Default Quad Core 4 Boxing Affinity Settings

Ok, so I took the plunge today and upgraded to a quad core machine and i'm playing around with processor affinity settings. I'd like to get some up to date feedback on what people have tried. I see mostly settings for 5 boxing. Right now i'm trying out:

    Main: Core 1 & 3 (processAffinityMask of 5)

    Alt 1: Core 2 (processAffinityMask of 2)

    Alt 2: Core 3 (processAffinityMask of 4)

    Alt 3: Core 4 (processAffinityMask of 8 )

Another note: I'm running the 4 on a 1680x1050 monitor with Main 1 at 1200x1018 resolution and all the alts at 480x339 resolution if that gives some better info.

same here, I gave up trying to understand how the core affinity works so I went with core 1 must be for everything (iTunes etc), 2 for my main and then the rest for my clones.. (over simplified but meh :P )

    in case you are wondering
I reinstalled after getting my quad core (needed so that wow itself finds it, but meh)
then i put up the symbolic linking of my folders
and i put the following setting in the config.wtf of each client:

    Main:
    SET processAffinityMask "2"

    slave 1&2
    SET processAffinityMask "4"

    slave 3&4
    SET processAffinityMask "8"

if you check your affinity in the task manager your wow clients should be running
main: cpu 1 (your second cpu since cpu0 = first cpu)
slave 1&2: cpu 2 ( your third cpu .. bla bla)
slave 3&4: cpu 3 ( your fouth cpu .. bla bla)

hope this simplifies the cpu affinity a bit

    aye, same setup for me:

    main running on second core

slaves 1-2 running on third core

slaves 3-4 running on fourth core

leaving the first core free to work for Vista and iTunes, Outlook, browsers and/or a movie. (yes, you can grind quests and watch Simpsons at the same time, makes it less tedious)

I launch it all through Keyclone though, as it also has cpu affinity options for the Maximizer part - and I like that I launch keyclone, and pressing "connect" launches 5 clients, all setup and ready to go

probs to ze author once again

I understand how all the affinity settings work. Was more looking for 4 boxing config settings people were using.

The settings I listed above are actually working very well. No lag whatsoever in shattrath. I'm going to goof with it some more and try some of the settings you guys list. I'm almost convinced with 4 that its not that big of a deal since these quad cores can pull some serious weight. I do like the idea of leaving core 1 available for the OS.

Reserve your first core (core#0) for OS, Winamp, Firefox, pR0n, etc
