Fippy Darkpaw

In middle school i thought Bards Tale 3 was the most awesome game ever. A couple years ago i got a C64 emulator and got the rom to play the game again. I was all excited and when i loaded it up and made a character i thought Why did i think this was so great?! I'd be afraid to have e same reaction playing EQ. Plus, in bards tale i never jumped up from my chair on the verge of heaving the computer off the balcony because i died halfway around the world in a bad spot without a bind and for gods sake i just want to log out and go to bed!!!!!:mad:

Idk if I'm going to do a pack of DE's, seems race/class/alignment matters early in the progression of xpacs. Idk if I'd be gimnping myself w/ evil races from the start. If so, plan B was thinking Humans from Qeynos.

Once the server gets going, I'd be willing to hook up w/ other boxers. Sometimes it gets old playing w/ myself:)

I saw your post on the EQ forums about class makeup. I really wanted to stack classes but there is so much that is missed with stacking. Buff coverage is my priority. I am thinking of Tank (warrior/paly), cleric, bard, enchanter, druid, wizard. The druid and bard need to be run from surefall glade to Qeynos very carefully to group up -or- level together till 6 or so and the run is not so bad. I really wanted druid and wizard for max porting options. Bard for the faster run speed because there is gonna be nothing but running for a long time. At higher levels the bard is a good puller. Paly would make a good backup rezzer and druid is a good backup healer.

Another race option is wood elf/high elf combo. They start in the same zone (kinda) and have lots of class coverage between the two.

One thing a guild gives us is help on wipe recovery. Sometimes you need help getting your bodies back for exp rezzes. We should be keeping our gear when we die unless the sadists get their way. In the case body recovery is a requirement, guild necros become important.

Yeah, so much to think about before making characters and starting leveling. Looking like it would be a big time commitment to stop and reform or switching one or two out. I'm pretty much a total newb for EQ:) I think mixing classes might confuse me, so I may end up stacking vs mobility/utility. Once i form up on the new server, I'll let you know what/where I am. See ya next week.

Edit: I hadn't considered High Elves, would have to drop the SK. Would probably go Warrior instead of a Paladin. Hmm, something else to consider.

I am leaning toward the wood elve/high elve combo right now. Wood elves get innate forage which will help with food/water requirements when the $$ is low. Wood elves get a max 50 skill in classic while all bards get 55 skill and druids get a much higher (200?) cap. Many of the foraged items become essential for brewing so you have other uses for the skill.

I am going to try a dry run tonight running my wood elves to Felwithe. Been a long time since I was in this zone.

Running multiple classes is really easy with the social/macro system. You can macro a whole fight worth of spell casts in one macro. For example:

/pause 40, /cast 1
/pause 45, /cast 2
/pause 40, /cast 1
/cast 4

The pause gets processed after the spell starts casting but you have to put it first on each line. The pauses are in tenths of a second. Set up the pause to equal the cast time of your spell plus about a second then tune to fit. If a spell cast time is 3 seconds then set the delay to 40. The /cast 1 will cast the first spell gem, 2 the second etc. So make sure you have the pause set to match your spell.

Once you have your dps macros set up all you have to do is hit the key once and it will fire off the whole macro in order. You can't perform any other actions (spells etc) while the macro is running though. This leaves you to focus on your tank and melee. Really easy for the most part.

With a caster heavy group you are going to have a lot of down time if you don't have an enchanter/bard around. The mana regen buffs are essential to a fast moving group.

Remember, we are going to have really, really crappy regen rates even while sitting. That super regen that is on live will not be on Fippy until the expac it came with. Regen rate will be king for a while.

I'm still kicking around what direction I will take but i'm not planning on more then three.

I'll be doing at least 2 groups and probably a single character as well. One of my rl friends is interested in trying EQ w/ the TL server. He always ends up at least dualboxing too.

I can be anti-social at times so I'll probably do 6. I'm running a full group on Bert....I ain't even going to attempt to spell it lol, SK/Cleric/4 Mages(alll DE's), just so I can learn the game. If i can pick up enough maybe I'll put am Enchanter in for a Mage. Not really getting a tatse of mana regening suck, so it's like I have no concept of how bad it will be w/o one.

Really don't know what my team on the TL server will be yet.

Your group will work. If your mage's focus on mainly using DPS pets (fire) you can burn mobs down fine. The frequency of your pulls may not be as fast with an enchanter but you will have a lot of pet damage requiring no mana.

I've played EQ on and off for years and, while this is more of the classic game play to start, one thing I always remember is that many types of groups work. Some are just more effective then others.

It might be a good idea to look into forming a guild together on Fippy Darkpaw.

No need to put up with others scrutinizing our play style.

Im debating what to play as im an old veteran who played in 1999 till WoW came out, All the talk about no to boxing and that on the fippy forums had put a damper on me boxing it BUT you guys are giving me hope.
So i think i will box a group of 5 or 6 and id be up to joining the guild, just not looking forward to the spite of every other non boxer!

Shoot, I have seen many posts on the EQ forums about folks wanted to box 2 or 3 at a time. I have never recieved any grief from other players. Just be respectfull, don't break others camps and help/buff others you come across. Save a few butts here and there and folks will remember you, unlike Wow.

I noticed that guild creation is a real simple thing now, press alt-g and type in your guild name, thats it. Any suggestions for a guild name?

Btw I ran 2 woodelves to Felwithe (HE city, half a zone run) with no problems. Wait at the bottom of the elevator for the orc to charge the guards then take off. Everything is indifferent to you other than the orc. I am still torn between a HE/WE team and Qeynos/Surefall Human/Halfelf team. I really remember Blackburrow well compared to the other low level train stations. The karanas is wide open for setting up leveling camps too. IIRC you can grind exp in raids also.

Here are a few of the character names I will try to get on launch. Sworddancing, Surroundsound, Whitebelly, Beautysleep, Feedthetree and Swoon. I should be on one of them tuesday.
