Boosting?

I'm a noob when it comes to boosting, so can someone please explain to me how to do it in wow?

I read the wiki but it doesn't really tell you how to do it except if you are using at least two lowbies to kill world mobs using a pet. I would like to know how to do it dual boxing with 1 high level toon, and 1 low level. For instance do you just always have to tag the mob first with the lowbie then kill it with your high level or what?
