Multi-Boxing 3 accounts, RaF and guild leveling. I have a plan!

Hi,

A completely new Multi-Boxer here, tried IS Boxer about a year ago but could never get the hang of it.
Anyway, first post here, please be patient with formatting and such.
Have read the newbie sticky guides during the day. Nice work!

Here's the reasoning behind eveything:
I've been planning to add another account to my Bnet. All xpacs and sub rolling.
(love having a 90 mage hanging around for teleports, warlock for summons and a druid farmer, when we have downtime in raids or need to look for something in a city)
Profession CD's and the other benefits aswell.

And since I already have and in the future plan to have all alts in my own guild, shared bank with mobile banking will be lovely! (almost exclusively playing endgame on 1 character.)

I was thinking of doing this:
- Recruit 2 accounts from main account, or 1 from the other to-be MoP account.
- Rotate teams of 1 tank and 2 dps for dungeons for the "guild group boss kill XP" and blast towards level 80.
- Healers would be nice if it's relatively easy to setup.

Got 6 questions for you experienced Dual/multi-boxers.
- Does this sound like a valid plan?
- Is it possible to go with both melee and range dps when the main is tanking? or is it more of a nuisance?
- Been looking around for about a week now. Was so close to paying for PWNBOXER, but I'm getting more and uncertain about this Tim dude. What would you recommend?
I won't mind paying and putting in the time to learn.
- IS boxer seems like the more reliable software to use, is that a reasonable assumption?
- Does Jamba enhance the experience overall for multiboxing? Is it easy to use?

I'll just answer this one, other more experienced boxers can no doubt answer you better on the others!

But a huge YES to Jamba, it is indeed awesome for multiboxing - in fact, having used it for a couple of months now, I don't know how I did without it before.

I recommend staying away from him/his product. You have the best free alternative with hotkeynet, and the best paid software being isboxer. There are several threads on this site that go deeper into pwnboxer, but in short the guy has been banned in the past from this site, including his product. I don't like his slick marketing talk and methods (to give you an example, a while ago someone in his affiliate program downloaded a ton of multiboxing movies from youtube, and reuploaded them on his own channel, and then making it look as all those movies were using pwnboxer. when confronted with this he basically just said that it was not his problem/fault since it was someone in his affiliate program). And there are many more events like this. It's much more about that smart internet marketing chit chat than about his product.

Really if you want to pay for it go isboxer, plenty of resources here.
If you want a free solution and you dont mind writing your own scripts, use hotkeynet. Plenty of resources on this site as well.

It does take a little getting used to, but no more than anything else you'll have to understand to start boxing - it's not that hard, and you can use as much or as little of it as makes sense to your use-case. I haven't started on Jamba macros yet for example, even though they sound awesome, simply because I don't have the need for them with what I'm doing so far.

It's primarily a boxing tool, but I find myself using the quest-item bar even when playing solo.

This will depend on what you want to end up with. RAF requires the accounts that are linked be within 4 levels to gain the RAF XP boost. If you intend to boost the new accounts using a high level from your main account, then I believe you'll need the two new accounts linked to each other. So A recruits B and B recruits C. This is also the preferred method if you're going to level all three accounts together, from my understanding {I haven't done RAF since it first came out, so...}.

If you just want to load up your main account with "free" toons from gifted levels then you'd have A recruit both accounts so both B and C can gift levels to the main account. But this doesn't sound like what you're going for.

This is a mixed bag. I don't think healers are hard, but if you're new it will take some work to set up and get used to.

On the other hand, it is generally a LOT faster to fill out a Dungeon Finder group with DPS than it is to wait for a tank or healer. So if you have tank and healer covered, it should be nearly instant to get 2 more DPS to get through the dungeon. And since you're going to be playing with strangers, it means those DPS actually have a chance at loot drops which makes people less likely to rage about how they had to "carry a stupid multiboxer through a dungeon only to end up with nothing cuz that stupid multiboxer 'needed' everything."

As always, I'd suggest starting with a very simple setup, possibly all the same class, for your first group just to get the mechanics of multiboxing down and work out any issues you come across with just questing before moving on to a mixed group and dungeons. Especially since you'll be running dungeons with strangers. They aren't so go with waiting around while you figure out what's wrong.

Very possible. I run all melee except for my healer, who stays at range. I've also done half ranged and half melee as well as all ranged. Again, it requires some setup, but it's well-tread territory so there's guides all over the place for setting up mixed teams.

I would stay away from Pwnboxer. As Zenga said, there's a reason he's not allowed to post here. Many, actually. But barring practices and personal issues, the program itself is just not that good from what we've heard from a lot of users. ISboxer and HotKeyNet are a lot more functional. You can do a search about it if you're curious, but when it comes down to it, you're going to get far more support for just about any other program on the planet here than you are for pwnboxer if for no reason other than no one uses it.

ISboxer is hands down the most popular multiboxing software. Period. There's tons of documentation, tons of users, tons of videos.

Jamba is a godsend. Like Saqor, I even use parts of it while solo. The only thing that sucks about Jamba is I have to play WoW to use it, rofl. <3 Jafula!

Here's the Newbie's Guide for Jamba.

You can certainly play the healer at the same time as the tank in LFD levelling up. Keep in mind that no one but the tank should even take damage for the first 40 levels, and choose a healing class with a nice [@focus] rotation (I love figuring out healing rotations). I would recommend against monk because it is a pain to heal until level 30 or so, but anything else can be macroed to put out enough healing to keep a levelling tank up. Especially if both the tank and the healer have some heirlooms.

I wouldn't mix ranged and melee dps in the same 3 person team, no synergy and kind of annoying.

Keep in mind that you can't "blast" level your guild this way, as there is a limit on guild dungeons that give you credit a week, I think its 10? (might be 5). Probably want to be prepared to quest out the zones you need for loremaster if you really want to make a dent in the guild xp. (I've actually gotten most of level ten this week just with finishing a lower level zone and doing vashjir on one character).

Another humble suggestion, you might want to consider mixing a paladin tank with ranged dps and feral tank with melee. I find that a paladin works the smoothest because her pull spell is ranged anyway. I personally dislike charging in and breaking follow when doing trash in dungeons, but thats just me. In fact, for the vast majority of low level dungeons, you never need to break follow, cleaving bosses are pretty rare (and pretty puny).

It's 7 Guild Challenges per week, and they give 125 gold each (250 at guild level 25), but not a lot of guild-xp - questing is much more efficient in that regard.
