I endorse this plan B also, since I didn't think to use the 79 trick.
Skipping something like half of one level is just a huuuuge advantage. I mean that too, non-sarcastically non-ironically. As you work from 79-80 you find that most quests pay out 22050xp for the turn-in alone. That's somewhere between 1/4 and 1/2 of a bubble (so 1/80 or 1/40 of a level).
25 turn-ins might not get you half of a level, but I'd clearly rather have it than not have it.
So, next payday I've gotta sign up for the digital upgrade! (canceled my gamestop pre-order)
I have so many teams, rested will build up naturally on each as I play the others. So not a concern for some of us. Besides you can go knock out guild achievements (dungeons) for some rested exp down time. Also I for one will not be rushing, like I did for Wrath, to max level. Sure you get ahead of the curve a bit for PvE but meh... not that important unless your in a raiding guild.
Being ahead sounds important to me if you wanna quest your way up. I can see quite some bottleneck quests where people fight over spawns. If you are 1 level ahead, I figure you end up with quests/zones that are easier to complete.
I'll go with the full quest log from northrend/stormpeaks into cata. Then chain pulling rnadom wotlk hc dungeons till 81. And then move into cata.
While I'm totally psyched to start going through new content, since I do not want to spend launch week guzzling energy drinks and playing from the toilet so I can go NON STOP, I am not too worried on missing out on a bit of rested xp.
If Cata is anything like Wrath I will probably wander around going "Ooooooh! PRETTY!" in half of the zones for at least a week before I seriously get into gear with leveling.
And, as offive said, I'll be leveling both my main team and my off-teams (and a team of Worgen Druids) I bet I'll have plenty of rested all around due to switching off.
Also: I am probably going to spend at least 80-81 on my main team leveling in the first dungeon, just so I can learn the new tricks we'll need for Cata. It should be fun!
Expect to say "Oooh pretty" or "Wow" a lot in Vash and Uldum. Hyjal, Deepholme, and Twilight Highlands are kinda standard.
Yes there are some really big bottle necks in Hyjal and Vash... expect to get stuck for an extended period of time right off the bat in either. Also keep in mind you can farm plants and ore like mad once you get Azeroth flying, I might do that just to stock pile until the rush slows in the first couple of zones. If you can get your skill ups off the Hyjal nodes fast enough you can get ahead of the masses and really have your pick of the good stuff. Not sure if the the whole group still gets exp from node farming still... but if it does, keep your team with you while you farm.
There are so many things you can do that will be way less frustrating that the dreaded collection quests or camping the spawn points for fire elementals / water snakes.
Of course I want to see which nut on this forum maxes out Archeology on 5 accounts first! Ugh horrible thought... the pain!
Keep in mind that the new zones are quite linear in questing. You have to complete quests in a certain order to keep going. This is where I think Blizzard messed up, even in wrath you could jump around a bit in a zone. But the phasing and linear quest lines in Hyjal and Vash... well lets just say it's going to make life tough and kinda bad for replayability.
The good news is that it only takes a few hours to knock out either of the starting zones if you don't get stopped by the spawn rates.
I take it there is no questing needed to be able to access a dungeon? In other words, in order to unlock a quest to access a dungeon, you don't need to complete a couple of other chains?
That is a big change in Cata, all instance quests are located just inside the entrance to the instance! No more chains, no more missing instance quests. The only locks you might have are being able to use the LFD tool to run instances. If you don't meet the average ilvl gear requirement you can't use LFD. The simple solution is to go to the dungeon entrance and zone in.
You do have to go to the entrance of new instances at least once to "discover" them, after that with a high enough ilvl you can use LFD for everything. Which will be ideal for most of the new 5 mans since they all require a bit of travel to reach them.
There had been some talk about quest logs being cleared when the expansion hits since so many old world quests are being changed or removed. This gives me pause about stacking completed quests or dailies. Has here been any official post about it?
