What is RAF?
Blizzard's Recruit-a-friend program is a way through which you may refer new people (or yourself) from an existing account to a new account through the use of a 10-day free trial key. To achieve the maximum benefits of the RAF program, however, it is necessary to upgrade this initial 10-day trial account to a full account.
A note on RAF terminology
The following terminology is used in this Wiki article on RAF:
- Veteran / Recruiter: the account that is used to recruit a friend (or yourself).
- Recruit: The account that is created using the RAF 10-day free trial key.
- RAF: Acronym for Recruit-a-friend.
The benefits of RAF
The benefits of the RAF program lasts 90 days from the initial creation date of the recruit account using the trial key. Note that RAF benefits are not available for characters that are level 60 or above.
Requirements
The following requirements must be met to take advantage of the RAF benefits detailed below.
- Each character must be below level 60.
- The characters of the recruiter and the recruit must be grouped together.
- The characters must be close to each other (exact distance unknown.)
- The quest or monster cannot be trivial (grey or green colored) for either character.
- The characters must be within 4 levels of each other.
Experience and reputation gain
Characters that meet the RAF requirements will receive 300% experience gain from all sources (including quest experience), and will also receive 10% bonus reputation gain.
Level granting
The recruit may grant levels to the recruiter, with the following restrictions:
- The recruit may grant one level for every two levels earned.
- The recruit may only grant 29 levels TOTAL.
- The recruit may only grant levels in-game, and must be near the recruiter's character to do so.
- The characters must be on the same realm and on the same faction.
- The recruit cannot grant levels to the recruiter's character if it is equal to or higher than the recruit's character level.
- The recruit cannot grant levels to a character that is level 60 or higher.
To grant a level, right-click the character portrait of the recruiter and select "grant level". The recruiter's character must then accept the granted level.
Summoning
Both the recruit and the recruiter may summon each other once per hour, and there is no range requirement.
Linking accounts for dual/multi-boxing
You can "Refer-a-friend" through the Account Management page "Recruit-a-friend" option.
An existing account can use this RAF option to send an email to a friend (or yourself) that contains a WoW 10-day free trial key. Upon the creation of a new WoW account using this key, the two accounts become "linked" for a period of 90 days.
Purchasing retail boxes (or serial numbers) independently and using them to upgrade the aforementioned trial account (created through the generated Recruit-A-Friend email) works fine.
Multi-boxers can use this linking system to their benefit, as detailed below.
Note: The 10-day trial account will be required to be upgraded to a full account, if you wish to continue playing past the 10-day trial period. Blizzard: Recruit-A-Friend FAQ
RAF Example Setups
One existing account, 4 referrals
1. Main refers all new accounts
Pros: Offers many granted levels to toons on your main account.
Cons: All 4 mounts can only be given to characters on your main account. You can't use your 70 main to boost.
2. Chain linking
X>A
A>B
B>C
C>D
Pros: Mounts on your first 4 accounts. You can use your main to boost. Main account gets mount. Levels are able to be granted to main.
Cons: ?
3. The Booster Method
X unlinked
A>B>C>D
Pros: You can boost your team! You can have a good friend do the initial refer for account A so they get a mount and your granted levels from that account.
Cons: Main account gets no granted levels, xp bonus or mount.
4. Chain linking 2
Credit to Ualaa -- he put this stuff together.. This is how it rolls.
That is 6 toons, or (6×30) 180 levels to grant.
A Has 0 RAF Toons and a Booster.
B Has 6 Toons and grants A 180 levels.
C Has 6 Toons and grants B 180 levels.
D Has 6 Toons and grants C 180 levels.
E Has 6 Toons and grants D 180 levels.
But we have cascade linked our accounts into a chain.
B Has received 180 levels from C and can give an extra 90 levels to A
C Has received 180 levels from D and can give an extra 90 levels to B
D Has received 180 levels from E and can give an extra 90 levels to C
And…
B Has received 90 more levels from C and can give 45 more to A
C Has received 90 more levels from D and can give 45 more to B
And…
B Has received 45 more levels from C and can give another 22 to A.
So A in total has 180+90+45+22… 337 levels.
Level your characters on A to level four on six characters, you just saved 24 granted levels. Leaving you 336 levels to grant, to get 6 level 60's on account A.
Why did I want F ? Because the way im leveling right now I have A - B - C - D - E... (five accounts I want to use, and wanted full toons). Well this blows ass because now I really am leveling 9 level 60's on account E. If I added one more account for junk. I would get a free level 60 on E (the one I want to keep) for every two I level on F. So this would save me boosting 3 characters to 60 -- or about 30 hours. You will have plenty of characters :P don't worry. I do quests on mine till about level 15 when i can summon. So I save alot of levels that way,
RAF Questing
Questing with 2-5 accounts using the RAF bonus can yield extremely high Experience Per Hour if done correctly:
- Avoid collection quests, as these require you to gather the quest items 2x-5x (extremely time consuming.)
- Focus on "kill" quests and quests that can be done easily with 2+ grouped characters.
Questing Guides
A guide for leveling 2, 3, 4, or 5 Alliance or Horde characters via RAF questing has been constructed using the addon TourGuide, and can be found and downloaded via the following thread: Horde and Alliance Multi Boxing RAF 1-60 Leveling Guide

