I have a level 80 Horde team on my server and I have a near Level 80 team of Alliance on the same server. Anyone tried to use the Neutral auction house to transfer money between the factions? I want to do it but I really don't want to be flagged by blizzard. I guess I could always ask a GM as well.
This was the big trick in the past to transfer across factions. I don't think there's anything that would get you flagged for doing this. But I would warn you, Blizzard supposedly added a much higher "tax" on sales made on the neutral AH to make this less appealing to people. I have no idea what the cost will be, but the interface will probably tell you the AH fee when you prepare a sale to post.
People also used this to transfer items across factions as well, but you need to be careful because I've heard of one person that posted some twink gear on there to buy right away on the other faction, but someone else snagged it off the AH before he could.
I'm not sure if its legal or not but I have done it. But, toon A posting item in neatrual AH can not be on same account as toon B trying to buy the item.
This is what the neutral auction house is for.
The best way to transfer money is by transfering commodity items such as primals, herbs, etc... and reselling on the other side.
You sell to yourself on the neutral AH for 1 copper a stack but be ready and do 1 stack at a time, if you get ninja'd, stop til later.
When i did it I posted something stupid i think it was like a grey lvl 2 sword for 500g lol. Than bought it with my ally toons, Bam my horde toon got 500g. I highly doubt anyone would ninja that.
That's fine except the goblins charge a 15% tax on all trades. The reason it was suggested to instead trade commodities across the neutral AH for 1c/stack was to avoid the 15% fee. If you transfer say stacks of 20 infinite dust from your rich team to the poor team at 1c/each, then you can resell them on the poor team's faction-specific AH at the real going rate.Quote:

That is exactly what I thought Blizzard nerfed. We already know you wouldn't get exactly 500g after the AH cut (probably something like 490g at best on a faction AH?), but the neutral AH supposedly takes a much larger cut of any profits. I never use the neutral AH, so I can't provide any idea of what that cut % is.Quote:

The last time i did that was way before lich king so i didnt know they had nerfed it.
There are a couple of ways to do this - I have moved massive amounts of gold back and forth
#1 - Put something cheap up in the AH for a ton of money where you want the gold. Boar ribs for 2000g for example. Buy it on the other side.
Pros - You will get your gold after one hour, even if someone decides your Boar ribs are worth 2000g
Cons - Neutral AH takes a 15% cut. There were people banned and reinstated after 3.1 went live for moving raw gold. This was assumed to be some new automated anti gold selling/buying feature. It is also assumed to have been fixed or removed so nobody should get auto banned anymore.
#2 - Place an item of value up in the AH for 1c/1s/1g - cheap on the side you have the gold. Buy it on the side you need the gold and then sell it.
Pros - No Neutral AH cut.
Cons - Possible to get item sniped. Possible not to sell items, or take a loss greater the 15% (a loss of less then 15% is still a gain vs the AH cut). Access to all gold could take days. Time needed to sell items.
I personally use option #2 all the time. I have never moved raw gold, I am too cheap to pay 15%. so when I said I moved massive amounts of gold it was all tied up in items. I am not worried about the bans, they were a mistake that was corrected. What I do is farm certain things while my main raids that are very valuable to the opposite faction or sell better on one faction vs the other. Transfer them and then sell them in the AH or via /2. If I want the gold back I buy something or things and transfer it back. Often you can buy things one side and sell them higher on the other and actually make money. Commodity items are great for this - gems, herbs, ore/bars, glyphs. After 3.1 my scribe got a Glyph book. Unfortunately it looks like 3 other people got that one too so my side the glyph was selling for 25g. Alliance side it was selling for 200g. I moved 5 across and sold them for a total of about 700g. I bought 6 other glyphs for about 500G and moved them back across and sold them for over 800G.
One thing i have done is buy items that I needed and then moved them across. I wanted to make some Spellshock stuff. One side Dragon's Eyes were 250g each. The other side they were 90g each. I needed them on the 250g side. I farmed a couple of difficult to obtain items and move them across, sold them and bought the cheap Dragon's Eyes to move back. You can also work it the opposite way. If you want gear for your new alliance team craft it, or get mats on Horde side, and then transfer the items over.
I have only had one thing sniped ever and the person used a bot (actually a legal addon in an illegal way) to do it. It was well over a year ago too. Blizzard has cracked down, and the addon they likely used had the featured disabled. With two accounts up, buy side search term pre-entered and tested it takes less then 3 seconds to post and buy the auction. Someone needs to get VERY lucky to snipe something from me - or anyone else doing it this way. Or they cheated in which case you lose one thing and report them for botting and they lose their account. Of course I always check for items being transferred when I hit the neitral AH, especially if I see lower then normal toons hanging out there. I have manually sniped some items even recently - Some cut gems for 1s each and a stack of Titansteel for 1c. My guess is the person was trying to buy their own auction and found out the hard way they couldn't.

