When you're done editing it just sits there and you have to go find the thread again if you want to see your updated post. I guess it's for people who want to keep editing the same post?

When I edit something, it's default the quick editor, not the full blown advanced, this is intended. When you hit Save, it should refresh the page and show you the same page of the thread you were look at before you hit the edit button. If this is not what is happening, there is something not getting handled right on the browser. I'll go check the usergroups to make sure it's not a permission / usergruop setting.

Edit: there is nothing server side keeping the post edit function from working as described.
