I want to give Pet Boosting a try,

possible to create a macro that will tell my warlock's pet to attack
whatever mob my newbie toon is attacking? I am guessing I would have
to have my warlock focus on my newbie and have my pet attack the target
of my warlock focus but it seems like a lot of indirection. A sample
macro would be very appreciated.

Pretty much what you said sounds like it should work, and is pretty much the only way I can think of getting it to done and still be legal.
I mean you could put the pet attack commands on the same keys your noob is using, but I think that would just make it more complicated is all.

With focus based (as mentioned in the original post) ya would want
/petattack [target=focustarget]
If you're not grouped with the warlock, make sure the lowbie tags the mob before the pet hits it, or they get the kill and the lowbie gets nothing.
If they are grouped, then first hit means nothing, as long as the mob is damaged by a player and does not die entirely to the pet (which results in no exp's and the target is not lootable).
If the warlock is 10 or more levels ahead of the player, then the player (provided they tag the mob first) will only get the percentage of experience equal to the percentage of health damage they deal. For example, a mob has 100 health, the level 7 lowbie does 8 damage, the level 80 pet comes in and hits for 344, which finishes the mob off. Since the warlock exceeds the level 7 by more then 10 levels, the level 7 will only get 8% of the experience of soloing the mob.
It's still a very fast way for quests which require you to kill "x" of a mob, or to loot stuff off of a specific mob type. Or for mobs who are in the way of your quest item etc.
I was planning to be ungrouped from the warlock since that toon will be significantly higher level. The wiki page mentions doing no damage with the warlock and just the pet (after tagging), why? I assumed it was to get full XPs but it doesn't sound like that is the case.
Note that you cannot focus any player outside of your group/raid.
Also, you must have two or more low-level characters for you to get 100% XP when the pet kills it.
So if my warlock & pet are outside of my group I can't use a focus based macro and need to use the one you suggested?Quote:

Can you elaborate bit on this? Why can't just one toon tag and let the pet get the kill for 100% XPs? I don't plan on doing it that way since I want to RAF for the triple XPs.Quote:

So for my understanding....
If can party two lowbies together and tag mobs which can then be killed by a higher level warlock/hunter's pet and 300% XPs, assuming lowbie toons are RAF linked and within 4 levels of each other, as well in the same vicinity. Did I miss any requirements/stipulations?
IIRC (and i may be totally off base here) you can set focus then leave the group and your warlock should still have the lowbie as focus target.
As for the tagging:
If one solo toon tags a mob which is then killed by pet or other character and there is a significant difference in levels the low-solo toon will get very little experience. However, if grouped with another toon (like level or not) they will get full experience for the tagged mob. I'd assume that this was to help prevent tag-boosting for solo toons but still allow people to group up to hunt if they're being griefed by a higher level whos just coming along and killing everything they tag.

And yes, that's pretty much it. For whatever reason, a solo lowbie will get a % of the xp for a kill from a high-level's pet just like if he were grouped with you. With 2 or more lowbies in a group, the outside high-level pet will then be able to kill the mob and grant full xp to the 2+ lowbies. No clue why it is this way, but it is. :)
This isn't the case. I frequently follow my GF's hunter around and heal her while outside the group. I set her as the focus while not in the group.Quote:

Know something I don't? I suppose you could be talking about inviting someone to your group, setting them as focus, then disbanding. This will keep that focus until it gets unset, whereupon you must reset it to someone in group/raid again. But that makes it useless for people using dynamic focus for leaders.
well I was thinking the same thing as Ugh - and using the same type of macro as evidence... until someone on vent pointed out (rather condescendingly) that you can focus via right-click unit frame pretty much all the time.Quote:

so clarification: setting focus via macro when not grouped doesn't seem to work with the examples above(which is how i'd been setting those macros up as well). I'd bet if you changed those to something with a /target line it it they'd work out of group?

I'm glad you posted that Dorffo, it's been niggling me on-and-off all day.
Twice I started a post about how useless Focus would be if you couldn't focus on things outside of your group, but since I'm sitting at work with no WoW to test it on, I decided to keep my mouth shut until I could actually try it again ;)
lol...guess I've been doing it with /focus <target> for so long I didn't even think about the other methods. Learn something new every day. :) So considering it works those two ways and doesn't work with /focus <target>, I'd say someone in Blizzard's QA team dropped the ball. ;)
