WoW - 3 minute fear ward discussion

This discussion was taking over another thread so I decided to make this so everyone can stop spamming that thread.

Current plan for new fear ward is every race gets it, it gets changed to 3 minute duration and 3 minute cool down.

I have no problem with horde getting FW, I have a problem with suddenly altering gameplay to that extreme. No reason to make Azeroth content harder just because TBC content uses different fear mechanics.

I'll admit having two alliance priest races with current FW was a real blow to horde come TBC launch. But we're talking boxing here, not normal gameplay, and if you can't understand how the proposed new FW blows chunks for boxing then I'm at a loss.

I made a point about my being hordie for a reason.

In response to Tealuin's last post:

Yeah, horde get real shafted by gaining something and losing nothing.

The new fear ward blows chunks for everyone with a dwarf or draenei priest, just more so for boxers since we are more prone to fear. On the other hand it seems like most boxers are horde for wotf instead, so not so much.

Where did you make a point about being horde? Are you talking about your troll rogue?

Okay, since you guys aren't getting it I'll spell it out for how it screws me ... AND AGAIN keep in mind this is NOT from an alliance perspective, okay!!!

My group on Mag includes an ORC lock ... NO WotF ... so when playing my PvE setup the one use of FW per 3 mins is gonna screw me. This has NOTHING to do with OLD WORLD RAID CONTENT.

I guess I shouldn't depend on the fact that was spelled out in my sig.

Edit:

Altered closing comment ... as this is a boxing forum, I would expect people to think in the context of the original thread that any additional anti-fear mechanism was appropriate and RAID content is wholly unrelated to the topic of boxing 5-man content and dealing with fear.

Don't worry, the blues posted before TBC released that fear wouldn't be a major part of the game in TBC. Thats why they gave a 2nd fear ward to alliance and didn't give one to Horde.

I've been a raid leader since early release and have dealt with fear on the horde side the only way we can... undead tanks, mithril insignia, pvp trinkets, etc... It's not been easy, but we always manage to figure it out and deal with it.

Blizzard is nerfing the existing fear ward and giving it to the Horde... so what, if it's not a talent and all priests get it, then it's a one or two time freebie fear break for my average raid on fights that fears an issue... The Alliance will cry that they got nerfed, we don't really get anything game breaking from it, and the world will continue.

All said and done, the worlds top progression guilds were all alliance pre TBC, now it's a MUCH better balance since Horde has paladins... once fear ward is removed from alliance and rebalanced for all to use, we'll see where the real raiders are and where those who were getting past fear based encounters the easy way are.

That said - for boxing it comes down to there is no viable way to keep your group unfearable, you just have to learn to move on your feet... that means creative movement to gather and face, and it means your tank may have to do some shuffle steps to keep in range of your healers at times... but thats the price ya pay.

If getting fear ward is screwing you then just don't train it. You don't have to get it from the trainers.

You have both alliance and horde in your sig. It doesn't matter either way for the main points in the discussion.

Horde using fear ward isn't relevant to the discussion right now. Discussion of a future change that might get altered isn't helping someone right now.

Horde have been whingeing for the last 3 years about how alliance have it easy mode in end game due to fear ward..

why didn't they make it a tier5/6 talent in the holy tree and be done with it... then holy spec priests will all have it and they wouldn't need to gimp it the way they have while it will still be out of reach for PVP priests

If the fear is predictable(either on a timer or something to tell you its comming), warriors can get immunity to fear every 30 seconds. It's called stance dance, as berserker rage(IE immune to fear) is only available in berserker stance(IE not the stance you want to spend a lot of time tanking in). Being undead/fear warded does help though.

How do Horde currently do this encounter? Do they require an undead tank?

omg I only have said that for alliance it is much easier because of fear ward, nothing more

Wow. You really are quite unfamiliar with Alliance.

Fear Ward might last 10 minutes (soon to be 3), but it is consumed by one application of Fear. PERIOD. So in the old 40-mans it was great because you had a boatload of priests, but in 10-mans when you might have two, it's situational at best. The worst part is that the ward is consumed even when the target is immune to fear, and it cannot be used as a safety net if the MT screws up the stance dance.

Everyone does it the same way. The Warrior switches to Berserker Stance and uses Berserker Rage when Nightbane is about to fear.

I am telling you that Fear Ward for all races will really not help that much for Nightbane. Alliance or Horde, if your MT gets feared, you lose.

I assume fear ward just lets non-warriors tank, which it won't anymore.
