was 4x sorc but im thinking of going to 4x op if they fix follow
I'm planing this team composition:
Powertech - Tank
Sorcerer - DPS
Mercenary - DPS
Operative - Heal
Should I substitute a Sniper instead? to whom?
Companions:
Should I go for all DPS?
Mercenary/Commando are not good sustained PvE DPS.
The easiest DPS to manage will be marauder or juggernaut.
Marauders have among the highest if not the highest sustained DPS in the game currently with the annihilation trees and they do not have a resource that has to be managed the way a commando/mercenary does. Commando/Merc is burst, burst and more burst with dramatic DPS fall off in a sustained encounter. Marauder has a few seconds of ramp up and then it is just monster DPS all the way. Additionally you get the fourth class buff with a marauder.
The drawback is that it is melee and melee is not optimal for PvE boxing mechanics.
For fire and forget sustainable DPS Sorc/Sorc all the way. If you do not want double sorc, a sniper is your next best option.
Powertech is your best choice for a tank as they have the best tools to tank for a boxer in this game. Ranged tanking against anti melee encounters. Melee tanking for melee encounters. Charge for simple mobility, pull for splitting pulls, the best aoe threat generation for aoe pulls.
For healing, Operative is in my opinion far and away the best healer in the game currently. They only lack the absorb shield that Sorcs get, but you can handle that with your DPS sorc. Just set the tank as your focus and toss a shield onto the focus in your DPS rotation.
LoD has lots of MBers, you are most welcome.
Several guild members are doing 4X the same class and leveling each set up. Yet there are also people who are doing dissimilar classes.
Mercbeasts post is spot on.
Marauder + Jugg is pretty nice. I have a team like this.
Double Sorc is ok.... nice dps, but weaker than the "mage glass cannon" from WoW.
Powertechs... Mosg has a team of these right now, and he is stupid crazy BOSS.
I'm currently working on 4x Sorcerers instead of the Powertechs. The dps is probably double the Powertech's. I'm very happy with them so far.
Keep in mind, all this will change.. i say play what feels good to you. this game just came out. I'm sure they will be balancing and adjusting DPS up and down for years to come! Sorcs are the closest thing to shaman in WoW. Lightning and heals. They also have a 1 minute ranged CC. However, no tank if your playing 4. Has anyone done 1 Jug or PT and 3 sorcs?
With a Jug as tank, you can CC up to 3 targets ( so no AE agro needed for non boss encounters ) and just burn them down one at a time.
For pure PvE rape I'd go with 1 PT 3 Sorcs.
For pure PvP rape I'd go with PT's Sentinels or Juggs. The autofollow fix MIGHT readjust this but charging/leaping makes all the difference and mashing your follow while meleeing people down mitigates most of the follow issues.
Marauders also put ou relativelyt extensive self/group healing. Right now my usual DPS/healing numbers while playing a very objective centric playstyle is 200-250k DPS and 50k healing per Sentinel (not including my reusable rakata heals)
Personally my next project is going to be either double Vanguard (powertech) or Vanguard/Scoundrel to attempt hardmodes with DPS companions.
I am also relatively certain we can get sort of a ghetto IWT going for PvE melee DPS trains having melee DPS follow your tank and assist off of your tank! PT/Jug move via charge, and DPS adjusts likewise but will also follow if their charge is not up.
This would let you drive an all melee team in PvE with your healer which in my perspective would be the ideal method to control a team as you get the best situational awareness.
Once they fix the follow bug, I agree that melee teams will be 110% viable--Especially those with a leap or pull ability. With your alts moonwalking every time you hit follow they frequently don't get into melee for me atm.
I put my jump break on a delay so it only passes once every 4 seconds. Keeping the target snared + leaping I get pretty good time on target with my sentinels. You can get even better time on target if you run the combat/carnage line which gives you a run speed boost.
My commandos are good but people quickly identified the insane spike DPS they could do and now in WZs they just get chain interrupted against anyone who is aware of my team.
