    Default Yet another power leveling question....

    The XP you receive depends on if that someone else will receive xp for killing that mob. If yes, you get full XP. If not, you get a tiny fraction.
    Does this mean that you should never ever ever use a lvl 70 to help out with mob-tagging, since a lvl 70 does not (at present) ever get xp?

    Are you talking about a Grouped 70? In an Instance?

    I'm talking about ungrouped mob tagging. Toon-to-be-leveled tags the mob, and leveling-toon finishes off the mob.

    Sorry I wasn't more clear about that.

    Im not sure how that works exactly but it sounds pretty slow. One thing I used to do with a druid was heal my non grouped character and get agro from all the mobs and use my character to kill them off one by one. Of course this only works to a certain level before your druid starts to get killed.

    well when one of my toons fell behind to far i would put them out of group and have them tag a mob then the other 4 group members kill it. He would receive 100% exp. But trying this with the 70 having the lowbie tag first then the 70 killing in one shot would give like 10% exp. Now if you lowbie does like 25% + exp your exp will go up. But all in all its not worth it unless you are aoeing.

    a level 70 killing stuff for you, grouped or ungrouped, will yield very little xp to you. They have tweaked the formulas on and off the last few patches, so I'd just go try it out yourself to see instead of depending on websites that may be inaccurate. The only reason to use a 70 to kill stuff is to do quests faster, which is the big XP payoff.

    a 70 can heal you however if you do all the damage to the mob, and if the 70 is not grouped with you you will still get full xp. if the 70 groups with you, or does some damage to the mob, you will get very diminished xp.

    • regular mob grind, you should use all characters around same level, can't pull too much. a 70 can follow you around and heal you
    • instance grind, you can use a 70 and even though the xp gets nerfed you are depending on killing stuff fast enough, fast respawns (instance reset), plus the extra xp of elites.
    • quest grind, the 70 helps your lowbies get quests done by zapping mobs that drop quest items or are quest goals.

    Yeah, this is what I've been doing while when I experimented with mob-tagging. The kill-xp is pretty much exactly like oatboat described it, (the more dmg my lobie did, the more xp he would get.)

    I was trying to use mob-tagging in conjunction with quest boosting, but wasn't getting the pay-off from mob tagging that I had hoped for.

    I also agree that real-life testing (as opposed to theory-crafting based on web sites) is they way to go. (I just happened across this today and haven't had time to test for myself, but I was curious about what the folks here on these forums would think.)

    Out of curiosity, what lvl was your lobie at the time. What I'm really wondering is, would say, a lvl 65 still get full xp, if a lvl 70 helped out taking down a tagged lvl 68 mob. Unfortunately, i don't have the toon combo to experiment with that. Sadly, the toon I'm trying to lvl is at a point (lvl 53) where I don't have anything other than 70s with which to boost him.

    the lowbies were 20'ish and the main was 70 - exp was like 8exp a kill. But if you are killing with a 70 for a lvl 65 then the 65 should get full exp comparative to what the 70 would receive for that mob. Granted that the mob has to be atleast green to the 70.

    The "tagging" rule is, if the mob in "green" meaning it can give exp to the higher level, then full exp is given to the lowbie who tagged the mob.

    A level 63 mob is green to a level 70. This level 63 mob is orange to a level 60, so it will takes some decent +hit gear to consistently hit them to get "tagged" But at level 61 or 62, you can mostly tag the mob at first hit/cast.

    A good spot for this is NorthWest in Zangarmarsh. the Greate Spore (flying thingy) is non-agro and plenty around. I used to have my 61 priest dot those, and have my ungrouped 70 "ret" pally finish em. The result is the priest gets full exp as if he "solo" the 63 mob. So it's a good grind. However, in my experience, questing still yields better exp/time. The time it takes to kill 30 of those mobs for a "bubble" of exp, I could have gotten as much doing a quest in less time. The only reason I grinded was that I needed to be 62 to obtain more quests in Zangarmash at the time.

    But yeah, questing such as kill quest after level 63 was fast because I was tagging mobs with my lowbie while a high dps 70 was ungrouped and on follow--and sometimes it was faster to just group and AoE the area of interest.
