View Full Version : /Follow for quick facing change (PvP)

yesterday during leveling my hunter+4*Dru team i came up to a thought i want to share with community.
Personally i dont do PvP (yet) but i've seen lots of MB PvP movies and one big issue I got from that movies was facing management of the team. Almost every person facing MB team try to mass fear/run through etc. to break facing ant therefore spoil casts "team turn" buttins dont help much as it is slow and unreliable in situation when group already spread in some way.
That leads me to the following:
I already have "follow button" for my group so when i need to turn my toons to, say, following mob, i just run my main back, so all the team turns and is ready to blast the mob.
I tried to make a quick macro to quick face to the mob (i called it "facing target" button)...
/assist focus
/follow target
but ups... /follow works only for players and not for NPC/mobs
So i was unhappy but then i thught that if such funcion is not working for PvE it may be working for PvP...
But it was late already and i was sleepy and i didnt tested it.
If "/follow target" works when target is enemy player it will do the following
1) Face the target
2) start run toward the target if it is far enough
As for the 2nd part i dont know if there are any "/stopfollow" or "/stopmove" or something like that command of there is - i'd love to know (i've searched WIKI but no luck)
Imagine the situation:
some lock mass feared your tram and some toons start running in random direction you popped trinked and all now free from fear but still facing in a random direction. You hit the "facing terget" button followed by quick press any "party movement key" (to break follow and stop running) so all toons now faces lock an he is on his short way to corpserun.
It may be helpful for many situations IF ONLY /follow works for enemy players and not only for firendly.
Can anyone make some field tests? I will be unable to perform them myself untill next monday due to business trip...
PS: BM hunter is SOOOOO OP they have build-in I.W.I.N. button

Bind a key to "Interact with Unit" - I replaced my "Attack" with "Interact".
Turn on "Click to Move".
Assist and mash that key - you turn, face and move towards target to engage in melee combat.
Another option is to pick up a boatload of the Shadow Crystal Focusing Lens ('http://www.wowhead.com/?item=42420') and integrate t hat with a /target /use macro. These will face you to the target at the expense of the time to use it. No running involved.

1st question will it work for mobs as well as with players?
2nd question
ummm... It appears i dont understand how to implement it...
So after 3.1 i have a key to interact with target. already doing it
assume all toons have player/mob as a target and I hit an interact key...
What will happen? Will toons turn? What is "click to move"?
Please clarify it or give a link where i can read about it in detail.

go into interface options, browse around there(i forget what tab it is) and you'll find click to move there, basically whenever you select, or interact with anything with click to move on your toon will run that direction to interact :D

Lol well paid off to read this thread. Hats off to Zanthor.
If click to move is not activated, will characters just face the target on /interact but not run to it ?
I'm actually afraid to do stupid things with click-to-move activated on every character. Or perhaps it is possible to activate click-to-move in a macro and then turn it off immediately ?
(I cannot wait to be back home to try all that. Having all my alts automatically facing whatever my main targets would be priceless both in PVP and PVE)

omg, was this spelled out in another thread because this completely changes the dynamics of melee MBing. It's cake now! And I am going to EAT IT TOO!!!!
(Back home ;) )
/interact won't let your character turn around to face the enemy without "Click to move" checked.
However, this is doable in a macro :
/console autointeract 1
and
/console autointeract 0
will toggle "Click to move" on and off.

wow i did not know this. I'll update my macros to turn off click to move on my main screen, turn on slaves, and use that to auto-follow mob.
/follow focus
/target focustarget
(interact hotkey broadcast by HKN/Keyclone/etc)
/cast Sinister Strike
So something like this will try to follow me first (if no focustarget), face the focustarget (if there is one), run towards the focustarget, then cast SS?
What's the range on it? I'd hate to target something in the distance on my main, click my 'follow' hotkey, and send my guys running halfway across the zone lol.

