I brought my shammies on a pug raid that required linked achievement, was quite entertaining to finally finish after a few wipes and see the douche that was spamming trade forever gain a new completion achievement...now I just respond to the trade spam with show me yours I'll show you mine.
I've found that later in the wow week (especially monday night) most pug leaders are more and more desperate, and will let anyone in. I've even seen specific "alt runs" where they simply want to know your own level of skill/experience just so they know how to fill out the raid, and to what extent they need to explain fights to people.
I've even got all 5 of my PvP geared shaman into a VoA 25 on a monday right after we took over WG, and all 5 of me got the achievement each time.... I even got an item for my resto offspec. I tried to do 5 of a 10 man, but they were trying to do Koralon with only one tank, and 2 healers, and needless to say, that it wasn't nearly enough, and theres so much movement required in that fight, my dps was severely gimped, and due to lack of healers, i was spammin chain heals during the mass aoe phase, so i ran oom rather quickly.
This...
There was some idiot spamming chat looking for a pug for naxx25, wanted the achievement or superior to get onto the raid. So I checked him out on armory and both wow-heroes and be.imba... he had a couple of greens a few blues and the rest were iLevel 200 epics. so he failed his own superior check... so I checked out his achievements next and he hadnt even cleared naxx10...
So I sent him a /w telling him that he was a bell end and slapped him on ignore.
I dont pug with my pally healer these days... but I will pug with either my shaman or my hunter, otherwise it is too much effort and too much grief.
When people were big into the "LFM: Naxx, must have achievement" BS, I'd log on my bank alt with the achievement-faker mod and send him a tell linking my "fully cleared" naxx achievement. Half the time they'd toss me an invite and I'd sit there until someone in the raid asked "why is there a level 5 in the raid?"
I agree with everyone here though, knowledge+skill can easily give someone +/- 2000 score. Last time I cleared 10m ToC normal we had 2 alts with blues (and one still had 3 greens) and it was still a full clear no wipes.
I prefer to play the odds, and a person with a 5k GS is much more LIKELY to be able to out-dps a person with a 4k gearscore. Of course there's no accounting for taste, but there is no way to tell who the better players are unless you know them, and that's why you always fiull a raid with friends and guildies first, and PuG the last spots with people from their GS.
If your GS isn't up to par, pad it with PvP gear, it is hella easy to get and way over budgeted on GS. A full DEADLY set is 4400 GS.. which is enough to get you into any raid on our server, except maybe ToGC.
