View Full Version : My fresh 10box raiding

A couple days ago I finished my 10 box group so I hit up my 1st two raids. The first night I cleared spider quarter in naxx.
My 5 guys that came from my 5 box pve team are in mostly 200 blues and epics. The fresh 80 shamans are in mostly lower 70s quest greens. They each have the 80 pvp necklace though. Afterwards I remembered they had a ton of honor so I hooked them up with the pvp cloak and gloves. So the raid as a whole is very undergeared.
I wiped on Anub'Rekhan about 6 times before figuring it out. The hardest part is that the adds join the fight at the same time as the boss does lucust swarm. Since the locus swarm silences the tank, the adds can't be taunted. If you have decent dps I suggest you just focus fire Anub. I got him to about 35% doing this with my dps'ers only doing 1200 or so average. I died from about 30 stackes of the adds' poison bolts eventually. I'm thinking if you can do 2k or so average dps on 6 guys you should be able to down him that way. I ended up just killing the adds then dpsing the boss.
I killed Grand Widow Faerlina on the first attempt. My strategy was to just aoe down the worshippers then heal through the bosses enrages. It worked just fine. The only problem I had was running around out of range so the worshippers would chase me and get in aoe range. Next time I will just line up(spread out so everyone doesn't take rain of fire damage) and run them all forward at the start.
Maexxna also went down in 1 shot. What I did when someone was wrapped was target the wrap have everyone assist me then interact with target to run to it and melee it down. They only have 6k hp so even caster melee doesn't take long. Then I would have them run toward the boss and start dpsing again. This way they stayed in a group and aoe healing was easy. The little spiders were sort of a problem and killed a couple of the dps. The consecration never worked on them.
Tonight I did OS and downed Sarth after a couple wipes. I took me 12 minutes to kill him since halfway through my 2 best dps of 5 were killed leaving my 3 nub shamans in greens to do all the damage. Best strat I found for him it to dps sarth when your guys are in the front because the flame waves. Just keep gathering the fire eles with the OT until you have to move to the back then dps them down back there.
I was actually surprised with my successes since earlier today my 2nd 5 man group couldn't even get past Ionar in heroic HoL. They wiped about 10 times getting there too. I'm going to try plague quarter tomorrow and maybe some normal 5 ToC to try to gear up the new 80s some to make it easier on me.
edit: oh and they each have both of the 200 epic caster rings off headless horseman.

Congrats!
I cannot imagine 10-boxing a 10-man encounter.
But several have done it.
Amazing ! Congratulations !
/me Starts lurking towards 10 boxing again ...

Smooth, I'm in your same boat! My 2nd team hit 80 last week. This week I mixed my two teams and did some heroics and some ToC. It was very hard with my 2nd team in ToC :( I didn't have the guts to try Naxx yet, but I will this week. I need to farm some cash for repairs. I am down to about 400g on all 10 toons, lol. Wiping in ToC is expensive.
My setup has a 2nd pally tank (dual specc'ed holy) instead of druid (though I am going to level my DK to 80 to alternate tanking duty with) and a hunter instead of 3x elemental shaman (I have 2).

I'm also broke. Since I leveled mostly in AV I don't have any gold and half of my guys don't even have flying. Soon I'll want to level up all the professions and that takes a ton of gold. Maybe I'll find some dailies that don't require flying or just empty out my guild bank and sell it all.

If you levelled in AV, you must have a ton of untouched normal quests left. These make a lot of gold, and are less boring than daylies.
My next team in 5 x Mage. I'm currently running it through Tundra and Fjord, which should get me to level 73. Then I'll be off to AV. I like the gold making potential of so many untouched zones when I hit 80.

I cant bring myself to do the regular quests in zones I skipped. Collect 10 of this and that... fuck that. I'm looking at you Zuldrak!

I'd really just work on quests in Icecrown.
Specifically those that unlock the dailies.
The unlocking quests are very good gold per hour.
And not overly painful to do.
I'd assume your first team has flying mounts / cold flying.
Dailies with them for a day or two, will get you gold enough for 5x slow flyers + cold flying.
At which point you have two teams who can function in Icecrown.
Once the dailies are open on each, try to run 2x dailies for a week.
That should be just over 15k (I run 15 dailies per team, 1100g in an hour).
Enough gold to last a while, pay for repairs or a little AH gear.
The Titansteel weapons are a very nice starting piece which last quite a while.

