I've tried the leave-wow-for-something-new thing, including Star Wars Galaxies. That lasted a month before I was trying to find someone to just give away my account to and looking at re-activating my WoW accounts.

Diablo III and StarCraft II are the only near-future PC games that I can see eating a substantial amount of my time. I'm letting others try out Aion first and let me know what their impressions are before I even try toying with the beta. One thing that I don't like it is will be open PvP on all servers even at release. I'm not a fan of random gankings when I'm just on for a little bit trying to get something accomplished.

To restate my concern for any new game I play: content, content, content. Aion looks really nifty and all, but if it doesn't have fun content, I'm not playing it. I don't care how awesome my casting animation and gear looks.

Cataclysm should be interesting both from the advanced storyline and the fact that they are resdesigning the old world quite heavily. The new races will give me something new to play with. I don't really get tired with the grind, as I pace myself and try not to make it feel like work. My only problem is getting into too much of a routine by setting schedules with others for when to help them get something done (daily heroics).

I know how you feel. I worked at a little cafe for a couple months a few years ago and made my own mochas every day I was there. Can't stand to have someone else make them anywhere now. Not even Starbucks.

Same here. I've tried many games out both on the PC and Xbox 360 and if the game doesn't have just enough or the right things to keep my attention, I'll put it down and never touch it again. I've even done this when getting half way through some games. I just get to that point in the game and it just totally looses me or my interest.

Doh! Guess I have to wait a whole year before I can get me some Starbucks from you!

I'm actually looking forward to seeing some of the old content re-worked, but I'm really not looking forward to another level - gear up - get bored cycle, and I see nothing radically new in the expansion to alleviate that.

I guess I'm just all WoWed out. Again.

The damn expansion video was the only reason I started playing again. I'm looking forward to it, content and races and all.

While I am looking forward to it I am at the same time dreading it.
I really hope that all the new stuff will be top quality, I liked WOTLK when it came out, it was fun somewhat refreshing but still lost its bang at about 74....8 hrs a level for what, all of the same with more gothic graphics?
    No ty.
It caused my wife to stop playing especially after getting Server First Enchanter fun but want to see burn out see a 72hr rush to be "The first " on a given server, it caused me to become excessively bored with the game (pre boxing)
I even tried Lotro (sooo wow similiar) and Eve...

As to the question what are we looking for? Well I for one am looking for the thing I found by multiboxing...Solo capability, no I don't mean I go solo Hogger because I massively overpower him, and no I don't mean grind and solo dailies. I mean SOLO I miss the games like Legends Of Kesmai (Islands of Kesmai as well) off Gamestorm, even Asheron's Call was good despite it's inhereint terribleness. I shouldn't have to get 4 other accounts to supplement my want to see 2/3 of the game. If I could find something 1/2 as decent I would replace WoW quickly. I remember EQ2 and had the same problem. I do enjoy boxing, but it now feels as if it is something that I HAVE to do in order to solo/progress.

But other that the xpac does look interesting and I will buy it until someone proves they have a "superior" game and not just a clone with different names/graphics. I agree with the poster a couple pages back, alot of formula to the games lately.

the expansion coming is one of the reason I let my subs lapse... why bother gearing my level 80s when I'll get 85 blues that are better (I assume - or 85 wellfare pvp epics) - this being said I do look forward to the new 1-60 quests in the remodeled, flyable old world

in the meantime aion is keeping me busy (I don't know how long that will last though)

Every game goes in cycles, doesn't matter what we play.

For a while the game is new and exciting.
After a while, we have had too much and its the same thing over and over.
The healthy solution is to take breaks when you need them.
That can mean another game, or no game and a break from the computer perhaps.

Pretty much over the summer, I do seasonal work, and am online maybe once every two or three weeks.
That has managed to keep Warcraft (and Everquest before it) much more enjoyable.

You can look at any game as the same thing over and over.
Most of the games have similar objectives... level up... gear up...
In wow there are two gearing up progressions and two factions.
You could theoretically play an alliance PvP composition and a radically different horde PvP composition.
You could also do a PvE for each faction.
Predominantly casters vs mostly melee or a mixed team are other options to keep it mixed up.
Doesn't have to even be wow specific, going with different options in the game of choice will help keep it fresh.

I'm really looking forward to Diabo III and Starcraft II.
I'm still playing warcraft, and hope to have two more teams (Druids @60th and Warlocks not yet made) join my existing teams at 80th (Pally/Shammies @80th and a mixed team in the upper 70's).
Either D3 or SC2 will be a welcome break from WoW.
Dungeons and Dragons every Saturday Fall-Spring (pencil and paper) is another gaming diversion from wow.
    Mix it up.. )
