    Rets are more than fine in instances.
    You won't have an issue healing an appropriately geared tank, with a Pally healer.

    If you want to play Pallies, go for it.

    The critical point here is "Pally healer." If you go 4 rets, in my experience you will NOT be able to adequately heal a decently geared tank. If your tank is way overgeared for the content, you may be OK.

    Why not 5? Good choice as paladin is one of the two classes capable of performing well in all aspects of the game (Tank/DPS/Heal).

    The OP's comment referenced healing a tank from LFD. Presumably, this is a question that questions if they'd be viable having tanks from the dungeon finder tool while having a healer as the 5th in arenas/rated BGs.