Hell I skipped a lot of those quest, I got so many left to do there its not even funny, finally got my main exalted with Sons of Hodir. Lol when I got exalted I got the you are exalted with 5 places achievement ><just crazy I tell you. I am not exalted with any one else obviously but lots of revered with different places, that's what happens when your main is only a year old, my old main is 4.5 years old still a baby but he aint exalted with anyone either ><.
Nice to see another 10 man boxer kick some Naxx butt. Wish I could 10 box. But heck just get everyone slow flyers and since your main team already has epic's just throw them on some of there slow flyers and do the dailies with both groups.

Been thinking about 10 boxing for a while - is there enough doable 10 box content to make it worthwhile?

Congrats on pulling this off. I am close, but my gear is so-so and I don't want to waste time and money in the content when I can spend time doing heroics still for HUGE upgrades. But within a month I hope to have cleared the spider wing and Patchwerk and maybe Razuvious and Noth. I'm nervous about the rest of the content in there. Maybe with T9 stuff it could be brute forced.

Well I got normal 5 ToC on farm on my second group so I replaced a few greens with purples. I'm going to go try Noth tonight if I can figure out how to remove curses. My resto druid can do it but I'm hoping to find an easier method than making a macro for each character.

Hmm, I found this from one of Fur's posts
/targetraid
/cast Remove Curse Do you just spam this x 10 and it goes through the raid one at a time and casts remove curse if they have one? Will it skip someone if its on GCD and pass them up since it targets the next anyway?

Depending on what you use, Vuhdo can remove curses with a click... but this assumes you use Isboxer and repeater regions :)
Keep us updated, its a nice read.

I'm impressed. I have well over 10x 80s and I've never tried to 10x anything.
I guess I'm going to have to give it a try. my guys are already fairly decked out in epics.

You know its embarrassing that 10 people cant do it on there own but one 10 boxer can.

awesome job smooth - your persistence has paid off ... my brother is working on his 5 box team so we can do 10mans. Naxx will prob be one of the first ... How far can you go in 10mans with with two 5box teams? Is there any 10man content that isn't really possible? There's pretty good gear currently avail from badges, so unless the more recent 10man content is box-able, there's not much point to 10boxing from a gearing perspective ... any thoughts?

It's funny because I think I would have downed Patchwerk if I'd had a ranged DPS sub for my second tank. It's so much easier just tanking it with one person than spreading the damage between two, because it's hard for a boxer to have discretion in who's being healed, and you need to save mana on this fight. I know I'll get him down easily once both my priests have enough regen to handle Gheal spam the whole fight. I got him to 20% with the second tank dead the entire fight and one healer going OOM due to bad gear.

I think it's very possible that I could clear Naxx 10-man, so I'm sure Smooth could, too. The thing about 10-man Naxx (non-heroic) is that if you get all your guys into T9 gear from BOE and badges, you're way overpowering the instance, and we all know what happens when you're overgeared: fight mechanics stop mattering. You could possibly spread out and kill Thaddius without a damage buff, you could kill Grobbulus without bothering to move more than a couple times, you could so overwhelm Gothik adds that it wouldn't matter what pace you killed them, etc etc.

so once you're geared out with badges (i am not), what's the next logical 10 man to do? Ony 10? ToC 10? are they boxable with two 5-mans?
TheBigBB

Ulduar, Ony, and ToC, in that order, if you go purely by how hard they're supposed to be. I have no experience with any of these encounters.

Fight mechanics still matter no matter what level, you can still wipe in bwl :)
IF you can kill patchwerk, you can kill thad with spreading out, its been like that since beginning of wotlk, no need for buff in 10 man. Same with gothik, one side start existed since almost start of wotlk, aoe-ing 4h instead of spreading them etc.

You could pull the two that do move to the guy to the close right and aoe those three there. Just stick a healer in the back near the lady to self heal to avoid the raid wide aoe damage. I've never tried this way but have heard of it.
You only need to be within 55 yds of the 2 stationary bosses to avoid the raidwide aoe but their stackable marks only have a 45 yd range. You would still need pretty good dps to aoe the 3 down before getting too many debuff stacks since you'd be getting 1 from each of them.

I just downed Patchwerk. I only used 1 tank with 533 def so not even capped. It was probably easier than most heroic bosses. Most of my dps ran out of mana at around 40% hp so I had everyone just stand still for 30 seconds or so to get enough back to down him.
Next week I'll try 1 tank 1 healer and 8 dps. My healers were standing around alot even with the tank also taking the hateful strikes.