Neutral AH trading can be fun and very profitable if thats your deal.

issue mentioned above but that is it. The goblins have always charged
15% and faction rating does not affect the rate you pay at any AH.
The 15% neutral AH cut has been the same since classic. The only thing that's changed was the deposit when they upped the min/max durations (which doesn't matter, since you get that back 100% if the auction sells.)
I did Horde -> Alliance a few months before BC came out, and instead of taking the 15% cut I just bought a bunch of lava/fiery cores, righteous orbs, arcane crystals/arcanite, etc and resold them. I ended up making about 10% profit off it too. As someone stated, just list the item for the min duration with 1c buyout and have both characters standing at the AH to buy it out the second you list it.
Yup, dug around and found that there were no posted changes to the neutral AH fees.
I thought I recalled the AHs being released with the same fees, but the neutral being changed shortly afterward when they saw how people used it. Looks like my memory from over 4 years ago is a bit hazy. :P
As much as I would like to just list items and not take the cut I can farm my dailies on my horde team alot faster/easier then on my alliance team ATM. I have tons of cash on my horde side (10,000g+) with geared toons epic flyers etc, but I want to transfer the money from Horde -> Alliance to help jump start my alliance toons, even though they have about 8,000g between them but no real good gear yet.
Ive transferred 10k to horde, lost 1500 in ah fees.
I did this quite often on my old PVE server when I switched from alliance to horde. Also used to have alliance guys buy stuff off the AH (weapon/armor upgrades and mats) that were either unavailable on the horde AH or astronomically priced. Example: Bringer of Death staves were going for 450g on my horde AH, so I went and bought the 4 others I needed for 75g each on the alliance AH. What can I say, alliance was 3.2:1 outnumbering horde so they had a crapload of stuff on the AH for cheap.
If you have a good reputation on your server you can often find people willing to trade 1:1. The problem here is, that blizzard won't do ANYTHING to save you if the other party takes your money. I've done this a lot, but I've always done it with people I've trusted.
I use the neutral AH quite a bit. If one item is cheaper over there, I buy it on the other AH and transfer it through the AH. I usually put items for 1g (item is worth about 20-40g). You lose 15s, but really 15s? It puts the items if people sort by price farther down the list. Also, if you are here, you have multiple accounts, so you can just get all set up and post the item on one account and buy it within 5 secs on the other. You can use Booty Bay, Gad and Everlook (can't speak for Area 52 or anywhere in Northrend) so you don't have two toons standing next to each other (might draw attention). I have gotten jacked 1 time in the past 4 years, but I was being lazy away from home with only one computer and signed in to one account at a time. Was about 1 min between posting and trying to buy. I don't really have that much money to transfer or really big expensive items to trade, so the way I do it works for me. You can also get your money back by trading items that sell well on the other AH (horde specific item in alliance AH, etc).