Tips

- Do cloth hand in quests (a donation of .....) at any of the major cities. They are all considered level 60 quests so if you wait til mid 50's with tripxp it will help speed your way thru some levels. I do this for two full level from 53-55. You need 15 stacks of wool, silk, mageweave and runecloth. 3 each for the 5 factions. IF and Org each host two factions, make sure to find them both...err find link to list of turn in quests with items that can be bought... -Wallshot
- Most, if not all?, class quests remain yellow no matter the level reached (at least till level 49 when i did them) so use them to your maximum advantage. The steps give like 15,000xp on most of them at that level. -Wallshot
- When you use RAF to grant levels to your vet account, that the experience on that char levels with you percentage-wise? This means that if your lvl 1 character has 99% experience and only needs one more kill to level up, you can then grant them 59 level to level them up to 60. Once they hit 60, you can check their experience and you'll see that they're STILL at 99% which means that 1 quest should be enough to make them 61. This effectively means that you only need to do 9 levels in Outland instead of 10, saving you roughly the time of gathering 500k experience. -Wallshot
- If you grant levels for an account that was chain linked to another veteran account, those free 30+ levels can be passed on for another free 15 levels to that veteran? -Wallshot
- Once you are friendly with the Argent Dawn you can also turn in 60x Crypt Fiend Parts, Savage Fronds, Bone Fragments, Dark Iron Scraps and Core of Elements for 28650 XP each with the RAF bonus (9550 w/o). This is 143250 total, more then a full level. Doing the Cauldron and Araj quests will get you to friendly and is worth a large amount of XP as well. -Wallshot
- If you grant levels to a level 1, you wasted yourself you a HUGE amount of time. Why? Because using recruit-a-friend on two new account characters both on separate accounts but linked, they level to 10 in about 20 minutes. To level 30 (for me) in about 4 hours. So it make sense to use your raf granting on characters that are level 20 to 30. The 99% is only beneficial if your character will be level 60 at the end of all of your grants. Why? Because whether or not you go out and kill the final target at level 1 (if you're granting levels that will place you under level 60) or kill the final target at whatever your level will be after granting, it doesn't matter. You're still at the same place. You still have one to kill to get your level. If your grants will take you to level 60, then by all means have your experience bar at the highest you can get it prior to doing the grants. -Wallshot
Questing vs. Boosting
Mercurio's Alliance Boosting 4 Toons with a 70 vs. Leveling 5 at once
Leveling 5 at once: 0-60 in 2 days, 4 hours /played
Boosting 4 toons with a 70: 0-60 in 16 hours, 2 minutes /played
Details of boosting: 1-15: Boosted other 4 with my 70 hunter for run speed boost (questing) 16-20: Stockades boosting with my 70 pally 20-45: SM Cath with my 70 pally (tried ZF, Temple, SM was still way faster from 40-45) 45-59.98: Strat undead side with my 70 pally 59.98 - 60.98: granted one level from 2 of my 4 boostees (after dinging them 60 seperately) to the other two
Ornate's Horde Boosting 3 Toons with a 70
What I did, as 3x horde RAF linked accounts and a 70 protection paladin to boost:
1-10: Quested, was level 10 before I was finished with level 6 quests. 10-20: SFK, at level 18 got the three SFK quests and completed those, turned them in just in time to ding 20. 20-43: SM Armory and Cathedral, got and completed the SM quest at level 30 and turned it in at 43. 43-51: Zul'Farrak, turned in quests at 51 to get a bit into 52. 52: BRD pre-req quests (gathering elemental stuff near Flame Crest, killing Overmaster Pyron, the first "Kill on Sight" quest, Commander Gorshak and follow-ups that lead to assignment to kill the Emp" - This was enough to get to 55. 55 (needed 55 for the Molten Core attunement quest): A full BRD clear, completing all quests. This got me to 58. 58: The easier Stratholme quests (Archivist, Plagued Flesh, Scourge Data, Fras Siabi). This got me to nearly 60. Remaining XP from 59-60: The 30-item turn ins for Marks of Crusade and Marks of Dawn at LHC. I had collected all of these doing BRD and Stratholme.
I had 3 characters being boosted, so nearly always had room for 1 in the group. Dinged 60 in 1 day 7 hrs played - I think I could do better doing it a second time, spent at least a couple of hours setting up my macros and keyclones, as the leveling characters just stood in xp range until Stratholme.
As a little note, one of the characters I was leveling is a warlock. She hadn't done any of her pet quests, except for the imp. I went and did a couple at level 60 and got full XP as if it were a level 60 quest. One should consider that if leveling a team of warlocks with RAF & boosting.
ChaoticMonk's Alliance Questing and Boosting with a poorly geared 70
My pally isnt greatly geared so I have issues when it comes to boosting past SM. So far I've been doing the following:
1-10: Quest 10-16: Deadmines 16-23: Stockades (I stayed until 22 so I could complete the quest given just outside stockades which got me to 23) 23-40: SM Armory/Cath (Armory-Cath-Reset-Cath-Armory-Reset & repeat) 40-45: STV Quests 45-49: Tanaris Quests + 1 ZF run to complete quests 49-52: Searing Gorge Quests 52-54: Burning Steppes 54-56: BRD (Only did the beginning part to complete the earlier quests) 56-60: WPL+EPL+half Scholo run.

Jhuesse's Power Level + 4 Alts Set Up
If your main account is X and your new accounts are A B C D:
X unlinked
A->B->C->D
Granted levels to A B and C. Main account gets no granted levels, xp bonus or mount, but can boost. A B and C get mounts. This can also be combined with having someone else invite A in the first place, so they can get granted levels, mount, and a bonus when with you, but your 70 can boost your other 4 effectively too. I am doing this.