Thank you for your inputs
I prefer long range characters because it's more relaxed to play. Good thing a Powertech is a long range tank. I really like mix classes now so that I can learn all of them. Maybe when I get tired of the long range team I'll setup a Melee team.
Tankless 4 Sorc is interesting but I'm not sure if it's feasible in Hard mode at high levels.
So I should trade Merc to Sniper. I really like the missiles from Merc but if a Sniper is more effective in DPS boxing wise then I'll go with it. How's the Sniper DPS by the way, PVE wise?
Is there a Species preference per class like WoW or its just pure cosmetics?
Good to know Operative is a good choice for healing. How's Operative DPS by the way. Will it be better if I make him DPS and the Merc as healer rather than getting the Sniper?
Will you still need a healer if you have PT+3Sorc Just like in WoW 1tank + 4 Ele Shamans in Hard modes?
Can one of you guys boxing 4 post a how to keymap setup for swtor?
Operative/Mercenary DPS is actually lowish in a sustained fight. They will be bottom tier of the DPSable classes. Their mechanic retards their ability to sustain a high DPS rate in long encounters.
Marauders and Juggs are great because they have limitless power. Sorcs are good because they have limitless DPS power. Snipers are good because they are slightly better than Operatives in sustained DPS.
I figure there are probably 2 top end PvE groups for hardmodes. 3 Sorc 1 PT or 2 Sorc 1 PT 1 Scoundrel for healing. Sniper might be interesting, but most hardmodes require some movement and snipers are pretty static when doing max DPS.
Just a reminder, that while the above is true, they are re-balancing the classes so pick what you feel would work for you and, while it might not be the best now, it should improve in time.
Btw, my main is a Sith Assassin (solo played), Tank spec'd, and it does very well in this roll and can spec out to dps if needed. Dark charge's lightning discharge, AOE strikes, AOE taunt, setup CC (think rogue sap) single target force pull. I can tank for PUG's very well if the group has some common sense and gives me a second to build hate before unloading on the group of elites. So this assassin coupled with multiple sorcs could prove very viable.
Honestly, with the high DPS Inquisitor companions like Xalek, Ashara and and Andronikus Revel, I never see myself needing a full group. Maybe I wont be able to do heroic 4's but then again the mechanics in many of those would prove difficult (maybe not impossible) for boxers so my boxing interest is for 2 man heroics and below. I have my guild for anything else :)
Another thought is that Ive heard guild makes commenting on seeing level 45+ Operatives soloing champion mobs in heroic 4 man content. If you can do that then any thing else boxed with that would be just gravy.
I'm currently operating two at a time. I have two of my accounts as ranged, and the other two accounts are melee. I settled on picking one from each, to level with. Goes SOO much faster when you arent chasing people all over the place. Melee leaps in, gets aggro, and the ranged blows shit up. Use a companion for each, one dps companion and one heals / dps... then go farm Heroic+4 areas. Mega cash, and nice exp.
Im with you Lyon. Once... I played one account solo. I think I did it for about 2 hrs before I decided it was FAR too easy of a game. Felt "kiddie-like". You never realize how much of a skilled individual you are as a multiboxer, and the love for the challenge, than when you revert back to teddy bear mode.
Im certain my groups will be double melee, and double ranged...... until they change the classes around...lol
They will do some fine tuning type balancing, but some things are not likely to change. For example, assassins and shadows are unlikely to ever get charge. For me this immediately puts them on the back burner for a main tank in a MB heroic party.
Also, any class with range can solo champion level mobs by exploiting pathing. Even melee can do it. There is also a difference between world champions and hardmode champions and then not all champions are created equal :) There are some champions anyone can toe to toe beat given moderately appropriate gear and then there are champions that will require a group no matter what.
In movement sensitive hardmodes, they do not have charge to quickly move around. That is a big issue because you almost definitely need to be running the healer from the healer perspective since it gives you a better overall awareness of what is going on and who needs to be moving.
Out of curiosity, "Going back to multiboxing, after an expensive hobby"...
What was your hobby?