Get your horde and ally toons at different goblin auction houses so you can see if anyone is at them. Say Gadget and that one north of Orgrimar. If you're feeling paranoid put one in booty bay. So now you can see that noone else is there and you can't get sniped.
sell high worth enchanting mats for 1c because you don't pay a deposit and 15% of 1c is bugger all
I used the neutral AH all the time to build up a nest egg when I went back for BC. Transferring thorium from alliance to horde and solid stone of all things from horde to alliance. The problem with trading goods to sell for money is finding something that people are actually buying. Expansions and large patches usually saw a surge in something, but I didn't see very much of that with Wrath, and by now the market is probably pretty quiet. Even twink items were hard to sell on my server by the time I left.
/who is your friend. While flying my toons from each side to an AH, I just /who Gadgetzan, /who Tanaris and /who Winterspring on each side. Anyone under about 20 is most likely sitting there scanning the AH.
Set up what you're going to buy before you post it. I always put the item I'm looking to buy in the search, search for it once and then put it up on the other toon. This way I know if there's another one up so I don't accidently buy the wrong one and don't have to waste precious seconds typing it in while it's posted.
Not sure if it's still this way in the default interface, but in Auctioneer, bids don't require confirmation, buyouts do. Setting the bid and buyout the same lets you just bid to win, saving you a second or two. If it's an item I don't want to potentially lose, I tend to use a higher price. People scanning the neutral AH for profit are looking for the people posting things for less than a few gold to save on AH fees.
Transferring money directly is easy, though. No one is going to pay 2k for a stack of linen.
Iused to put common items up on the AH for ridiculous amounts of money (ie Linen for 1000G, 2000G) and every now and then I'd get a nice "check in the mail." I did this till a guy whispered me and told me I stole his money because i put the item up for sale...eventually I was messaged by a GM and they suggested I give the guy his money back. No action was taken but to avoid the harrasment I stopped doing it.
someone said that selling and buying on the same account ( horde->alliance ) was illegal while selling horde->alliance on two seperate accounts was fine.
Does anyone know if this is true? if it is true we should let everyone know the proper rules.
I have sold stuff accoss accounts. It's usually something collected or made like herbs, ore or bags and I sell them cheap like 1c and buy them back on the opposite account.
I have both accounts open at the same time auction & buy in like 10 seconds. I figure if someone out buys me in that 10 seconds then they deserve to have it... it's never happened though.
I've never tried to move much in the way of gold because I usually find my mboxing teams have no problem making their own gold. I just move enough gold to seed my character ( like 100G ) which you can do with selling some linen cloth for 100G each.
The game client will actually not allow you to sell/buy from the AH on the same account. So if you have horde and alliance toons on the same PVE realm, same account, and you post the auction then try to buy it, it will tell you "you cannot bid on your own auctions".Quote:

It's not that it's illegal, it's just plain not allowed by the game client. You have to use separate accounts to buy/sell across the neutral AH. If you're ever in a situation where on a particular server you don't have toons from separate accounts, you can either get a lowbie to booty bay pretty easy (horde: zep to grom'gol then swim, alliance, run to westfall then swim), or find a trusted friend to do the neutral AH trade with.
I have also directly traded gold with people. Check your realm forums for people looking to trade or post yourself if need be. I would only do this with two accounts one logged onto horde and one logged onto alliance so that there is gold visible in all the trade windows at the same time. If the other person doesn't have two accounts have them get a friend they trust to do one side of the trade.
Even though it would seem that this would fall under the Scam policy Blizzard has said that because the trade falls outside of normal game play it is unsupported. Ahh I found it

Figure its probably been answered enough Gares... but FWIW - I used to run a money-transfer service on Blackhand during 1.0 days, never had any issues. Started out going through the Neutral AH, eventually had enough gold on both sides that I could just do trades.
Pricing: I'd do 1:1 trades for people I knew, 5% charge on larger sums for people that I didn't know.
Easier for horde to run to ratchet and take the boat straight to booty bay. That way you run through lower level areas with less mobs (near where you run).Quote:

I think you can even swim/run straight from the orc/troll starting area to ratchet by going out the "secret passage" that is used for the shaman quest, and avoiding the higher lvl mobs in the water by ratchet.
