Ive just started 5 boxing with all same classes...
before this my teams were a result of adding more accounts and transfering in matching lvl chars...
4locks n priest
5 druids
4 priests n pally
etc...all good stuff
I know melee is hard work with 5 box but heres a few tricks if you have a main tanker etc
1st click on side mouse button..say #4...can be bound to moving backward
that allows for a pull into the melee party with everyone in range
2nd..set focus using number pad 1-5 for chars with the old macro covered in this board...

/clearfocus
/target (playername)
/focus (player name)
/follow (playername)
/assist (playername)

3rd have a focus reset button such as the ` with this macro

/follow focus
/assist focus

this can be used often as needed...and sets you free of prefocusing every spell in macro till you have a style and plan set out

4th
use opposing circles for pvp by setting various chars to run in diff directions...
I keybound q and w to either both do strafe left turn right or strafe right turn left so your party upon the puller backing up into them with the mouse button...runs circles around the target leaving at least 2 behind it but facing it at any time

5th
jus for fun a scramble can be nice....
after setting up your diamond formation on the a and d buttons..ie button a: palyer 1 forward player 2 left player 3 right player 4 back player 5 forward
and the reverse direction on the d button
you get a diamond with a forward player that can back up to the center...
when you hit refresh ` button on follow focus..they all face in on a melee'd target from all directions

you can also spread them out further and set up Numpad6 so that the forward follows the left who follows the back who follows the right who follows the other forward who follows the first one...

roughly speaking you get a random inward spiral movement that confuses the hell out of an opponent and allows you to select a new focus leader as needed...

the net distance for follow threshold is important to keep track of for this move because the backward moving c har wont have covered as much ground leaving the distance greater for the 2-3 and 3-4 follows

Well good stuff...
This team is set up for assasination tasks on a rp server so intstance is not a consideration...Ill save that for my other teams:)

have fun and let me know if you have anyother ideas for melee:)

I have said it before and will say it again. 5 Rogues, while in theory is great.

Is not.

At all.

Nice ideas about movement though.

Don't forget about shadowstep which in my opinion is the only thing that would make 5 rogue setup even remotely effective.

Dinged 10 last night starting the tree...thanks for the suggestion
Xzin..You have taken wow to a new lvl and I greatly respect your opinion
So big props and thanks to you for all your vangaurding of fun:)
And thanks for starting my favorite forum

Still.. I'm trying to eek out my unexplored corners a wee bit while I have a main party thats more traditional...pally.magex3..priest

All this on a new server so they are all ground up and leveling bluebar style

5druids could do all this effortlessly ofcourse but the undead aspect has got me for now..so rogues it is

I found the follow focus combo threw the 2nds in my party in the wrong direction half the time so here's a few more fixes I've found

combining the back button on the mouse for the leader with using "s" for forward on all the group nails the leader to the ground and brings up the rest of the party to leader for melee range with their directionality intact....
otherwise with follow..they would turn backwards or sideways if the main got too buried in the formation as they took position

also I had to add a simple /assist focus macro button to my Z button for times when the placement of the back team is perfect ..they have aggro and I can run the main forward and turn for back stabbing which gets aggro in turn freeing up the others for back stab x4

the S button is key before an attack to set the back pieces in place so they dont run around needlessly following the main basically like a hunter setting a death trap sometimes

I'll try a follow focus button seperatly too to avoid breaking stealth upon targeting and approaching..... prolly on the x button.

Well thanks all for taking an interest and plz holla anymore suggestions...Im all ears n fingers

Kudos to you for trying to push the envelope of 5-bxoing.

A few issues I can see coming up though -

1. No healing / rezzing / debuff removal - this pretty much turns any encounter into a race of dps against damage taken. Any deaths will add to downtime since you have no rezzers / wipe prevention.

2. Sap is only a situational CC - can only be used on humanoids who are out of combat, plus requires positioning and can't be reapplied

3. Prime target for AOE damage. Since you're bunched up all the time, you become a prime target for any Acrane Explosion, Blizzard, Frost Nova, etc. AOE fears will own you unless your very fast on the WoTF / Trinket key

4. Almost all your DPS & stuns can only be done in melee range, plus require positioning - either facing or behind the target. For single target enounters not really a problem, but multi-mob combat or mobs with ranged attack are going to have an advantage.

That being said, it will be interesting to see how go. You've said your not instancing, so it will be some outdoor PVE and PVP I guess?

Cheers,

Don't forget about shadowstep which in my opinion is the only thing that would make 5 rogue setup even remotely effective.

Maybe with the new changes it's different, but in 5v5 5 sub rogues would pretty much decimate 2 members of the opposing team, then lose horribly. They just have nothing going for them after the initial attack.
