Default slave running off into horizon trouble..

I think i remember reading about the slave running in circles or off into distance somewhere in posts but i don't seem to find it.

here is the problem. sometimes, usually when i move the cursor from master window to slave window while running, the slave just keeps running. sometimes the esc button will sotp him. sometimes hitting the /follow key will. but nothing seems to "always" stop him.

does anyone know of a reliable way to stop a runaway slave? it is very annoying to be in a group and have to say "wait. i have to try to stop my slave" lol

    thx for any help

The Run-Aways (Collecting Data) <-- the thread you're probably thinking of.

As for stopping 'em, do you have a "spread formation" key? If not, set one up and then you can just tap that or your /follow key and they'll come back.

For me lag has always been the cause of runaway slaves; usually after stopping follow.

Try turning down all your gfx settings (esp. view distance) and see if it helps.

Also make sure you're not sending movement keys to the slave when you shouldn't be.

With a strobed follow I've had them go into an "orbit" so to speak... running effectively figure 8's around the leader... this was most amusing when I was running 2 mages and a pally... the two mages running circles arcane exploding around teh pally consecrating created a very interesting effect.... I tried to duplicate this on command thinking it would be hard as hell to defend against the randomspazoid mages in PVP but couldn't.

Are you holding a key while you move the cursor from one window to the other? If so, there's your problem. If you want to change windows while moving, turn on autorun, or just stop pressing any key until the new window is fully active.

yes it happens when i am holding the "w" key and running forward. however when i stop doing that it takes forever to stop the slave. yes i know, don't hold run button when switching screens but sometimes in heat of battle i forget. question is when i forget and do t he no-no, how can i stop the slave quickly? should i move the cursor back to main? or what

Move the cursor to the offending screen and the press(and release) the button that causes the problem. In the case of the 'w' running forward, swith back to the main screen and tap 'w' until your toon behaves again. My other suggestion would be to stop using 'w' to move. Use the mouse.

This is just one reason why a multibox team isn't as effective as 5 cooperating individuals.

Or if you really want to use w to move, just do what i have done and unbind wasd on the alts.
Sure that mean i have to mouse move whenever an alt is being used as main, but it saves me from worrying about broadcasting those keys and i also dont have to set them to do-not-pass, so i can effectively use /commands on all characters at once.

One of my slaves ran from IQD and ended up dead in the ghostlands without me knowing... :S
