I'm levelling a solo mage for now, and been thinking about alts. I know it is a little early, but I was wondering, if (and when) I get to 60 with my mage, if boosting an alt by dual boxing would be worth it rather than solo leveling the alt? If so, what would be the quickest way for a level 60 to boost the alt? Do you run instances of a with them, or speed through quests?
Or would it actually be better just to reroll two alts?

I did notice that blizz cheated a little and nerfed XP when mob-tagging out in the world. In vanilla, as long as the low level hit something first, if someone else's pet killed it then it would still give the low level full XP. They nerfed this in (insert whichever boring expansion here) so I think the only ways to powerlevel an alt now are:
1) be a healer, especially a druid with thorns, and just heal them from out of group
2) run them through instances, but who knows if that's been secretly nerfed too

I suspect many of us are interested in this topic and will switch focus on to alts once our main teams are capped.
I believe several of us will be leveling lots of alts to 35+ for passive professions (and include at least some Warlocks for strategic summon locations).
The "best approach" answer for me will be what method gives the most level 35+ alts with the fewest average hours of effort per alt (with some consideration given to how much effort each hour is for a given method).
At this point the best approach I can think of so far is 4 Warlocks & a Priest healer as it seems low risk & low effort with easy/fast leveling. Basically just send pets to attack then dot and wand but certainly interested in other options (especially if it ends up with more alts at 35+ level with fewer hours of effort).
Assuming 5 or less accounts, if your goal is mass production of level 35+ alts, one consideration that needs to be given to using a level 60 main is that you only get 4 level 35+ alts when they hit 35 instead of 5 alts... To put that in perspective, if your goal was 20 level 35 alts you would only need to do 4 teams of 5 to 35 but leveraging a main would have to do 5 teams of 4 alts to get 20 so it would need to be well more than 20%+ faster to be more efficient (given that goal & those assumptions).
The other factor is that maybe only certain mains are viable for boosting lower level alts. I think Mages are a given but maybe also Paladins and/or Warriors can be decent but not really sure at this point for which classes are at least decent for boosting alts to level 35.
While not 60 yet, I power leveled my rogue with my three level 20 wand casters. They way I did it was (with my rogue out of group) drive with my rogue, tag the mob with an arrow shot, then I opened up with wands on my three mages to drop the mob.
Not sure why the pet method above didn't work but this method works like a charm and I never saw a drop in solo XP.
I have been doing much the same to boost. Tag the mob by the character being boosted then wand them down with mages. Works well as long as your boosted character can actually hit the mob. I have a lot of misses.Quote:

I know the issue with the character slot of the lvl 60 Denies other alts on that account. But one can correct that if the strategy it to lvl up multiple teams.
the basic point is what is faster? Grind the 5-man team to 60, or single lvl a booster (mage for exempel) boost the team and then correct the remaining slot taken by the booster, or perhaps the mage is part of the team.

The question here is more like: you have 5 accounts.
what is faster, level the team as a whole? Or level one to 60 and carry the team?
I am considering dropping two of my warriors and just leveling my war, priest and paladin together doing quests and coming back fro the other two, while at times it feels okay doing stuff, i feel like im going backwards most of the time.
Sorry to revive and old threat, but did we end up getting consensus on this? Is it faster to boost 3 accounts with a 60 mage or have a full team leveling together to 60?Quote:

1) Dungeon Boosting. Dungeon tagging is bannable, but it is the fastest possible way if you want to risk your account. I won't explain how to do it, but if you want an in-depth explanation, you can PM me and I will explain the method I used to use back before it was bannable!
You want a mage for this ideally, a warlock can work, as can a bear druid, paladin, or possibly even a warrior. Other classes won't work well. If you're going to do it as a druid, or as a warrior, get yourself green whelp armor. Trust me, this will be the most effective piece of gear you can use for this for druids and warriors. As a warrior you also want ravager axe, ideally with fiery blaze (alliance only). Green Whelpling Armor has like a 3% chance to put any mob under level 50 to sleep for 10s. This is basically a force multiplier for bear druids and warriors. It gives you a massive mitigation boost, considering you're going to want to pull a lot more mobs than you can actually hit at once. With ravager axe, green whelping may not be necessary, or desirable, but your mileage may vary. Warriors are simply the worst of the viable classes for this however, so, I wouldn't recommend warrior.
What you want to do, is just pull huge, but manageable groups of mobs, and kill them all as quickly as possible. Your lowbies will get a fraction of the XP they'd normally get, but, when you're killing 40-50 mobs in the time it takes a normal group to kill 5 or 6, you can see where the efficiency is. Mages and Warlocks will excel at this, because of their uncapped AOE abilities. Mages can literally pull almost the entirety of SM cath at once, and kill it in a matter of seconds.
2) Tap leveling, tap leveling is bannable in instances. It is fair game in the open world. This means that, any character that cons in XP range for the monster in question, can kill it after you've tapped it, and not hurt your XP.
This means that, you could have for example, a level 28 (or a group of 28's) outside of your group when you're level 20, killing green con mobs for you after you tag them.
I couple weeks ago, I was power leveling a mage up to 20, to catch up with the rest of my mages. I went to the crabs in westfall. My level 20 mages were all within XP range of the crabs, they were like blue/green. I took a level 12 mage, and would wand pull them to the other mages who would aoe them down. Full xp. Later when my mage was like 15, I was actually doing like 80-90k/hr like that.
Level 60's will be able to tap level on mobs as low as 48 I believe.
If you wanted like the ultimate way to level single or duo characters (open world elites would be good for this as well for larger groups). Park a mage at every major level break. Have a mage at like level 20, 30, 40, 50. Then bring that mage to tap level yourself with :) That might not be the ideal level break down, because the gap grows in levels as you go. IE, 60 can tap on 48's, 50 maybe on 40's, 30 on maybe 22's something like that.
3) High level healer out of group healing your ass. Druids are best for this. Paladins are also very good, but for different reasons. There are two ways to do this. The first method, and most obvious method is basically to heal as you go. You run around killing stuff, while the healer heals you. Works with both single target, and aoeing. The other, less obvious method, is to use the healer to body pull a huge number of mobs, and hold them for you. You tap them so they can't be stolen, and then work them down one at a time, or via aoe. Paladin is best for this method. This cuts down on the time you need to spend running, and mitigates other players in an area killing mobs, since you've got most of them tapped beating on your healer. Since the healer is generating enormous quantities of self threat via healing, you can often double down on DPS stats, and sacrifice survivability. This means as physical DPS you can go agi/str, while casters go int/spirit for better sustain. Another option is to do this with a tank as well, so you have a healer + tank combo which pulls a bunch of mobs and builds threat with shouts (no damage), and then you come in with your low level, and single target or aoe burn through everything. If you're single target, having an AOE ability that can hit a bunch of targets, like say a grenade, letting you tag everything. Some of these methods could be combined :) Like, having a tank+healer pull 50 mobs, you tag them with a grenade, and then a higher level character capable of tap leveling in that level range aoe's everything down for your boostee!

Thanks for the information! Are you sure it's a bannable offence to clear a dungeon with a level 60, while your alts are grouped? I get that if you do creative stuff like get the mobs low on HP and then zone out, that might be bannable, but if you just clear the entire instance with a mage while your minions are close enough to get XP (albeit a fraction of what they'd otherwise get) is that bannable?Quote:
