Someone offered me money for my challenge mode and Proving Grounds ISboxer configuration files (keymaps/macro's ...). So I was wondering if charging money for what are basically text files was violating any rules (between me/isboxer or me/wow). Anyone an idea about this?

Would ask lax. As for blizzard yes but if they can get away with paid class guides.
what has the world come to this stuff used to be shared now its $$$, makes me sick!

Your ISBoxer configuration is yours, sell it if you want. You can also be a consultant and charge fees for helping people if you want.

Thanks for clearing that up.
To the funny replies:
My setup, although been months since I last used it, is basically completely scripting challenge modes. It covers every piece of movement in all instances by means of keymaps. Some rooms/bosses even have multiple keymaps. Every spell cast is tuned through macro's. I have a big ass weakauras setup that displays a warning when to change to which keymap, including key combo to activate it. I use a logitech G510 where every G key does something unique in this process. I have multiple naga profiles with each 8 keymaps that I switch to as well. It's not just something I made overnight, but it's a massive amount of time that gets into finetuning this. I did not keep track of how many hours exactly, but 300 hours+ won't be far from the truth. And then again, I use my own logic quite often, so it could be (actually sure is) a total clusterfuck for other people and way to much a pain in the ass to figure it out. I made it for my own enjoyment, because it was fun figuring that out (just like I've programmed a good amount of sometimes useless programs for my own use that will never leave my computer, but the making of it is what I enjoyed).
Seeing how other people making a killing with questing guides (zygor), the easiest content to do. Seeing people make moneywith blogs that tell you how to make gold. Then there are all the shady business out there that make tons of money with well shady things. Hell there are a ton of boosting companies that charge people quite some money for getting 9/9 gold in challenge modes. not to mention arena boosts. Illegal I know, but they advertise on the prime twitch channels, and recently blizzard was actually doing giveaways on those channels who had a boosting banner up. Point being, there are people making money of stupid/trivial stuff that doesn't violate the ToS, and there are people making money of stuff that violates the ToS. When offered the opportunity, I asked first, in public. Taking all other stuff into account I will at least consider it.
There is in my opinion a difference between sharing knowledge, and the actual implementation. Sharing knowledge are imo the tactics, rotations, macro's ... the actual implementation in my case is an endless amount of keymaps tailor made for my setup/computer/team. It's like sharing the knowledge/ins and outs/dos and donts on how to build a house and the implementation of that knowledge, i.e. building process of the actual house, that is time consuming.
I would have answered, but nothing appeared in my Paypal account.
I spent time reading that post - expect my invoice forthwith!

What's amusing is that someone willing to pay for such a thing -- Especially if it's as intricate as you say it is -- probably won't even know how to use it because, as you said, it's custom-tailored for you.
So, does your price include walking them through every little single detail of your ISBoxer profile and helping them learn how to use ISBoxer like you have? Or would you only be selling the profile with no support?
I'm curious because I need to start up a site if there's a market for such a thing. ;)

No idea, need to think about that. Really it went like this: friend of a friend of a friend adds me on skype:
him: can you boost people through challenge modes while multiboxing, willing to compensate you for that, would need it 5x for all my toons
me: uhm nope, the bnet that contains those accounts has been inactive for a while
him: any chance to teach me how to multibox through that
me: thats quite complicated and takes lots of setup, i use isboxer, weakauras and profiles for my mouse and keyboard (keyboard that Ive only connected for the challenge modes btw)
him: i use isboxer as well, any chance i can copy your settings to do the challenge modes myself?
me: took me a shitload of hours, not feeling like giving that just away, the more because its made for my system
him: well i wont mind paying for that
me: lol ok will think about it
5min later i made the OP here, and thats all
SI'm curious because I need to start up a site if there's a market for such a thing. ;)
I sure think there is a market for that, Like I said, zygor sells tons of questing addons, that blows my mind. Hell, I even used to pay curse a couple of dollars each month so I can update all my addons at once. People pay for stupid shit all the time. The thing is, having to create such profiles for a profit is so time intensive you'd have to sell a shitload to make up for the time invested. I just happen to have created this for myself. But now just realized that I'd have to check back a bunch of macro's since 2 patchnotes have gone by that changed a bunch of spells and talents. So probably not even worth it.

Considering the time I put into it I wouldn't sell mine for $5000 .... The main pve macro is 89 steps long, 6 classes (meaning each step has like 6 submacros). No /castsequence so it wont break. I have 25 total macros to cover most all situations (the others are much shorter though).

