Software distribution (selling, renting, ...) is most often covered in a different manner in the license than offering services (installing, troubleshouting, maintenance, ...). That being said, I've seen a good amount of proprietary software that limits the service providing to partners only. But then again, software licensing is quite obscure anyways. In this case I just outlined what I though would be legal/illegal, not so much my 'ideals' . The reality is that it's pretty harmless to burn the patch on a disc and send it to the OP, if I was an aussie I'd be happy to help him out.
Everything that is fun in life is either bad for your health, immoral or illegal!
You can install WoW on any computer from any CD/DvD. You can even download the installer. Blizzard licenses accounts and the "CD key" only adds a license to your WoW account. It doesn't not license your PC or installation at all.
So I see no problems in getting the patch from a friend on a dvd
