View Full Version : Threat issue? Since last hotfix?

Hi all,
so over the last day or so I have noticed that I am losing threat on some of the mobs which earlier in the week were not an issue. My first thought is that my warlocks are hitting a lot harder and my tank is not keeping up with them (Tank has not gotten any real gear upgrades over the last week).
Then I also read that the new heroics also are giving tanks issues in holding threat? I am wondering has anyone noticed a change?
I am feeling currently that the dungeons are just feeling that bit harder than before the hotfix the other day. Anyone else notice this or am I just imagining it?
Anyone got any suggestions for my pally tank on how to hold aggro better (I think locks are critting and so pulling mobs off the tank) Omen shows my tank normally way ahead of my dps in threat and then next thing a mob goes after my highest hitting dps.
Btw the dungeons I am normally in are Gundrak, UK and HoL (Gundrak was the most noticeable for losing aggro)
All insight welcome :)

i noticed a difference also, but only if i chain pull, if i open up with avengers sheild them i'm good but if i dont then the shammys pull one mob usually when lava burst hits (which is second after flame shock in my click sequence) and i just taunt him back.
All the rest of the mobs aren't a issue, just the first mob of the group i'm focusing on.

In general I have felt since that hotfix that runs are just "slighly" harder, but still not sure if I am imagining it :D , wondering that maybe blizzard wanted to slow the badge farming a little :P

I have not noticed anything different. But then again I am still doing non heroic NR instances cause my toons are not 80 yet. If you have a warrior have him put vigilance on the warlock. This ability transfers 10% of the threat from the target to the warrior. Doing this went a ways to keeping aggro on the warrior.
Also it pays to have an "aggro" reset button. This button is configured differently for each class and put in the same spot. When you hit it, all slave toons drop threat and the tank creates threat. This is one of the advantages of playing a mixed team. You get lots of 'oh shit' buttons.

yes, paladin's are broken.
I'll be tanking mobs, just chillin, and randomly ALL of them will drop aggro and go kill my healer (not the shaman nuking the shit out of them).
Something is _very_ broken

Yes, that is very true, I see my druid getting hit a lot more since the "hotfix" , really sucks :(
Now that you mention it, it does seem harder for my Druid to maintain threat. I'm hitting maul everytime I can lately to just keep a head of my Lock or Shaman. I also tanked a bunch of random heroics yesterday with 4 other guildee's including a Ret pally who just got the 2H from Saurfang. It was almost impossible from keeping him from getting threat. He even agreed to change from SoCom to something else to prevent the cleaves it creates and it was still tough.
I'm wondering tho, if by changing the dodge mechanic in ICC, they had to change threat modifiers because of threat modifiers usually gained from dodging hits (especially in Druids). I'm wondering if that has affected the threat for the rest of the game?
Edit: My Druid doesn't have any issues with Tanking ICC however.....hmmm.

Last night, I hit the trash at the entrance of Telestra's chamber with Avenger's Shield and aggroed her, resulting in a wipe. That was very weird. Thanks for the thread, I thought it was just me.
Also had problems in heroic ToC where the gnome mage champ started in the middle of the three, but was immune to Avenger's Shield because he was in that annoying dead zone against the gate. I thought they'd fixed that, but at the very least, no champ has ever started *inside the fucker. So anyway, I was running toward the champs when my shield failed and ended up body pulling with no aggro.

Last night I had to skip the first boss in UK, he just kept spawning a ton of tombs, at one point 3 of my toons were in Ice Tombs :(

i had some problems with ele shamans pulling aggro from tanks too in the last days .. but im pretty sure the problem is 4pt9 + em (haste) change => massive rise in aggro gain @ beginn of fight vs tankgear => all stam => same tps as before 3.3 => shamans win in aggro and die ;D i switched some gear / sockets from pure stam to exp/hit/(shieldblock) @ bear(agi greatness trinket > pity stam trinket) and prot pala tanks .. helped alot .
what REALLY sucks is the move the tank while tanking something and all your tanked mobs run around like headless chickens for some secs(and 50% end up behind your tank wich leads to move the tank again) bug .. wich leads to less aggro @ beginn of fight while u try to get this psychos in front of you.
some bosses do funny things for sure (like mrs boss2 in toc hc not healing her add anymore .. but onehitting 22k hp toons (yeah some 30k smites arent funny)) but i think there is no aggro "change" besides the chicken thing.

