View Full Version : How important are racial characteristics for WotLK?

I play Alliance (yes, I know...sigh) so let's not let this get too far with things like "Warstomp", etc...

I plan to run my 5 shamans for instances and all-around PVP fun, but I'd like to create a team of 4 mages and a tank or a healer of some form.

Is human perception greater than a gnome's extra intellect?

Would I be better off running 4 mages and a priest or a resto shaman?

I see some people on the forums with the little graphics in their signature lines with 4 mages and a paladin. Is this the best way to go and if so, which races would be most synergistic? (thanks Vyndree)

I'm looking for ideas like;

4 gnome mages plus a dwarf pally from my experience works because <insert phrase here> or is a bad idea because...

or

4 human warlocks and a human pally work well together because <insert phrase here>

:)

If your rolling Alliance and a non-shaman group, Human seems really nice as they get the built in pvp trinket as a racial. Unless that was removed, not really sure if its still in or not

gnome's +5% int is better than 3% spi for certain on warlocks, not sure how it works on mages. That is if you are PvE minded, PvP the trinket slot freed up by the human racial is the best, and bullshit I would like to add. I thought they were going to make racials not so important, but then they introduce this. It basically frees up a trinket slot so you can stack more AP, SP or resilience or whatever you want.

actually considering how they changed Fel Armor to "increasing spell power by 180 plus additional spell power equal to 30% of your Spirit"
having spirit on a warlock is good now :P whether getting wee bit extra int or a wee bit extra spirit is better that'll take more number crunching then I'm willing to do :P

the thing about perception is its great if yeh got a thing for rogues and useless 95% of the time.
Unless they changed it recently it aint all that great for rogues either.

humans get a faction bonus I think its 10% or something, thats kinda nice if yeh wanna make faction grinding a wee bit faster.

I ended up making a group of draenic mages because they could throw out a healing spell every 3 mins :P

overall there not gonna make or break yer character its not like yeh can pick a wrong one :P

Perception got nerfed. It shouldn't have any effect on your decision.
Pvp trinket racial is good but you might want to get the actual pvp trinket anyway for the resil.
Spirit bonus is nice for classes that use it, as is sword/mace mastery although you don't care about those.
Reputation bonus is godly. Best non-combat racial.

Night elves are in. Shadowmeld usable in combat. It's a feign death that doesn't drop threat.
Gnomes have escape artist I guess...
Dwarves have stoneform.
Draenei have tremor totem >.>

For mages I'd either go with night elves or humans if you just care about racials. Night elves have survivability, humans have that free trinket slot.

Noob, night elves can't be mages. l2p.

Hai thar...not heard of will of the forsaken I take it?

PS: To the OP, Alliance ftw :)

Go humans, the trinket racial is win and perception can be useful to find rogues and druids. Plus you can have a DBZ haircut :P

I could be wrong, but what I was told was that the human racial triggers your trinket cooldown. WotF only breaks fear/charm last I checked. Unless they changed it and I can WotF out of stuns - I'm so decided on my lock team's race if that's the case. :D

I was just commenting on multibocks complaining about the new human racial, when the Forsaken have had one of the most OP racials of the game for ages. WotF doesn't trigger the trinket CD, so you can use both. But fear is one of the biggest CC's you want to break out of. Stuns not so much.

PS: Don't forget sleep.

PPS: If I were you, I would make your locks Undead. The racial can be used to break AoE fears which are far more annoying to boxers than stuns.

Using the human racial DOES trigger the cooldown on the pvp trinket. You can use the one or the other and have more freedom with your trinket slot, but you are not going to get out of jail twice as often. =]