I left multiboxing for a reason of not spending $75/month anymore, only to end up with a hobby that will cost me more lol. I did Wedding videography for a year and the cameras, lenses, equipments, marketing were expensive not to mention weekends are very tiring not even close to what I'm getting on my day job. So I sold all of my stuff for now and rather enjoy my weekend. A new camera is soon to come out called Canon c300 and its $20K. I rather escape the hobby before temptation hits me lol
On Topic:
Thanks for the inputs.
So it seems that . 3 Sorcs + 1 PT is like the 4shamans+ Paladin of WoW.
How's the healing of 3 Sorcs on a DPS talent tree?
Coming back to boxing since quitting WoW last year; I stopped (4) boxing just after Cataclysm release, dropping my accounts down to (2), and then eventually a single hard core raiding account. Initially started running (4) accounts so that my son and I could run heroics at our leisure without waiting forever to get groups; once the LFG system was implemented our reason became more of an obsession rather than a need.
Picked up the game around Christmas and we both enjoyed leveling up a tank and healer combo; as of late he has drifted back to WoW and his friends leaving me with a second account that has been begging to be used. I had to start a new log in name here as I cannot for the life of me remember which of the various incantations of user names I used back when we first started boxing. Looking forward to dual-boxing a new set of characters, but would like to find other likeminded folks who play regularly. Living in California seems to create difficulties with lots of guilds who end up starting raids while I am driving home from work.
Since I do not plan on running more than (2) accounts; doubtful my current system would be able to run (4) without some serious upgrading, would I be better served with dedicated DPS classes, say Merc/Soc , or run with a Tank/Heal combo. Played solo Jugg and really like the class, but lack of ranged support makes me wonder about the viability of boxing; could pair with a Marauder, but don’t relish the idea of doing the class quest twice on every planet.
You have two options (if you are interested in staying with the boxing community.) in game.
Option one: East coast server guild Revenant, which is a non-boxer led guild, but has several multiboxers from D-B.com in the same guild - Empire
Option two: West coast server guild Legion of Doom, which has multiboxers only - Empire
There is a Jedi guild on East coast server, but its rarely occupied enough.
Both are good guilds. Both have good people who can help do stuff.
As for group combos. Well, thats where it gets more into your own play style and opinion. Some people (like me), like to play multi class right out of the gate... whereas some still, prefer to level up 4 of the same class at a time, then pick and choose their groups at higher levels.
IMO - The Jugg or Merc and a Sorc is a fantastic combination.
Boxer guild thread here - http://www.dual-boxing.com/showthread.php?t=45809
Thanks for the fast reply; was looking at the possibility of LoD being a West Coast based operation. Generally past history has taught me that East Cost guilds don’t run when I am online since most of us have jobs that require sleep.
As to the combo Juggy and Sorc my question would be regarding Force Jump and how /follow works; many times I am running and click and jump to begin my attack. Will my Sorc continue to run towards my target, or will it get dumped and loose range? The Powertech/Sorc seemed well matched as they both start out ranged, with the PT being able to close the gap when needed.
Pyro-box, I love you for allowing me to use you right now...
MOSG2!!!! MANIFESTO....NAIO!!
Yes, sir. You can definitely operate a Jug and Sorc. Thats my fav combo, which im taking my time with right now. I have cashed in every "favor" from Mosg2, as he and I have perfected the combo setup. From personal experience, I am able to force leap, and maintain melee range with the Jugg, meanwhile the Sorc stays out of melee range if I want it to. If a target becomes out of range, a single button click while spamming, and the Sorc is right in the fight again. Not to mention the Sorc spam rotation is flawless. I wont tell Mosg2 "thanks" because it'll go straight to his head for helpin me figure out a better more efficient way of doing what I was already using from Mercbeasts Framework setup.
Needless to say, that combo (and im a bit biased), is a great combo.
Then Juggs and Sorc it will be; this was the combination that my son and I were running and I truly love the synergy of the classes; glad to know that I will be able to run the boxed pair, albeit not as smoothly.
When I get home tonight I will begin again anew on the Rakata server and begin my hunt for members of LoD. It will be interesting to see how much harder SWTOR will be as Jamba spoiled me for a good long time in WoW.
Thanks again
