So it sounds like some people's experience is improved while multi-boxing and others it is much degraded. When the single client proximity bugs are fixed, I'll take a look at multi-client situations and see if I can see why it's being impacted.

I guess there is no longer even the slightest argument that boxing is illigal.

Here are my system stuffs from that thread:

Didnt read the whole thread but seeing devs are reading it, and seeing boxing is common now, I would suggest making some changes to help boxing.

Items common to each client should go into a "shared client area" of memory. So if the first client needs 800K of memory, the game would set aside part of that into a share (say the zone textutures) and the next client to start, if its in the same zone would read form those files and the 2nd client wout then need 400K of memory if the first client was able to share 400K of its memory. Right now each client is taking up 600-800K of memory.

Same with the packets sent, if both clients are in the same area at the same ip then the mob/packet info could be shared also. Although I can see that would be harder to implement.

Alternativly people could pay for extra accounts for their main character to give that character the powers of another class, and some kind of lore where if you lose HP equal to one of your classes powers for that class would not work ... kinda complex but it would eliminate boxing, make everything simpler and let me have one character with 24 classes (I 24 box on 24 accounts).

If you shut off wineq/playnice you will get problems. EQplaynice can let you render the world at say 1/60th the number of times (just the world not characters) on your background clients. This saves a ton of GPU power. Another thing that should be implemented in EQ iteself. IF you used playnice prior patch then you should use it post patch to get a fair comparision.

On my main computer, I have 50ms to the server all the time and running 4 clients is virtually perfect (with clip plane at 100), no shawdows though, and no spell, env, or player stuffs and no sound (simple sky update 1 minute). Im in san jose, ca on 6.0 dsl (and two ethernet connections to the router on my main computer).

Athon X2 6400, raptor HD for EQ, 4 gig ram (shows 3.6G available cause i have .5G flash ram on montherboard!), 8600 GTS with 256 ddr3 ram, on a HP 2335 1920X1200 monitor (same panel as the apple 23/24 inch!) running at 1920X1200 full screen (I switch between the 4 clients). AND my computer is SILENT the only fans are the 14cm in the power supply and the 12cm on the cpu heat sink, both the mothboard and video card have no fans at all! No case fans either lol ... My UI is custom so I have all the words at the bottem and viewport at about 80 percent so I only render 80 percent of the screen also. My other 5 are not as good but I run them with clip at 50percent and they are fine, each with 4 clients.

Oh ya I run win2K without NORTON or any anit virus (just make back ups of the whole hard disk from time to time), so I dont have any OS system bloat in the background, run this program from microsoft: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb963902.aspx and you will be gobsmacked as to how much stuff runs when you start your computer, Iv got rid of most all stuffs I dont need.

Now THAT is a EQ computer system! 4 clients zero lag.

Sam,

A bit offtopic but -

How is the Cali housing market doing these days? You still own those two half mil buildings? It's getting really messy out there but landlords aren't getting hit as badly as homeowners.

The value of the properties has dropped about 30percent. Yet rents are up by about 10-20pecent, and because I have no intention of selling my properties, I have no complaints. I own 3 properties now.

I don't run antivirus or antispyware either. I've never understood the concept of running software that takes up resources to get rid of/protect against other programs that take up resources.

The sysinternals stuff is nice, but there are many ways you can slim down your windows to be nothing but a gaming machine. I've had Windows XP running on as little as 13-14 processes at startup. No frills, no eye candy. You couple that with a dualquad core, a bit of RAM, and you're gonna be crushing systems costing much more money.

I'm not sure I agree about giving one person 24 chars worth of abilities. That just makes a person uber with only one person to control. Right now, you are somewhat at a disadvantage when multiboxing. I 6-box daoc and can easily get owned by 6 independent players, sometimes fewer. Only having one person with that many abilities would make it easier and actually would put you at a great advantage over the multiboxing situation.

that would make it so if you make more money..........you're more powerful. Playing more characters doesn't necessarily always make you more powerful. There are disadvantages. I can't think of a disadvantage of having 24 chars worth of abilities......

Not to mention, it sounds like you're paying to have a multiple personality disorder...... :cursing:

Glad to see your doing well still Sam :) How's EQ been? I looked at the amount of AA's players have now and it exceeds 2000+!?! that's insane.

EQ continues, its more complex then wow for sure, much slower to level up. I like and plan to stay, they keep everything fresh with new expansions every year, the graphics get better, everything continues to improve.

Is EQ really that good now? I quit around PoP... the PvP was a joke before then and probably still is now. Ever tried killing a pally or an enchanter as a wizard? They just mez you for 5 minutes or stun you over and over then LOH. It was just stupid to see the utter lack of balance at that point in time. Then the AA system.... don't get me started on the farm fest that was. Even raiding.... needing 90 or more people for content....... I guess you mostly just PvP. Which with 24 people would be a gib fest. But I still see EQ as a dying game. They just don't have the income to justify the kind of expansion of content or balancing of the game that to me would be required for a fun gaming experience. Further, the game is difficult if not impossible to radically change so every update is more of a polish than radical improvement.

All that said though, if one is appropriately geared and leveled, it could be fun. Same with UO of course. But it still has innate issues - of which one of the most critical is the lack of overall subscription base.

Hey sam, I remember seeing you on sullon zek.. leveling those first 4 wizards slowly but surely!

I remember you getting flamed by the worst community on the internet at that time(sullon zek message boards) and not minding and just posting more pics of hmm those "lonely" girls.. I have a vivid memory of that black chick with that cardboard sign :P makes me laugh even today

I was Nizzarr back then but I doubt you remember any of that :) Glad you're still having fun playing those 24 toons now..

edit: Do you still have that black lady picture? thatd be epic if you posted it again!
