If you have the mend pet minor glyph (there are 2, mending(major) and mend pet)(minor)), one adds happiness every tick of mend pet. I have NEVER fed my pet even after 9 deaths in a row with that. Sure they get yellow after so many deaths, but I just mend pet them and they get green al on their own. Also, tenacity (guard dog) ferocity (bloodthirsty) and cunning (carrion feeder) pets have talents that increase happiness also. With both of those, you should never have to feed your pet again, unless you only kill it and never mend it (or let it attack---with the talents version).