I've felt like agro range has gone through the roof. More than I few times I moved to set up in a location that seemed well out of my normal agro range, only to have stationary mobs start screaming "That's far enough!!!" I also feel like I'm bleeding mana on my tank lately. But it's probably just me and I'll get used to it.
Actually, maybe it's not me, maybe it's that bug :

There is a known bug that was introduced in 3.3 that can cause tanked mobs to move around in unpredictable and frustrating ways. A fix is incoming.
Seems there's no fix in yet? Or there is and it sucks? *shrug*

"Server restart in 10 minutes". Lets hope it's a fix for this issue. Read through that tread khatovar mentioned and i feel much better now hahaha. Just dingend 80 and tried my first instances and took several wipes because i lost agro and mobs ran all over the place. I went to ramparts today to get my 60 alts some gear, and even lost aggro there.

I kept a close eye on Omen last night when I was farming some badges and 90% of the time my tank was 50% ahead in aggro over my dps but I was still losing mobs who would run at my toons, very frustrating. Luckily my druid healer can take a few hits and so it did not cause a wipe.

Agreed. My pally tank was losing aggro at random points while doing HCOS last night to zombie mobs... they usually just die on contact with my consecrate. It really looks strange to see a ton of those Target change or whatever that alert is when aggro switches targets and one of my rets is now taking heavy damage..

That's really odd. I am not experiencing any threat issues. I wonder if its because my dps/healer toons are in quest greens and blues while my tank has purple gear... Omen tells me my tank has all aggro... hmmm...

I saw some odd agro srtuff last night in HPoS, then the world server crapped out, and magically the instance mobs starting behaving normally. I guess the mobs get easily pissed off when there are too many people playing the game? Which is odd becuase server lag never seemed to influence odd instance mob interaction (except lag spikes in ToC) but it seems more widespread with the cross realm dungeons, oh wait did I just suggest that Blizzard introduced something that was not load tested propoerly before going into production? Nah that never happens... I will say that if your lucky enough to have a world server crash on you while your in an instance its a great thing with the insta-port LFD tool!

No real problem to keep aggro with my pally, but we've got another problem since 3.3:
The jousting in HToC is next to impossible. We tried it 3 times and got wasted rather fast. Trash is as normal but the 3 nameds keep charging our toons left and right, we can't swap mounts as fast as they keep damaging us. Well, my main team doesn't need any more HToC drops, but a once fast and easy heroic is now a 15 dungeon deserter debuff cause it's just not worth the trouble...

Ah yes, I had that happen to me on one of my random heroic rolls. I chalked it up to playing ToC in the evening which was always a no-no prior to the 3.3 patch due to lag spikes. Now that you mention it the agro did seem to swap very quickly, and I lost inidividual toon mounts faster than 3.2 play. Now that my main team is done with badges except the daily 2 frost, I would skip HToC, it's not worth the potential repair bill and wasted time associated with a crappy game mechanic that I have seen more than enough of.

Okay, good, it's not just me.
Last week I did'nt have a lot of time to play, but I bought a serious upgrade for my Pally, the razorplate, and went back to farming BC dungeons for drops and DEs - and aggro was all over the place. Luckily it's trivial in BC content to deal with, but it was *very* odd for bosses to jump off the pally and run to my lowest DPS.
Then, I went to farm Moorabi like I have been for a long time - I can watch TV doing it, and not only did I lose aggro on him, and that has NEVER happened, my team was getting hit for tons - before 3.3 I could do Moorabi and finish at 100% health on everyone, this time, I was below 50% on everyone.
I finally got my first pieces of badge gear, everyone got their belts, except the priest, who got gloves. Woo!
But if the mechanics have changed, this is gonna suck, I was struggling to finish a heroic, this will make it harder. I may have to pug my characters to get badges, which is not really something I'm interested in.
Gonna run Gundrak tonight, see what's up. If it's back to normal, cool, if not...I think that's it for me, for now.

I noticed some change but I figured it was the 200 conquest badges I spent on my dps the night before the patch, lol.
