I have read the various /click posts and I am sold on the idea that it is a DPS increase over /castsequence. At this point I find what I have for my /click on my Elemental Shaman, opens with Flame Shock, then Lava Burst, then Chain Lightning, finally Lightning Bolt, isnt ideal on trash.

I have run with the /click on my DPS key, and I feel like this is wrong. Note the word feel, I havent compared recount data on trash packs between my /click and /castsequence. I usually go three or four trash pulls and put my old rusty, trusty castsequence back and chain lightning my way to loots. Since I am prone to forgetting to move a boss macro to my DPS key or putting a trash macro back after the boss fight, two macros arent ideal.

Do you have two seperate DPS buttons, for trash vs. bosses? I suspect that I am missing something, and should I just suck it up? As I know my shaman are capable of more dps and go /click all around and euthanize the voice in my head that says, "You are doing it wrong." :D

back up a second and define *trash*

trash in a normal instance? trash in a heroic? trash in a ICC 5 man? trash in a raid? trash .....???

They are all very different things. ICC 5 man heroic trash has so much HP that is *does* make sense to do a full rotation - and its still trash.

When I played druids I had 2 buttons, one for bosses and one for everything else. It was not efficiant to try and put fairy fire, moonfire and insect swarm on trash like it was a boss. Playing shaman though I just have the one /click macro thats the classic flameshock, lava burst, chain lightning and lightning. It makes everything dead so fast.

When I wrote the post I had non Icecrown heroic trash packs in mind, I am not considering raids. After a bit of trash farming in Heroic Pit last night and your asking for clarification I see what you are getting at.

And I should clarify what my feeling is, I typically see the first target in those trash packs not live past the opening Lava Burst, so the second target gets chain lightning in the face. This suggests to me that I expect to put Flame Shock on every mob and I should roll with what comes next in the /click.

I am beginning to formulate what I need to do. But do you still run with a single DPS macro?

Here I was looking for an answer and got a question that helped me more. Heh :D

I personally don't worry about the click rotation and just use it for *almost* everything. I have thought a lot about added a second button for single target dps / trash / whatever, but my failed Boomkin experiements got me away from switching buttons around on the fly.

One DPS button for everything. :)

I use 3 buttons for DPS, 1 for 2 or less targets, 1 for AoE (Mainly for tank and lock) and 1 for single target DPS when mobs need to be blown the hell up but I can't afford residual AoE going off (Chain Lightening, Maul, Swipe)

The nice thing about "click".

You have four buttons your click is calling.
You can put whatever you want, wherever you want.

If you move your "fall through" Lightning Bolt, into the top position.
It will cast on every click...

Not sure there's a better order really.
But it is interchangeable.
