Changing a character is very messy on the WTF folder depending on the addons you use.

Many addons store in their own file something under the character name.

To be sure to get all you need to text search through the complete WTF directory and find/replace the old/new character name BEFORE you log on the first time with your new character name.

If you do this you have no problems at all.

My last experience a couple weeks ago with a paid name change was REALLY smooth. The folder names in WTF were changed automatically for me. All I needed to do was login, logout, log back in and load settings from the old character name for Dominoes, Xperl, everything else wasn't really affected.

If you do this you have no problems at all.

You actually have two choices:

1) Copy the profile of the old toon from within the addon, if avail.
2) Copy the account AND character saved variable luas to the new toons' account and character saved variable and modify the macros individually. You just need to make sure that you login your new toons first then logout before copying.

The first option is what I use when I create new toons. The second option is what I use when I overhaul my entire UI/settings. 99% of the time I don't have to make any specific changes outside of macros... And it works! Just be sure to cleanup afterwards, deleting the old toon's directory in WTF/AccountName when you're done.