Yep. Either I can spend all day trying to get other people set up to play, or I could play the game myself. Which do you think I'll choose?

I think this post/profile offer comes from the fact that it isn't all that easy to cut paste bring in shared pieces of each others profiles.
I personally would like to see it easier to import/export pieces of a profile into ISBoxer (if anyone uses weak auras or tradeskillmaster, thats what I mean), rather than having to open another profile and a second instance of toolkit to copy things across.

I searched for Zenga ISBOXERSETUPEZMODE on pirate bay, no dice :[
@Zenga. I think you are opening yourself up to a ton more questions if you are going to support someone. However, I think you could get $350 an hour support charge :]

I'd never bother, the amount of grief would likely not be worth the (relatively speaking) pennies people are usually willing to pay for that kind of thing.
A few times per week I get whispered about what setup I use (bear in mind: I'm not doing anything particularly advanced or impressive), and I'm usually happy to shoot them a few pointers, then tell them to go read up on it. If they're not willing to do that, or not able to understand it, they're probably not cut out for boxing. That's after filtering out those who can't / won't pay for the extra accounts, let alone the software used to facilitate multiboxing.
Boxing is, IMO, all about being able to do something the average player isn't, and giving (or selling) a working setup - even if it works at the moment you give it - doesn't change the fact that the knowledge required to update it and fix things when they inevitably break would be missing, so every patch you'd have them complaining.

As for selling it, I feel that if someone wants to buy something from you, go ahead and take advantage. He's paying for time and aggravation saved by not having to build and test and change and test and so on. Time has value.
As for worries about tech support and changes in the future, that's what disclaimers are for. I saved you X amount of time and you paid Y dollars for it with the understanding that if you want Z, you may have to do it yourself. Or if cutting and pasting is too difficult, I can teach you... for a price. :p

Well.. it is good to see it doesn't break the ToS.
I say go for it. Just be forewarned they will probably be 'up yer arse a fortnight' during this time. These configurations are bears and most just don't have the time for it.

I would think you could do what you wanted (within the ToS and other applicable issues)
I wouldn't look it as so mush of a setup I could use straight out of the box, but rather a way to better understand how some of the macros/settings/commands interact. More of , how can I do this or that
Sort of like the site Skill-capped.com it's a subscription based site with some insight on how some of the top players do what the do and it aid's in teaching others.
It still comes back to the basics: know your class and know your opponents. Combine that with playing multiple toons, makes it much more complicated.
But like many have mentioned here before, the support and follow-ups would be a nightmare.

I know, right? haha. 89 steps, mages go go arc explosion, and priests go go nova! Maybe he just doesn't want someone buying it and then laughing at the result.

I've had around a dozen people request I set up IS Boxer for them.
Basically wanted the Teamviewer desktop thing, where they'd watch what I do, but I'd be doing it.
I never got to the point where a dollar value was offered, nor asked for an amount.
Just had a inquiry every month or three, if I was willing to offer essentially support in setting things up.
Like Zenga, my setup is custom for me.
It isn't necessarily the best, and doesn't always use the newest features of IS Boxer.
Essentially, if something doesn't work for me... or I want to be able to do something different, I try to implement something.
Until I need to do something that my setup doesn't do, I generally don't upgrade the setup for the sake of using a newer feature.
I generally use each of my 18 G-Keys.
G13-G18 are consistent, across each of my character sets.
However, G1-G12 are pretty much different for each set; that would make things confusing for someone using my exact binds, etc.
I do have to caution about selling your services in any game.
In my experience, if you charge for something in a game that game ceases to be enjoyable, and becomes work.
My last year of playing Everquest I, I ran a power-leveling service...
Basically had a series of auctions going on Playerauctions, where I sold 'x' hours of my time in exchange for 'x' dollars.
They would run their own toon, and I would 'Boost' them with my team of Bard, Cleric, Druid; I had access to a friend's Enchanter for buffs too.
A lot of buffing & damage shields, almost killing something and zoning, with a healer to ensure they survived it hitting them a few times.
I also did character sales.
Basically leveled something to maximum level.
Then killed trash, or earlier stuff anyway, in zones a step or two below top raid content.
One of my roommates had a raid geared Warrior, another played a Shaman, I had the Cleric, Druid and Bard; plus whoever was there to loot everything and be sold.
We did a character each month, in addition to the power-leveling.
It supported me for close to a year.
But the game wasn't fun, and I moved to Warcraft shortly after its' release.
