anyone buying sandy bridge?

Just curious if anyone will be jumping on the new intel processors codename "sandy bridge". Intel is supposed to release information about it jan. 5, 2011 at CES.

I seen pics of people hitting 4Ghz - 4.5Ghz on just air and still it runs fairly cool. I got a birthday coming in jan. as well and might treat myself to some new computer parts. I am still on a Q6600 @ 3Ghz and it is starting to show its age for my daily tasks. So I am hoping the motherboard companies and intel do not price gouge everything and it will cost me an arm and a leg.

anyone seen any leaked comparisons between the i7-950 and the new sandy bridge chips? I heard they are on the same type of die (westmere?) so just curious if I should just get a i7-950 setup or just wait?

I would be curious to see those pics of people overclocking Sandy Bridge since I've only seen one actual review of it myself,
Intel is apparently trying to shut down all OC'ing of non "K" processors; but, people can reach 4GHz on air right now with
Nehalem/Lynnfield/Bloomfield/Gulftown/Westmere as it stands.

32nm is always sexier than 45nm but I'm holding off on the first gen SNB stuff. You won't see Socket 1356 [unconfirmed]
until later 2011 which is what will bring back the triple channel memory and "performance" processors [and maybe the
unnecessary PCIe 3.0?]. If you look at the roadmap, SNB will first release the "mid-range" i5/i7 line up, but nothing
performance-wise. I'm currently putting together a new machine and am hoping to land a 6 core 980X [or 990X ] to put
in this beast which will easily last me for a good bit. Mind you, this machine isn't just for multiboxing WoW.

As for pricing, Intel will continue to price gouge on everything they can as long as they hold the crown. It's funny you
mention that as I just read a 10 page thread on Anandtech about this the other night and when AMD was King [FX series
anyone?] those processors cost $500 - $1000 as well. I am, however, curious to see what AMD has up their sleeve for
their next line of processors [Bulldozer].

I was talking about the K version of processors when I seen the pics on Hardocp forums, sorry for the confusion.

I guess I will just get a i7-950 if the prices are right this christmas.

If you live near a Microcenter, you can pickup an i7 950 for about $215 with tax [depending on your location].

I have microcenter 2hrs from my home, that is where I will be going to get the processor. Just wishing mobo prices would come down like memory has.
