Using blizzard for AE farming (video)

I'm in the process of AE farming SM cathedral for XP and got annoyed with the wizards farming me instead - so I decided just for kicks to try and see if I could make something work with Blizzard / Rain of Fire instead of Arcane Explosion / Hellfire. And much to my surprise it worked rather well.

Looks good and yeah the aoe wizards in there definitely limited my pulls.

On any character with ground targeted skills I usually set camera view 5 to top down and then macro it into their GTAE skill. This way as long as your characters are all close to each other and facing the same direction you can pretty consistently click the same area. No channeling prevents you from beginning another channel early and wasting mana and the "!" keeps the ground targeting reticle toggled on even if you click repeatedly.

That being said, you can actually just dispel the fire aura off the scarlet wizards with your priest and do more damage with arcane explosion/hellfire.

Thanks for the tip - I actually haven't had issues targeting the same area as long as I refresh the camera angle (calling setview) before the pull which I always do when I hit my "follow" key anyway.

I don't actually click anything with the mouse on the minions - I have "X" (key down) configured to enable broadcasting and "X" (key up) configured to send a mouse click to the same location on the minions, that I target on my main screen. So while "X" is held held, the reticle on the minion screen will be on the same relative location as the mouse on my main screen and when released, the spell will fire.

About the wizards, my concern hasn't been the fire aura as much as the fact that they cast Arcane Explosion when the team is in range. Do you know of any way to prevent that?

That being said, I've actually come to prefer this method of AE'ing - at least for SM, because it uses less mana. After the demo-hotfix, I find that I spend almost as much time accumulating threat as actually doing damage and while the pack takes a bit longer to kill, that is offset by the less time I will be spend drinking after, so it feels pretty even. Also, there are no runners to deal with :-)

All in all, I think I prefer this method for Cathedral - but the flexibility of being able to run around while AEing and not worry about positioning and camera angles might make Arcane Explosion the better choice eventually.

Holy Nova on priest helped me counter the wizards aoe. and they die fast. So they would get one or two arcane explosions on my team if that, holy nova complimented my mages perfectly. But yea...mana intensive. I do want to try your method though, for larger packs.

almost makes me want to level up a tauren warrior, priest and lock and pause 3 of the mages

altho feels like alil bit of a waste because i already got a 60 warrior

how would you spec when doing this? i saw the mages spec

hard to tell. Was your tank level 42?

Yes, all chars are level 42 - although I used this method since level 39. The limiting factor was always the tank (or healer mana if you will). At 39 I usually stuck to pulls of around 8-10 mobs.

Hey fuzzy, this is my preferred method as well! Im trying to find a sweet spot for holding aggro without wasting too much time or oils.Do you have a specific number of shouts and oils that you drop before you start aoeing?

I'm not using oils - though I am using fire shield (Imp) and shield spike. I prefer to be on the safe side, but I don't have a specific number of shouts I do - it's more on an intuition basis :-)

now comes my other wonders

should i just stick with my 5mages(lv 26 atm) (to get gold for my level 60 warrior)

or should i boost up at Tauren warrior or druid, priest, warlock to try setup a team like this

guessing gettin 26 would take a day or so

Found my solution il just get tanking set for my DPS warrior thats 60 already


and use him to tank the dungeons for the 2 mages warlock, priest

reckon id get in trouble if i left party during the time my other chars kill the monsters?

Sure. This is my setup:

- Make a new custom hotkey ("X") and set the "execute a step when the hotkey is" to "pressed OR released"
- Set step 1 to do the following: Cast Blizzard / Rain of Fire on my mages and lock and enable mouse repeat on mages + lock (in that way, when I press and hold X, mouse repeat is activated and the blizzard/RoF reticle is shown on the slaves). While I hold down X, I can move the cursor in the main window and this will be replicated on my slave windows. That's how I target the spell.
- Set step 2 to send a left mouse click ("Mouse1") to the slaves and disable mouse broadcasting. That way the spell will be cast once I release the X button.

Does that make sense? I can send you some screenshots of my ISBoxer hotkey config if you want :-)

after reading your post I figured it out but I took it One step further and bound blizzard to the same key for my toggle broadcast. I made the key mirror to only my mage group also. So it’s Z (I used different key) down and hold, move mouse and click, release Z.

I'm not entirely sure at what level I started doing graveyard. I think it was at level 32 or 33. Until then I did RFK (piggy loop), though I didn't switch from arcane explosion to blizzard until I encountered the wizards in SM Cathedral.

How do you get the repeater to not pass through when keymaps are off?
