    The 260 is a couple of generations ahead of the 8800GT, and is a nice upgrade from it. Depending on which version you get (the chip fab size) you may have some heat and power issues - I remember the earlier 260's were not so good when it came to those issues, but the later versions of the 260 went to a smaller fab size that was more efficient and ran cooler.

    Two generations ahead naming scheme wise, one generation ahead architecture wise.

    But, 260 as primary 8800 secondary, split rendering between them as you wish.