I have '/jamba-follow strobeonme all' in my macroes that switch focus to each toon when i need to switch using PiP on Keyclone and one separate macro with '/jamba-follow strobeoff all' to turn it off when i need to. this keeps my team in close to me at all times and i never have any fall off /follow unless my main is moving way too fast for them to keep up or cause of lag issues. using this method, you won't have to worry about your team running off away from you after anyone else unless you turn strobing off. in my Jamba settings, the default is set to strobe /follow every 1 second, so yours should be the say way. the '/interact with target' is a key binding found in the 'KeyBinding' settings. Just go in and set it to what every you want. mine is now the Tab key on all but my main. My slaves loot and auto attack, both melee and ranged for hunters, and attempt to move closer to them, but the '/jamba-follow strobeonme all' keeps them within 3-5 yards of my main. as far as those crystals go, my happy ass is goin to farm the hell out of those things. I'm gonna have ALOT of fun in BGs on my hunters with those things. 3 BM Hunters + 1 Holy Priest (for now) all lvl 23 right now, is none stop carnage.
edit: i just checked the AH on my server and found and bought 100 of them Shadow Crystals real cheap. so far i only got a JC to make me 20 of them. Saving the rest for all my toons I have. my hunters will get the majority of them tho :D

Still unable to try it ingame but wonder of i got it all right.
Sj if i want all my toons to face a target and i dont want them to actually run any time i use /interact option i can use the following
turning sequence:
1) press interact macro
/assist target
/console autointeract 1
2) press interact button (not macroable AFAIK) :(
------> toons faces and start running to the target
3) press any movement key briefly to make them stop (And a "/console autointeract 0" also)
------> toons faces target and are ready to blast it into particles
Or maybe the 3rd step can be implemented by a macro? Something like
/console autointeract 0
/*stopmove* (don't know if it is possible to make characters stop with macro but it will simplify things if it is possible)
I didn't try the /console autointeract 1 directly into my /assist target macro. I use it pretty much like Mikey describes it. I have the line in my switch PiP/master macros so that the main has autointeract off, and the slaves on. This way I avoid doing stupid things or unwanted moves on the main.
For the rest, it's as you said : assist on one key, interact on another, the slaves turn and start running, I stop them by pressing my "phasing is annoying" key (in fact control+Forward, it is sent to all clients for instance portals and such).
This single little thing made me want to play my 5xDk team a bit more. :)

I'm thinking about lumping a bunch of these functions together... I might do this (I use HKN):
The Keys "X", "Y" and "Z" are placeholders. I actually use Ctrl + F, Shift + F, etc.
"Main Swap" Pip Function (Hotkey Ctrl+Subtract key):
Rotate screens (rename main to WoW1, rename slaves to WoW 2-5/resize)
Initiate "Set Master" / "Follow Master" command:
Press Key "X" to Main - Initiates Macro
Jamba setmaster me command (Macro)
Jamba auto-follow strobeonme command (Macro)
Turn off "Click to Move" (Macro)
/clear Focus (Macro)
HKN Rule: Key "X" to Main window initiates Key "Y" to Slave windows
Send Key "Y" to Slaves - Initiates Macro
/focus party1 (Macro)
Turn on "Click to Move" (Macro)
/target focustarget (Macro)
/follow focus (Macro)
HKN Toggle Rule: The second Key "X" to Main window initiates Key "Z" to Slave windows
Send Key "Z" to Slaves
Z is bound to Interact
Sounds like it might work. Anytime I have to open a quest, or need to have melee characters run toward target, All I do is hit key "X" twice. :)
Now to see if there is a toggle reset command that can be initiated on timer (like reset toggle after 2 seconds or something) in HKN...

Wow, talk about making melee multiboxing a lot easier. Great find Zanthor. *Runs off to make 5 deathknights.*

Is anyone else having problems with spamming interact on enemy targets?
I seem to be running into a problem where if I spam it before they're in range, the pathing goes crazy and they run kind of weird. If they 'stop' however and are within range, then they settle down...
I'm loving this though... I can play my healer or a range class and send melee guys in like they are pets lol.

Yeah, they do go nuts sometimes, or run right by. I sometimes feel like a commander and I have a troop of idiots running around and I gotta yell at them to get back over here. I was just in Maraudon and two of my guys ran right into the green ooze pit. They are like Banzai pilots.
I will say, for anyone who isn't running a melee team, get a team of 45 meleers and make them all different races so that heir animations are different. Set them all to attack with one button and watch as weapons fly all over the place like an 8 or 10 armed whirling dervish of destruction.

I can play my healer or a range class and send melee guys in like they are pets lol.
And no need to feed them.
Thinking about this more, might make for a very good setup sicne having one ranged will allow you to see the field even better. You can probably use them like pets where you can send one to cut off an enemy coming at you.
I was thinking about this too.
I play my 4 hunters + Druid group from the druid, and I find it very convenient this way. Extremely handy to be able to use mouseover heals, for instance. So I was thinking of changing my setup on other groups so that the tank (usual master) would become one of the slaves under command of the healer.
All it would take is two "interact" buttons, one for everyone, and one only for the tank.
