View Full Version : Swapping out a Shaman for a boomkin and other thoughts

My Boomkin finally hit L70, and I've considered running him in place of one of my shamans for a Healer+Boomkin+3xShaman team. He's horrifically undergearred at the moment, but I think it might be fun to try. My most recent Healer buddy has been a druid, so if we ran with a second druid in place of a shaman, we could potentially have two cyclones. Other perks are would be having a ranged root available to start the matches off (we have used this to good effect currently, but it requires my healer buddy to come out of stealth), +5% crit while in form, and a second innervate.

Any thoughts from a theorycraft perspective? Would miss another set of totems, but 2 cycloned enemies at the beginning of a match might be nice!!

Additionally, I have been running the druid in 3v3 matchups where I use Boomkin+2xShamans. Able to sustain about a 1550 rating with this setup, my healer partner and I have tried running some Druid Healer + 2xShaman 3s teams with some early success between 1500-1600. My partner basically ties up one of their team with cyclone and stuns/warstomp while I burn down one of the other. Alternatively, they go after him first and I just nuke away until someone goes down. Obviously not as much burst as in 5s, but the druid can be offensive to great effect with his powers and we are very hard to kill, even if they all focus fire.

Anyhow, anyone tried swapping in an odd druid into their 5v5 team? Also, any great luck with 3s using 2+Healer?

I know this is the pvp section, but - As it seems the boomkin will in wotlk get some nice boost abilities for nature damage spells.

Other than that - You have to consider, that the first cyclone lasts for 6 seconds. The second for about 3 seconds. Imagine, that they would use theyr badge immediately - you 1. have to re-cycle that guy and 2. it won't last that long anymore.

Also, any great luck with 3s using 2+Healer?I actually made it to 1700 with an spriest and 2 shammies and just got to 1675 with a resto druid. I've been looking for a boomkin/restokin to play with in 3s but haven't found one on my server yet.

Hi Boylston
well, i think that, when running a 3dps 2 healers, u somehow gotta have some heal reduction effects...a warrior, hunter or rogue can do it. If u dont have i really dunno how much u can nuke, and if it will be enough to put one guy down.
running 3 shaman, 1 druid boomkin and 1 resto...well, imo the druid is a top class in arenas when u play it solo. u gotta shapeshift, run around, make charges, cyclone, apply hots, apply dots..what im trying to say is: will u be able to control ur shamans along with a druid, making quick casts and reacting to the opponent as well as if u were playing the druid alone ? I really dont know how effective it could get, need to be able to nuke and cc all at the same time, the same person...

A boomkin can be a great addition to ur team, running 3shaman+1boomkin boxed, but, is it worth it? +5%crit...and a bunch of tools that i dont know how good a guy can use them in arena while boxing... i guess its up to u to make some tests.

I can only say that, 3 shamans and 2 resto can cause arenas to last forever :P
