Default What is the minium hardware setup for a 5 box

    Hi Multiboxer
I am thinking about going to a 5 box, I am currently play a dual box setup with 2 locks. This is my current setup
    MSI p6n platinum 650i
    Intel e2160 1.8 overclock to 2.8
4 GB of OZ 4-4-4-15 Ram
2x MSI 8600GT 512 running in Dual monitor mode expect when I am play a First Person shooter, then I switch to SLI mode
    2x WD 500 in Raid 0
    2x 19" monitor 1680x1050
    Window Vista 64 SP1

Will this setup be powerful enough to run a 5 box
Running Main with 1024x768 (40 fps)and all my alt at 800x600(20fps)
I am using mulitboxer V2 and Octopus to multibox

I also have the option to run Tri box on this system and off load a Dual box on an old system I have lying around
    Amd 3200xp
    2 g memory
    360 gb hd.
    Nvidia 7600 GS 512
    Window XP SP3
    17 in 1280x760 monitor

I also want to know if I will be better off with a Q6600 cpu, a faster Dualcore CPU, or put in 4 more G or RAM, or getting a powerful video card.

I want to get the best bang for my buck

Thks for any help or suggestion.

Suggestion #1- Post in the hardware forums.

Suggestion #2- Quadcore CPU for 4-5 boxing (speed of cores is really irrelevant for most bang for the buck, just need more discrete processing units, a Q6600 is great value). 4+ GB. 8800 or better video card.

5-boxing with this setup works great, but can chug a little in towns and heavy BGs. It's a perfect quadbox setup, though.
    Cranky old-timer.

Myself, I transfered from 3 and 4 boxing on a single pc with one monitor to 2 computers.

Now I`m 4 or 5 boxing with my slaves on my pc and main on my laptop. No mather what you do I feel the need to recommand to keep atleast your main on a single monitor. Working with split screens is a bitch and everything gets to small.

About your system, I 4boxed with far less. It worked for me but not optimal offcourse. So it`s more then possible.

I'm 5 boxing on my laptop. It's an HP dv6700.

    Duo CPU T5450 1.66 ghz
    Vista Home Premium 32 bit
    4gb ram
    Nvidia GeForce 8400M GS

I have all graphic settings in game on low. My alt toons fps are capped at 20 using keyclone. Sound is disabled on all 5 instances. I noticed a big improvement in performance when I switched back to 1 wow folder. When I used mutiple folders follow would break in cities, the game would run choppier in cities, and the load times for stuff like blimp rides was much much longer.

I get some lag in Org but almost never break follow on my toons. I use keyclone with maximizer. I set it up with one large "window" for the main and 4 small "windows" stacked vertically on the right side of my screen for the followers. I autohide my taskbar and use my entire screen but made sure not to overlap my 5 wows on the screen. PIP switches almost instantly. Generally it runs all 5 pretty well but this might be about the minimum hardware setup.

from my own experience, it seems the CPU is the limiting factor when you go above 1 wow per core (with a e6700 @ 3.33 ghz)... 4 instances on a 1920x1200 screen got me about 30FPS if i recall under Vista 64 with a 8800 gts... pretty lousy.

really I'm only happy with refresh rate FPS so I was dissapointed when I bought a 280 GTX and couldn't even get that for 2 instances, again under Vista64 (main on 1920x1200, 1x alt on 1280x1024). Vista is just shit for FPS, that's my conclusion since even my 7800 GTX got better FPS under XP!

i dunno about those 8600's, but i'd get a quad core!

found this in an old posting

My journey handleveling 5x shamans using RaF and one weak computer

    Hardware
    2ghz single processor
    2gb ram
    Nvidia 6600 GT
    Two 19" flatscreens
Going into orgrimmar really screws up my shitty comp but I have no troubles questing, going to questhubs, thunderbluff - it runs good enough for me to
have no issue with it. I am now level 56 with all my 5 characters since a week back (I haven't been able to play since last tuesday) and I did 1-56 from friday-tuesday,
long sittings which frankly made me stop for a while to sort other things out. Only about 2 days and a few hours played which is faster then I ever anticipated since this
is my first time around multiboxing.

give me hope my current setup will be good enough for a 5 box.
