. So i'll assume i get like 15 stacks total. Total bolts = 60

Enough for 5 frostweave bags which sell for 45g on my server.

Alternately the bolts turned into imbued can be used for spellweave and such. Spellweave is best due to bejeweled wizards bracers The frozen orbs can be used for eternals for these if you feel it is best use.

    Crusader orbs
For these i'm going to just do a cost analysis based on buying the spellweave... as it's really cheap on my server. This will depend on your server. Might be more profitable to use frozen orbs and such to make em.

Cost to make: 4 crusader orbs, 1 red gem, 1 blue gem, 1 green gem, 8 spellweave
    Cost in gold: 0, 100, 100, 50, 160
    Total cost in gold: 410
    Sells for: 1200-1600
    Profit: ~1000
    4 crusader orbs = ~440

This item doubles the value worth, 6 gems uncut = 450, cut = 600. Overall profit. ~ 400 over JC

    www.wowhead.com/?item=ITEM=47588
Cost to make: 4 crusader orbs, 12 moonshroud
    Cost in gold: 0, 220
    Total cost in gold: 220
    Sells for: 900-1300
    Profit: ~800
    4 crusader orbs = ~440

Don't make many of these... its not that much extra profit and takes longer to sell than bejeweled

    Runed orbs
These do not sell well, do not bother.

    Leatherworking/Skinning
If you are a skinner (which you should have one, each mob you skin is worth at least another gold to your overall total)

To be honest the crusader orb items and runed orb items don't sell very well on illidan, i don't use this much. I do however make the leg armors. Depending on the instances depends on how much leather you get obviously. VH is super for this type of thing.

Each leg armor you can afford to make is worth an extra 150g to you. So thats every 6 stacks of leather. Or if you get lucky and pull a few arctic fur. On average this won't add THAT much to your overall but i wouldn't discount it either.

I'd say overall skinning/leatherworking is worth maybe an extra 250-300g per session of 10 heroics depending on luck of the draw.

It's not chump change so you should definately have it.

To be fair the leatherworking items do sell for upwards to 2k gold, and the runed orbs one can sell decently and fetch nice profit margin (example: deathwarmed belt costs like 200g, over your orb costs, and sell for 1800, less than BS but sell less frequently)

You can try other items like ice striker's cloak and other beginner BOE's but i've had little success with them and sometimes they can be a complete waste of mats and end up getting given away or DE'd.

    Alchemy
If using frozen orbs for frost lotus you have enough to make... 10 flasks worth

10 flasks = 20 flasks with no proc... with 15% proc rate you get like an extra 4 per 10 flasks you make or w/e...
    Total made: 24
    Total value: 408
Costs: 20g (icethorn) 45g (lichbloom)... i make frost wyrm.
    Total costs: 65
    Total profit: 343
    Profit over selling orbs: 143g

This is mainly used to create titanium bars and make titansteel. Extra procs are a godsend at saving money.
