Thread: pally vs dk

    Default pally vs dk

as a tank my pally is pretty beefed up, 5k gear score and he takes no damage doing 5 mans unless it's a boss...

But im leveling a DK to tank with also, he's only 71 but he takes alot of damage compared to what i remember the pally taking at that level.

Do DKs just not have mitigation like pallys do? or am i just used to easy mode?

I have my macro setup for aoe tanking on the DK and he has no problems keeping aggro, but it just seems like he takes alot of damage, more than a tank should, and the only skill i have to pop is the icebound fortitude or whatever it is.

This normal for a lvl 80 DK also?

Let them hate, as long as they fear.

DK's can't block, and Block is really crazy OP in 5 mans. Your DK will always take more damage than your paladin in any tanking scenario. It's just the difference in mechanics.

well that sucks, but he does pump out dps while tanking so that's cool.
One more question on you DK tank users, what do you use as a tanking weapon? 2 one handed weapons that have + defense or a 2h weapon that has a ton of stamina?

So do Pallies, with a lot less micro involved.

I always loved using 2 weapons when using my DK. Thought it just looked cooler, anyways, you probably want to use a 2h weapon, the reason is that the hit cap is a lot lower.

I dunno what everyone has a problem with, i made a simple cast sequence macro that i just mash with my "big button" just like on my pally and it makes my dk aoe tank, i'll post it when i get home, the only thing that slows it down is using death and decay, which i rarely use anyways since my macro does aoe tanking.

very little micro managment required, like tanking with a pally as far as the buttons i press

Would be very curious to see your DK macro...
    Cranky old-timer.

Same here. My DK does D&D, HB, BB, FS, BB,HB,BB,FS,FS repeat, which puts him at 2k+ on any multibody pull, but doesn't really compare with my pally doing 3-5k.

I basically gave up on my dk even with some semi decent gear he would get rnged on occasions where just no amount of healing would keep em up.

With the dk tanking 1-3 target isnt to bad but once yeh get more then that it gets painful.

When I had my pali and dk where equally geared my pali had better survivability then my dk
