Hey all,

I usually don't venture out of the MMORPG General forum much any more since my focus is on Anarchy Online. My ability and comfort with multiboxing this game has increased greatly and I have a good routine running 4 characters. The plan is to expand in time but...

...here is the reason for posting here:

The current /follow mechanism requires the target to be manually selected every time you zone and there is no /target to boot. I'm fine that there isn't a /target but the /follow really needs to change. I've weathered the trolls when posting this suggestion in the official forums and have also sent the suggested change directly via email. My concern is that there isn't a loud enough voice to get them to really consider this change.

I need your help in petitioning Funcom to get them to change the /follow mechanism to allow a named parameter like it is in WoW and many other MMORPG's.

From /follow to /follow <name>

You may be saying "I don't play, or will ever consider playing, AO" and that's cool too but the game is trying to evolve into something better. This is the best time to get them game more multiboxing friendly when they are starting to make changes that people have been asking years for. Also they are working on the game engine upgrade to make it DX9c. Consider the linked image for some of the graphical changes. This isn't a final image, it's still in flux but it's a great example of the proposed before and after for the game avatars. The game has an incredible depth of character development and now with the engine change it will have the best of both worlds.

If you can spare a moment of your time to help with this please send an email to feedback@anarchy-online.com and in a few of your own words kindly ask them to change /follow to take a name of a character. Simple as that.


I hope you will consider helping a fellow boxer in making a path to help our kind of gamer.

They ignored every single bit of feedback we gave them throughout beta and released a total atrocity of a game despite the warnings that we all gave them. I doubt they will listen now but since I'm in a good mood, I sent them an email anyway.

I did remind them that they once promised to refund me my purchase price on the game as it was unplayable on release, but I never got said refund :)

I understand your concern but that was several game directors ago. Lots of changes taking place; it's a different ball game now.

WOOT! Anarchy Online, my first MMO and the reason I love MMOs ? =D

I did not played a single game over past 3 month, but I see what I can do.

i have not played ao in a bit but is there not a /assist for targeting could u not assist to yourself then hit a follow macro?
went to wow befor i putt a hole lot into ao boxing ;p

Two things about /assist in AO:

1) While there is an /assist as with WoW you can't use assist to
/follow since it hops targets (in WoW you could if the target has
targeted himself first, then assist wouldn't hop away). If I assist my
leader the target hops to what ever I am fighting.

2) /assist can only be used in a fight, meaning the assisted character has to have combat initiated (shooting or in melee) before he can even be assisted by the other group members. So if I am idle or even if I am being beaten-on by something but not fighting back /assist does nothing. If I am in a fight and my leader happens to target himself it still hops the fighting target not the nano(aka spell) target.


So you see, there is a large gap here that can only be filled by /follow being changed to take a name.

Bump for your support! Please, if you can, take a moment to email Funcom to help them see the need to change the /follow mechanics in AO, please :D

Please all, take a moment to send funcom a single email asking for this change. Who knows, you might find yourself playing AO one day!
