Six (or 4 or 8) smaller in a Raid is obviously faster then one big one.

The same should hold true for 6 seperate. You have 6 times the controller chips, 6 times the data lines (although they all feed the same buss), 6 times the cache......

I can only see 6 small being faster then one big.

what about this beast compared to six smaller ones with way less speed

i think im going to order this beast ...

    OCZ IBIS 240 GB HSDL reads @ 740 MB/s and writes @ 720 MB/s

unless you think it would be noticable different to get six small ones running at slower speeds by far

    OCZ Vertex 2 60 GB x 6

do you think i would notice much difference either way considering the big one is way faster?
if not one would sure be a lot more handy and clean looking in a case

That is super nice for sure.

I doubt those 6 would be much if any faster then that nice big one, which as you say takes up a lot less space. The six small would be 360G vs 240G though ...

Either way you are doing good.

The single one would have more bragging rights though, you would probably be the first with it.

My ocz revo is 488MBS so yours will be well faster.

    .
Except that 6 (or 4 or 8) SSDs are going to fragment (and therefore degrade performance) faster due to the lack of TRIM aren't they?

They have something that is not trim though

Just endless argument, to me bottem line is not to worry about it.

fragmentation on an SSD? wat? No.

While 6 smaller SSDs will be faster than one, they may be limited by other factors.

As far as LOTRO, haven't you experimented with symlinks? Why couldn't you do six folders with the main data folders symlinked into one?
